Lady Blue Knights Softball: Coaches
CoachesHead Coach Nick Short
Coach Short just completed his first year at the helm of the Lady Knights softball program. Under his direction the Knights posted a 12-game improvement over the previous season, ending 2009 with a 22-25 record. The improved play resulted in a 4th place finish in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and a post-season run to finish 3rd in the Region XXIV Tournament.
Individually, the Knights had many players honored because the improved play. Sophomores Chelsey Sechrest and Lindsey Wedding were named 1st Team All-Region for their play in the outfield. Sophomores Amanda Hostettler, Jamie Lytle, and freshman Teddi Helsel were all named 2nd Team All-Region.
Wedding, Sechrest and Helsel were also named to the Region XXIV All-Tournament Team for their postseason play.
The Lady Knights were also successful in the classroom, where the team GPA was a 3.17. Many players garnered academic honors including sophomores Chelsey Sechrest and Lindsey Wedding, along with freshman Teddi Helsel, who all were named Academic All-Conference.
Along with his softball duties, Coach Short also teaches at Olney Central College. His teaching career began at Eastern Illinois University, where he completed his Master's degree. He then moved to Olney, where he teaches Anatomy and Physiology, General Biology I and Environmental Science.
