Summer Clinic Dates

The Lady Blue Knights will be holding two summer clinics in the month of July. Details of the clinics are below.  Both will be all-skills clinics including fielding, hitting, baserunning, and situational play.  Catchers are encouraged to bring their gear as well.

Knights Earn NJCAA All-Academic Honors

The Lady Blue Knights finished the spring 2011 season with a team GPA of 3.35, good enough to place them on the NJCAA All-Academic Team list.  This is the third year in a row that OCC has made the team.  Congratulations to all the players who worked hard on the field and in the classroom.

Reed Makes Louisville Slugger/NFCA 2nd Team

The Lady Knight's Braddi Reed (Charleston, IL) made the Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division I Midwest Region Second Team that was announced on May 26.  Braddi was voted on the team by member coaches.  She finished the year with the third lowest ERA in the nation at 0.71.  It is a very high honor and we are very proud of Braddi and her accomplishments. Knights Earn Academic Honors, Murphy Academic All-American

Eight Lady Blue Knights earned Academic All-GRAC honors for the 2011 season.  Those making the team had to have at least a 3.25 GPA for 3 semesters. The Lady Knights making the team are:

Also, sophomore Allison Murphy earned Academic All-American status for her success in the classroom.  In order to achieve All-American, one must have a minimum of a 3.6 GPA.  Special congratulations to Allison!

The Lady Blue Knights finished the year with a team GPA of 3.35.

Knights Earn Postseason Honors

Three Lady Blue Knights garnered post season honors due to their successful spring seasons.

Sophomore Braddi Reed earned NJCAA Region XXIV All Region Team recognition for her performance pitching during the spring season. Braddi posted a 13-5 record with a 0.72 ERA, which is 3rd in the nation. Braddi also made the GRAC All-Conference Team. Braddi posted a 2-year record of 31-16 for the Knights in the circle.

Freshman DanYelle Bigham also earned Region XXIV All Region Team accolades for her work in the outfield for the Knights. She hit .338 with 14 doubles, 4 triples and 39 RBI while playing a stellar centerfield. She also made the GRAC All-Conference Team.

Freshman Emily Phillips was the third Lady Knight to earn honors. She made the Region XXIV All Region Team.  Emily anchored the infield at the shortstop position where she hit .367 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 4 homeruns and 43 RBI.

Congratulations go to Braddi, DanYelle and Emily for their honors, as well to all the Lady Knights for their successful season.

Knights Season Comes to a Close

The Lady Knights season came to a close Saturday in Mattoon against Lake Land, the #1 seed in the region tournament. The Knights dropped the first game 9-8 and game two 14-9.

Lake Land scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning in game one to go up 6-0.  The Knights responded by scoring 8 runs, all with 2 outs, in the top of the 7th inning. However they were not able to hold the lead as Lake Land scored 3 runs to win, including a walk off homerun.

The Knights bounced back by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning in game two, but couldn't hold on as Lake Land scored 3 in the bottom of the first. The Knights didn't quit, however, and kept the game close, and even had the bases loaded in the 7th inning before a strikeout ended the game.

OCC would like to thank the sophomores for all they have contributed to the program the last two years.  Olney Central is a top tier team in the GRAC due to their efforts. Knights Sweep SIC

The Lady Knights won both games of a double header in the play-in to the Region 24 tournament over Southeastern Illinois College by the scores of 11-0 and 7-2.  The Knights will now travel to Mattoon tomorrow to face Lake Land in a noon double header.

Knights Sign Springs Valley Pitcher

The Lady Blue Knights have signed Emily Carnes from Springs Valley (IN) High School to a national letter of intent for the 2011-2012 year.  She is going to bolster a pitching staff that is losing three to graduation this year. Millikin Games Rescheduled

Tomorrow's contest against Millikin University has been tentatively rescheduled to Tuesday, April 26 at 3 PM because of the weather.

Knights Sweep Rend Lake

The Lady Knights took both games of a double header Sunday afternoon at OCC. The Knights won game one 4-3 and game two 9-0 in 5 innings.

Sam Tomasino (12-4) got the win in game one, pitching the last 2 2/3 in relief of Braddi Reed. Kourtney Crockett went 1-2 with a triple and 2 runs scored, Emily Phillips went 1-1 with a double and 2 RBI, and DanYelle Bigham went 1-2 with a triple, RBI and run scored.

Mackenzie Thomas (7-2) got the win in game two, going all 5 innings and striking out 7. Bigham went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, Sam Flesch went 2-3 with a double and homerun and 3 RBI, Alisha Ochs and Julia Camp each went 1-2 with a run scored.

The Lady Knights (32-12, 21-7) continue play Wednesday when they host Millikin University in a non-conference match-up. First pitch is set for 3 PM.

Knights Drop Two at Logan

The Lady Knights dropped both games of a double header at Logan Thursday afternoon. The Knights lost game one 4-3 in 8 innings and game two 6-2.

The Knights (30-12, 19-7) continue GRAC play Saturday when they host SWIC. First pitch is at noon.



Wednesday, April 13
Knights Take Two From Kaskaskia

The Knights took both games of a double header Wednesday from Kaskaskia in walk-off fashion. The Knights won game one 9-1 and game two 5-4.

Braddi Reed (12-3) got the win in game one, going all six innings. Kourtney Crockett singled in Allison Murphy after Ally led off the bottom of the sixth with a double. DanYelle Bigham went 2-3 with 3 RBI while Crockett went 2-3 with an RBI.

Game two saw a walk-off of a different nature as the Knights scored a run in the bottom of the 7th to take a 5-4 victory. Pinch hitter Rebecca Swaney got a lead-off hit and was sacrificed to second by Crockett. Krystal Welch then delivered the game winning hit up the middle to end the game. Sam Tomasino (11-4) got the win in relief of Mackenzie Thomas, who gave up just one earned run. Welch went 3-4 with a triple and 2 RBI, Sam Flesch went 2-3 with an RBI, and Crockett went 2-3 with a run scored.

 The Knights (30-10, 19-5) continue action tomorrow when they travel to John A. Logan in Carterville for a GRAC contest.

Knights Sweep SIC

The Knights won two conference games Tuesday in Harrisburg.  The Knights won game one 10-0 and game two 7-3.

Braddi Reed (11-3) got the win in game one. Sam Flesch went 3-4 with 5 RBI and Krystal Welch also went 3-4.

Sam Tomasino (10-4) got the win in game 2, going 5 innings. Mackenzie Thomas got the save. Rebecca Swaney went 3-4 and DanYelle Bigham went 3-4 with a double.

The Knights (28-10, 17-5) continue action Wednesday when they host Kaskaskia at 2 PM.

Knights Sweep Lincoln Trail

The Lady Knights got back on the winning ways by taking a conference double header at Robinson. The Knights won game one 8-0 in 5 innings and game two 6-0.

Braddi Reed (10-3) got the win in game one by throwing all 5 innings. DanYelle Bigham, Kourtney Crockett, Emily Phillips and Sam Flesch all had doubles in the game.

Mackenzie Thomas (6-2) got the win in game two, going 6 innings before Sam Tomasino pitched the 7th. Alisha Ochs had an RBI single, along with Emily Phillips and Sam Butt.

The Knights (26-10, 15-5) continue action when they host Kaskaskia on Saturday at noon.

Time Change for Lincoln Trail

First pitch for Thursday at Lincoln Trail has been moved up one hour and will start at 1 PM instead of 2 PM. The games will be held at the City Park.

The scheduled home game for Olney against Florissant Valley on Monday April 4 has been cancelled due to weather. No makeup has been announced as of yet.

Winning Streak Comes to an End

Playing their 5th double header in 5 days, the Lady Blue Knights dropped both games of a double header Saturday to Wabash Valley in Olney. The Knights lost game one 3-1 and game two 5-4.

Emily Phillips had a solo home run to account for Olney's scoring. Kourtney Crockett went 3-4 on the day. Braddi Reed (9-3) gave up 3 runs, 1 earned, in the loss.

WVC scored 4 runs in the first inning in game two, and added a single run in the 4th, which proved to be the winning run, as the Lady Knights rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th and had the tying run on 3rd base with two outs before the game ended. Mackenzie Thomas pitched 3 scoreless innings for the Knights.

The Lady Knights (24-10, 13-5) continue action Monday at home when they host Florissant Valley out of St. Louis. First pitch is set for 2 PM.

Knights Sweep SWIC

The Lady Knights beat SWIC in a GRAC contest Friday afternoon in Belleville. Olney won game one 5-3 in 8 innings and game two 10-4.

Sam Flesch had a 3-run homerun in the first game. Mackenzie Thomas (5-2) picked up the win.

Krystal Welch had a 3-run homerun in the second game. Samantha Tomasino (8-3) got the win.

The Lady Knights (24-8, 13-3) continue play with their 5th double header in 5 days on Saturday when they host Wabash Valley. First pitch is set for noon.



Thursday, March 31
Knights Sweep Conference-Leading Lake Land

The Lady Blue Knights swept visiting Lake Land in a GRAC double header Thursday afternoon. The Knights won game one 2-0 and game two 4-2.

Braddi Reed (9-2) threw 7 shutout innings in game one, giving up 5 hits, all singles. She struck out 2 and didn't allow a walk. Offensively, Kourtney Crockett led off the game with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Krystal Welch, and scored on DanYelle Bigham's double down the left field line. The Knights added an insurance run in the 5th when Lydia Stover was hit by pitch, sacrificed to second by Crockett, and scored on Welch's double to left field. Welch finished 2-3 with a double, and Bigham was 1-3 and a double.

In game two, the Knights scored first in the bottom of the 4th inning when Bigham reached base on a hit by pitch with 2 outs, then advanced to second on an error by the shortstop off the bat of Emily Phillips. Sam Flesch hit a ground ball to the shortstop again but Phillips beat her to second base and beat the force out, allowing Bigham to score. Lake Land came back and scored 2 in the top of the 5th. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Kourtney Crockett led off with a single and advanced to 2nd on Krystal Welch's sacrifice. DanYelle Bigham followed with an infield hit and runners were on 1st and 2nd. Emily Phillips then hit an RBI single up the middle to score Crockett. Bigham advanced to 3rd and Phillips to 2nd on the throw home. Sam Flesch then scored Bigham on a suicide squeeze. Sam Butt then hit a single to left to score Phillips and account for the final score.

Mackenzie Thomas threw 5 2/3 solid innings, giving up 2 runs. Sam Tomasino pitched the final 2 1/3 to record the win.

The Knights (22-8, 11-3) continue action on Friday when they travel to Belleville, IL to play SWIC.



Wednesday, March 30
Knights Take Two Against Millikin

The Lady Knights took both games of a double header in Decatur, IL against Millikin University. The Knights won game one 3-0 and game two 8-7.

 Braddi Reed (8-2) got the win in game one in throwing the shutout. Sam Flesch hit a two run homerun in the win.

Sam Tomasino (6-3) got the win in game two while Mackenzie Thomas got the save. Paige Bullerdick had a 3-run homerun in the win while Allison Murphy had 2 doubles.

The Knights (20-8, 9-3) continue GRAC play Thursday when they host conference leading Lake Land at 2 PM.



Tuesday, March 29
Knights Sweep Rend Lake

The Lady Knights bounced back from Sunday's losses at Lake Land to sweep GRAC opponent Rend Lake in Ina on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights won game one 8-0 and game two 5-2 in 8 innings.

Braddi Reed (7-2) picked up the win in game one and did not allow a run while scattering 3 hits. She struck out one and walked two. DanYelle Bigham went 3-3 at the plate with 2 doubles and a triple. Sam Butt collected 2 hits as well.

Game two saw a strong pitching perfomance by Mackenzie Thomas, allowing only 2 runs in the first and pitching 6 strong innings. Sam Tomasino pitched the final 2 innings. The Knights tied the game with 2 runs in the 3rd innings before scoring 3 in the 8th. Sam Flesch hit a 2 run double to break the tie, while Paige Bullerdick had an RBI groundout for the 3rd run of the inning. DanYelle Bigham went 2-4 with a double, Sam Butt went 3-4 and Emily Phillips went 2-4 in the game.

The Lady Knights (18-8, 9-3) continue play on Wednesday when they travel to Decatur, IL to play Millikin University. First pitch is set for 4 PM.



Sunday, March 27
Knights Drop Two to Lake Land

The Lady Blue Knights dropped a GRAC double header to conference leading Lake Land on Sunday afternoon by the scores of 4-1 and 9-1.  Too many errors and a lack of timely hitting led to the two losses. Only 3 of Lake Lands 13 runs were earned, while runners were stranded on 2nd and 3rd base for the Knights in the first 2 innings of the second game.

The Lady Knights (16-8, 7-3) continue GRAC play Tuesday when they head to Rend Lake. First pitch is set for 2 PM.

Lake Land DH Moved Up to Noon First Pitch

The game time at Mattoon on Sunday, March 27th has been moved up one hour to a 12 PM start time.

Knights Game Postponed at SWIC

The GRAC double header scheduled for tomorrow, March 26th at SWIC has been postponed due to the sudden Ice Age that has made its way to the midwest. It has been rescheduled for next Friday, April 1 starting at 2 PM. Lets hope mother nature has a better since of humor by then.

Knights Take Two Against Logan

The Lady Knights beat GRAC foe John A. Logan twice on a chilly Thursday. Solid pitching performances and timely hitting were the key. OCC won game one 3-1 and game two 6-4.

In game one, Braddi Reed (6-1) got the win going all 7 innings, giving up 1 run (unearned) on 4 hits. Alisha Ochs, Sam Butt, Julia Camp and Kourtney Crockett all recorded hits in the win.

Game two saw Mackenzie Thomas (4-2) get the win, going 5 innings and giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, by scattering 7 hits. Sam Tomasino recorded her 5th save of the year in pitching the final 2 innings. Kourtney Crockett and Julia Camp had doubles and Emily Phillips a triple in the win. Paige Bullerdick had a 2 RBI single as well.

OCC (16-6, 7-1) continue GRAC play Saturday when they travel to Belleville to play SWIC. First pitch is at noon.



Tuesday, March 22
Knights Take Double Header

The Lady Blue Knights completed a sweep of GRAC foe Southeastern Illinois Tuesday afternoon at the Jasper County Boys and Girls Park in Newton, IL.  OCC took game one 9-1 and game two 10-0.

Braddi Reed (5-1) got the win in game one, going all 6 innings and giving up the lone run (unearned) by scattering 8 hits. Kourtney Crockett and Emily Phillips each had two hits.

Sam Tomasino (5-2) go the win in game two, pitching all 5 innings and giving up 2 hits. Rebecca Swaney went 3-3 and Sam Flesch went 2-3.

The Knights (14-6, 5-1) continue play this Thursday when they host John A. Logan. First pitch is set for 2 PM.



Monday, March 21
Tuesday's Game Moved To Newton

Due to wet outfield conditions at OCC, the Knights GRAC double header with Southeastern Illinois College has been moved to the Jasper County Boys and Girls Park in Newton, IL. The address is 503 South Scott Ave in Newton. First pitch is set for 2 PM.

Monday, March 21
Knights Sweep Florissant Valley

The Knights travelled to St. Louis Monday and took a double header from Flo Valley by the scores of 9-1 and 7-4. 

Braddi Reed (4-1) threw 6 innings and struck out 7 while walking none and giving up 2 hits. Sam Tomasino pitched the 7th. Krystal Welch, DanYelle Bigham and Paige Bullerdick all collected 3 hits apiece while the Knights left 15 runners on base.

Mackenzie Thomas (3-2) got the win in game 2 going 5 innings and giving up 4 runs, 1 earned, on 5 hits. Sam Tomasino picked up her 3rd save of the year in pitching the 6th and 7th innings. Kourtney Crockett had 2 hits while Rebecca Swaney led OCC with 3.

The Knights (12-6, 3-1) continue action on Tuesday, March 22 when they host Southeastern Illinois College at the Jasper Boys and Girls Park in Newton, IL on South Scott Ave.



Saturday, March 19
Knights Split at Kaskaskia

The Lady Knights split a double header at Kaskaskia Saturday afternoon. The Knights lost the first game 5-1 and rebounded to win the second game 4-3 in 8 innings.

Braddi Reed (3-1) took the loss in the first game giving up 5 runs, 1 earned, on 5 hits. Kourtney Crockett and Emily Phillips both had doubles for the Knights, who left 10 runners on base.

Sam Tomasino (4-2) got the win in game 2 throwing 8 innings. She gave up 2 runs, 0 earned on 5 hits. Kourtney Crockett, Emily Phillips and Sam Flesch all had 2 hits for the Knights.

OCC (10-6, 3-1) returns to action on Monday when they travel to Ferguson, MO to face Florissant Valley.



Friday, March 18
Knights Sweep GRAC Opener

The Lady Knights picked up two wins to start the GRAC portion of their schedule today against Lincoln Trail. The games were played at the Newton High School field due to wet field conditions at OCC. The Knights won the first game 7-3 and the second game 7-4.

Braddi Reed (3-0) got the win in game one going 6 1/3 innings and giving up 3 runs, 2 earned. Samantha Tomasino got the save. Kourtney Crockett, Krystal Welch, DanYelle Bigham and Sam Butt all collected 2 hits apiece for the Knights.

Mackenzie Thomas (2-2) got the win in game 2, going 4 innings and giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits. Taylor Hueston pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run. Samantha Tomasino pitched 1 1/3 innings for her second save of the day. Kourtney Crockett had 2 hits and Emily Phillips 2 hits and 3 RBI in the winning effort.

The Lady Blue Knights would like to thank Newton High School Softball Coach Sara Beam and the people at Newton Community High School for letting us use their fields and facilities for the game. It is greatly appreciated.

The Knights (9-5, 2-0) continue play Saturday March 19 with a GRAC double header at Kaskaskia starting at noon.

Monday Game Against Flo Valley Away

The Lady Knights were originally scheduled to host Florissant Valley on Monday, March 21 at 2 PM. That double header will now be play at Florissant Valley in Ferguson, MO on Monday starting at 2 PM.

GRAC Opener Rescheduled

 Due to field conditions the Lady Knights home and GRAC opener against Lincoln Trail originally scheduled for Thursday at OCC has been rescheduled for Friday at Newton High School's field on South Scott Avenue in Newton. It is a double header that begins at 1 PM.



Friday, March 11
Knights Split Final Day Action

Olney defeated Lincoln College 4-3 before falling to Owens CC 4-1 in the last day of action in Myrtle Beach, SC. 

Sam Tomasino got the win and Mackenzie Thomas the save in game one. Taylor Hueston took the hard luck loss in game 2.

OCC (7-5) return to action at home on Thursday March 17 against GRAC opponent Lincoln Trail.  



Thursday, March 10
Knights Win 3 of 4

The Knights won both games in day 2 action in Myrtle Beach while splitting day 3 games. 

Tuesday:

The Knights defeated Community College of Beaver County 11-1. Samantha Tomasino picked up the win.

OCC then won game 2 against Penn College 9-0. Taylor Hueston picked up the complete game victory.

Wednesday:

Olney defeated Sauk Valley 6-1. Braddi Reed picked up the win.

In game 2 Olney scored single runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings to take a 4-3 lead, only to give up two runs in the bottom of the 7th to lose 5-4.

Emily Phillips went 6-7 on the day with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI. 

 OCC (6-4) got rained out Thursday, and will conclude play Friday.  



Monday, March 7
Knights Split Day 1 Action

The Lady Knights split day one action in Myrtle Beach after getting rained out on Sunday.  The Knights dropped the opening game 5-2 to Owens (Ohio) Community College.  The Knights gave up 4 unearned runs. 

The second game saw the Knights rebound with an 8-1 win over Lincoln (IL) College. Mackenzie Thomas pitched 6 innings and gave up 1 unearned run.

The Knights (3-3) continue action Tuesday against Beaver County and Penn College.  



Monday, February 28
Knights Split Opening Weekend

The Lady Knights went on the road to Tennessee where they split both doubleheaders against Jackson St. CC and Dyersburg St. CC.

The Lady Knights won the first game Saturday against Jackson St. 5-4 in 8 innings. The Knights spotted JSCC 4 runs in the first due to 4 errors. Braddi Reed kept them in check until she was relieved after 6 innings by Samantha Tomasino. Tomasino pitched 2 scoreless innings to pick up the win.  Krystal Welch went 2-4 with a double while Kourtney Crockett went 1-3 with a double also.

Game 2 saw the Knights fall 8-2. Sam Flesch went 2-3 with a 2 RBI double.

Against Dyersburg St. , the Knights fell in game one 2-1. Sam Tomasino took the hard luck loss, giving up 2 runs, both unearned, in 6 innings pitched. She gave up 3 hits and struck out 5 while walking 2. Paige Bullerdick went 2-3 and Emily Phillips went 1-3 with an RBI.

Braddi Reed picked up her first win of the year in game two, coming in relief and pitching the final two innings of a 2-1 Knights win.   Mackenzie Thomas pitched 4 solid innings, giving up one run, unearned, on 3 hits. Taylor Hueston pitched a perfect 5th inning.  Reed gave up one hit and struck out 2. Emily Phillips went 1-3 with an RBI while DanYelle Bigham went 1-3 with 2 stolen bases and a run scored.

Reed has not allowed an earned run in 8 innings pitched.

The Knights (2-2) continue play this Sunday when they take on Owens Community College (Ohio) in Myrtle Beach, SC as part of their spring trip.

The Lady Blue Knights will be conducting a Winter Softball Clinic on Saturday, February 19th, 2011.

This is an All-Skills camp conducted by the OCC coaching staff and current Lady Blue Knight players. Catchers may bring gear. Tennis shoes and gloves required. You may bring your own bat as well for the hitting portion of clinic. A short insurance form needs to be filled out before participation. They will be available at the the gym before clinic.

2010 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM HONORS

The 2010 Lady Blue Knights have earned recognition as an All-Academic Team. The Knights finished with a team GPA of 3.39, which was 12th in the nation among junior colleges. This is a great honor for the softball program and Olney Central College. The players worked hard both on and off the field throughout the year.

2010 Summer Softball Camps

The Lady Knights will be hosting two All-Skills Camps in June. The first is for those aged 6-12 and will be held June 22nd and 23rd from 9-10:30 AM at the OCC Softball Field.

The second is for ages 13-17 and it will be June 29th and 30th also at the OCC Softball Field from 9-10:30.

The camps are $30.00 and checks may be made to OCC Softball. A parent permission and waiver form, including insurance information, will need to be filled out. The form, along with payment, can be taken care of the day of the camp.

Thursday, May 13
Three Knights Garner Post Season Honors

Teddi Helsel, Traci Sanders and Kaitlin Wallace all earned post season awards for their performance during the 2010 season. All three ladies were named to the All-GRAC team, while Helsel and Wallace were named to the All-Region XXIV Team as well.

Helsel batted .345 with 9 HR and 52 RBI for the Knights. The HR and RBI totals were first on the team.  She also recorded a 16-7 record with a 1.92 ERA. When not pitching Helsel played first base.

Sanders led the team with a .442 BA and was second with 47 RBI. She also had a .502 OB% and had a .970 fielding percentage at second base.

Wallace hit .344 in the leadoff spot for the Knights with 17 RBI, 10 doubles and 2 triples. She also stole 44 of 46 bases, which ranked her 10th nationally. She had a .969 fielding percentage at shortstop.

The Knights set a school record for wins in 2010, finishing with a 39-22 record.



Tuesday, April 27
Knights Season Comes to an End

The Lady Knights fell to Rend Lake Monday afternoon 4-3 in the rubber match of the 3-game series. The loss eliminated the Knights from the post-season tournament.

Olney had their chances to score, leaving 12 runners on base, including the bases-loaded twice in the first 3 innings. The game was scoreless until Olney plated 2 runs in the top of the 5th. Rend Lake responded by scoring 4 in the 6th inning. The Knights could only manage 1 run in the 7th.

The Knights end their season with a 39-22 record.



Saturday, April 24
Knights Split First Round Games

The Knights avoided elimination by taking the second game at Rend Lake Friday afternoon. The Knights lost game one 4-0 before taking the nightcap 3-1.

The Knights never got things going offensively in the first game while Teddi Helsel took the hard luck loss.

Braddi Reed got the complete game win in game 2. Teddi Helsel had an RBI double which was followed by a 2 RBI single by Jessica Jonas in the 3rd inning.

The 3rd game was to be played Saturday afternoon, but had been postponed until Monday due to weather. The first pitch of the elimination game is set for 3 PM.

The Lady Knights record now stands at 39-21.

Knights Continue to Struggle

The Lady Knights dropped their regular season finale Monday afternoon in a GRAC matchup with John A. Logan. The Knights could never get the big hit needed in dropping both games 4-0 and 2-0.

The losses leave the Knights with a regular season record of 38-20, 18-14 in the GRAC. Because Rend Lake took 3 of 4 from the Knights, they earned the 4th seed in the upcoming tournament, while the Knights finished 5th. Below are the seedings with GRAC records:

Monday, April 19
Knights Drop Two to Rend Lake

The Lady Knights offense continued to struggle in dropping a home doubleheader to GRAC foe Rend Lake Sunday afternoon. The Knights dropped game one 1-0 and game two 4-2.

In game one, sophomore Teddi Helsel gave up one unearned run in the contest, as the bats for the Knights stayed quiet.

Despite having many scoring opportunities in game two, the Knights could only manage 2 runs. Teddi Helsel and Traci Sanders both had RBI singles in the contest.

The Knights (38-18, 18-12) wrap up their regular season with John A. Logan today at OCC Field. Game time is 2 PM.



Friday, April 16
Knights Drop Twinbill

In a battle for 3rd place in the conference, John A. Logan swept the Knights to take the spot. Logan won game one 7-0 and blanked the Knights 11-0 in the nightcap. OCC (36-16, 16-10) has a 3-day, 6-game homestand to finish the regular season. Saturday they take on SWIC in a noon start, Sunday they host Rend Lake at 2PM, and Monday they host a make-up with Logan at 2 PM.

Knights Sweep Millikin

The Knights picked up two more wins against Millikin University Wednesday afternoon in Decatur, IL. The Knights won game one 1-0 and game two 7-0.

Teddi Helsel picked up her 15th win (15-3) going 5 innings while Mackenzie Thomas picked up the save in the first game.

Braddi Reed picked up her 16th win of the year (16-7) also going 5 innings while Taylor Hueston pitched the final two innings. Angie Camp went 3-3 with a double and homerun in the game.

The Knights (36-14, 16-8) continue GRAC play Thursday at John A. Logan in Carterville, IL at 2 PM.

Knights Split at Southeastern

The Lady Blue Knights split a GRAC contest in Harrisburg on Monday against Southeastern Illinois College.

The Knights won game one 12-0 in 5 innings before falling 4-3 in the finale. Mackenzie Thomas picked up the win in game one.

The Knights (34-14, 16-8) continue play Wednesday in nonconference action at Millikin University in Decatur, IL.

Knights Win Two More

The Lady Knights swept a home double header with Kaskaskia Saturday afternoon by the scores of 4-3 and 8-0 in 5 innings.

Teddi Helsel led the way in game one, pitching a complete game and getting the win. She also led OCC at the plate, going 2-2 with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI while getting intentionally walked twice.

OCC took game two 8-0 in 5 innings. Braddi Reed picked up her 15th win of the year in going the distance. Teddi Helsel once again led the attack by going 3-3 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored. Angie Camp went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

The Knights (33-13, 15-7) continue GRAC play Tuesday when they travel to Southeastern Illinois College. First pitch is set for 2 PM.



Friday, April 9
Knights Sweep GRAC Twinbill

The Lady Knights picked up their 30th and 31st victories of the year with a conference sweep at Lincoln Trail.

Teddi Helsel went 3-4 with 2 RBI while Jordan Maurer went 2-3 and Traci Sanders 1-2 with 2 RBI. Braddi Reed picked up the win in relief of Helsel.  The Knights won 6-3.

In game two, Kaitlin Wallace went 2-4 with an RBI, Traci Sanders 1-2 with 2 RBI, and Mackenzie Thomas went 2-3 in the Knights 7-4 win. Braddi Reed picked up her 2nd win of the day and 14th of the year, while Thomas finished with the save.

The Knights (31-13, 13-7) continue action Saturday at home against GRAC opponent Kaskaskia. First pitch is set for noon.

Knights Take Two From Danville

The Lady Knights took two games from Danville Area Community College Monday afternoon in a nonconference double header. The Knights won game one 9-1 and game two 5-1.

Teddi Helsel picked up her 13th victory of the year in game one. Traci Sanders went 3-3 while Angie Camp and Emily Arnold both collected 2 hits apiece. Kaitlin Wallace had 4 stolen bases.

Braddi Reed picked up her 12th victory of the year in game two. Jessica Jonas, Traci Sanders and Teddi Helsel led the attack in game two, with each collecting hits and RBI. Taylor Hueston picked up her 2nd save in the the game.

The Knights (29-13, 11-7) continue GRAC  play Thursday at Lincoln Trail.



Friday, April 2
Knights Split With Wabash

The Lady Blue Knights split a double header at home against GRAC foe Wabash Valley Friday afternoon.

The Knights (27-13, 11-7) took a 9-3 lead into the 7th inning, only to give up 6 runs to the Lady Warriors. After Wabash scored a run in the top of the 8th, the Knights scored 2 runs in the bottom to secure an 11-10 win. Freshman Mackenzie Thomas picked up the win and delivered the walk-off hit in the bottom of the 8th.

The Knights struggled offensively in game two, dropping the contest 6-1.

OCC is back in action Monday at Danville Area for a nonconference double header. Game time is 2 PM.



Friday, April 2
Knights Drop Double Header

The Lady Knights dropped a GRAC twinbill Thursday at home to Lake Land. The Knights lost 10-6 in 10 innings in game one and 7-1 in game two.

Jessica Jonas and Traci Sanders each had 3 hits in game one, as the Knights had 15 hits total.

Teddi Helsel had a double in game two.

The Knights (26-12, 10-6) are back on the field today at home against Wabash Valley. First pitch is set for noon.

The Lady Knights took the first game of a GRAC double header 4-3 in Ina, before dropping the second contest 5-0.

Teddi Helsel picked up her 12th win of the year, with Taylor Hueston picking up the save. The Knights had 7 players collecting hits.

The Knights could only muster 3 hits the second game as they were blanked 5-0.

Knights Take Two From SWIC

The Knights loaded up the Chevy's and traveled to Southwestern Illinois College for a GRAC double-header Saturday. They came home with two more wins.

The Knights took game one 7-2 with Teddi Helsel collecting her 11th win on the season. Jordan Maurer had 3 hits on the day and Allison Murphy had an RBI triple.

The Knights completed the sweep with a 13-0, 5 inning contest. Teddi Helsel had a 3-run homerun while Mackenzie Thomas went 3-4 with 3 RBI. Braddi Reed also picked up her 11th win, with Thomas pitching a perfect 5th.

The Knights (25-9, 9-3) continue action Sunday with a nonconference doubleheader with Millikin University in Decatur, IL. The next GRAC contest will be Tuesday at Rend Lake.



Friday, March 26
Knights Sweep SIC

The Lady Blue Knights defeated Southeastern Illinois College in a GRAC match-up Friday afternoon at East Richland High School.

The Knights won both games in 5 innings by matching scores of 8-0. Teddi Helsel pitched all 5 innings the first game, allowing 1 hit and no runner reached 2nd base. The Knights has 12 hits in the game.

The second game had Braddi Reed pitch 2 innings with no hits, Taylor Hueston pitching the 3rd and 4th and allowing only 1 hit, and Hannah Feutz pitching a perfect 5th with 2 strikeouts. The Knights pounded out 14 hits in game two, bringing the total for the day to 26 hits for the Knights and only 2 for the visiting Lady Falcons. Traci Sanders went a perfect 3-3 on the day and 5-6 in the double header.

The Lady Knights (23-9, 7-3) continue GRAC action this Saturday at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, IL. First pitch is at noon. The Knights are then scheduled to go to Decatur, IL to face Millikin University on Sunday. First pitch is at 1 PM.

Knights Sweep Wabash Valley

The Lady Blue Knights took a GRAC double header Wednesday afternoon in Mt. Carmel against Wabash Valley. WVC is currently ranked #12 in the NJCAA DI National Poll.

The Knights won game one behind a complete game shutout by sophomore Teddi Helsel 2-0. Teddi also provided the offense by connecting for her 5th homerun, a two-run shot in the 6th inning.

The Knights completed the sweep by winning game two 4-3.  Braddi Reed got the win, surrendering 3 runs on 6 hits. Angie Camp went 2-4 with a double, while Jessica Jonas went 1-3 with a 2 RBI double.

The Lady Knights (21-9, 5-3) were to continue play Thursday at home against John A. Logan, but that game has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The next scheduled game is set for Friday at home against SIC.

Knights Sweep Home Opener

The Lady Blue Knights defeated GRAC foe Lincoln Trail Thursday afternoon at East Richland High School in their home opener. The Lady Knights won game one 4-0 and game two 4-2 behind solid pitching efforts from Teddi Helsel and Braddi Reed.

In game one Helsel went the distance giving up only two hits with 5 K's and one walk. Offensively Traci Sanders went 2-3 with a solo homerun in the 5th, her second on the year.

Game 2 saw Braddi Reed have another solid outing, spreading out 5 hits to go along with one K and 2 walks. Traci Sanders again led OCC at the plate, going 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Teddi Helsel had a 2-run homerun in the first inning.

The Lady Knights (18-8, 2-2) continue conference play Friday at Kaskaskia College.

Monday, March 15
Knights Drop Two Heartbreakers

The Lady Knights opened their GRAC season by dropping two tough games to the Lake Land Lady Lakers Monday afternoon in Mattoon. The Knights lost game one 1-0 in 14 innings and game two 2-1 in 8 innings.

Teddi Helsel pitched the first 13 innings against Lake Land, surrendering only 2 hits and no runs. Braddi Reed took the hard luck loss by giving up only 1 hit, which followed a walk and sacrifice bunt. Jordan Maurer went 3-6 and Kaitlin Wallace went 2-6 with a double. The Knights out-hit Lake Land 8-3 in the game.

Game 2 saw Braddi Reed take the hill, giving up 2 runs, 1 earned on only 4 hits. Traci Sanders went 2-4 with an RBI as the Knights only mustered 3 total hits.

The Lady Knights (16-8, 0-2) continue action at home on Wednesday against Danville Area. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was moved to Wednesday due to wet field conditions.

GRAC Opener Postponed

The Lady Knights GRAC opener at Lake Land scheduled for Sunday, March 14th has been postponed to Monday, March 15th for a 2 PM start time due to weather.

Saturday, March 13
Knights Finish 8-5 Down South

The Lady Blue Knights finished their spring trip down south with an 8-5 record. After splitting first day action against Walters State (TN) (W 3-1) and Wallace State (AL)(L 4-3) the Knights went downhill on day 2. The Knights lost to Snead State (AL) 8-4, followed by a 6-0 defeat to Alabama Southern and a 6-1 defeat to Bevill State (AL) in the nightcap. Day 3 action saw the Knights split by gaining a win against Gadsden State (AL) 10-2 before losing to Jefferson Davis (AL) 6-3 in 9 innings.

After a day off on Monday the 8th, the Knights were back in action at the University of West Florida Spring Fling. The Knights went 6-0 in the fling, sweeping Carl Sandburg (IL) on Tuesday 8-0 and 11-0, followed by a sweep of Lincoln Land (IL) 7-3 and 3-1, before finishing on Thursday with another win over Carl Sandburg 17-4 and finishing with a 10-1 win over John Wood (IL).

The Lady Knights (16-6) begin conference play this Sunday at Lake Land College in Mattoon. The Lady Lakers are the defending GRAC champions.



Friday, March 5
Knights Split Day 1 Action

The Lady Blue Knights continued their solid start to the season in splitting their first two games in Cullman, AL at the Wallace State Tournament. They opened the tournament by defeating Walters State Community College (TN) 3-1 before falling to the host school 4-3.

The Knights got a solid effort from Teddi Helsel on the bump, where she threw 6 innings and gave up only 1 run, unearned. Braddi Reed got the save (2) in one inning of relief. Kaitlin Wallace, Jordan Maurer and Traci Sanders all collected 2 hits apiece.

Braddi Reed got the start against Wallace State-Hanceville. She threw all 6 innings, giving up 4 runs, 2 earned.  The Knights surrendered 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd, only to tie the game with 3 runs in the top of the third. The Lady Lions scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the 6th with 2 outs in a first and third situation when the Knights failed to get the third out in a rundown before the runner from third scored. Teddi Helsel, Jordan Maurer, and Angie Camp all collected hits.

The Knights (9-2) continue action Saturday with games against Snead State, Alabama Southern and Bevill State.

Home Opener Cancelled

The Lady Knights 2010 home opener with Parkland College has been cancelled due to wet field conditions. No makeup has been set yet. The Lady Knights continue their season at the Wallace State Tournament in Cullman, Al March 5-7 and March 9-11 in Pensacola, FL. The Knights face a tough schedule in both places, including a game with the host school in Wallace State. The Lady Lions are currently #2 in the nation, after finishing runner-up for the national title in 2009 and winning the national championship in 2008.  The Knights play 13 games in 7 days before opening the GRAC season at Lake Land March 14.

Sunday, February 28
Knights Take Doubleheader

The Knights traveled to Dyersburg, TN on Saturday February 27th to play a doubleheader against Dyersburg State Community College. The Lady Knights won game one 9-6 and completed the sweep by taking game two 9-0.

Teddi Helsel (2-1) got the win in game one. She went 6 innings, giving up 6 runs, 3 earned, with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Braddi Reed earned her first save of the year pitching the 7th. Helsel and Angie Camp went 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBI each, while Morgan Clapp went 1-4 with 2 RBI as well. Kaitlin Wallace and Angie Camp both scored twice.

Braddi Reed (2-0) came back to pitch a complete game shutout in game two.  She gave up 3 hits (all singles), stuck out 3 and walked 4.  Kaitlin Wallace went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, Helsel went 2-5 with 2 RBI, Brittany Collyear went 3-4 with 2 RBI and Emily Arnold went 3-4 with an RBI.

The Knights (8-1) are to host their first game Tuesday, March 2nd against visiting Parkland College. The Cobras are pre-season #9 in the nation in NJCAA Division II.

Knights Sweep Lindsey Wilson

The Lady Knights hit the road to Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY this weekend. After picking up two forfeit wins on Saturday, the Knights took a double header from Lindsey Wilson J.V. squad on Saturday. The Knights won game one 8-0 and game two 10-2. The Knights had solid pitching in both games and a perfect offensive day from Jordan Maurer.

Taylor Hueston picked up her 2nd win of the season (2-0) in pitching all 5 innings of the run-rule game. She gave up 3 hits, striking out 4 and walking 1. Jordan Maurer went 2-2 with an RBI, Teddi Helsel went 1-3 with 3 RBI, and Angie Camp went 2-3 with 3 RBI.

In game 2, Teddi Helsel (1-1) got the win. She threw 5 shutout innings, giving up only 3 singles. Jordan Maurer went 4-4 with 2 RBI, Traci Sanders went 2-4 with 5 RBI and had a grand slam. Teddi Helsel and Julia Camp each recorded 2 hits apiece.

The Knights (6-1) continue their schedule next Saturday at Dyersburg State Community College in Tennessee.



Sunday, February 14
Knights Have Solid Opening Weekend

The Lady Knights started their 2010 season in Muscle Shoals, Alabama February 13th. Fridays opening games were rained out in the Northwest Shoals CC Patriot Bash. The Knights got three games in on Saturday. They lost the first game of the day to Columbia State CC (Columbia, TN) 3-0, then rebounded to defeat the host school 4-3 and continued the momentum by defeating Northeast Mississippi CC 7-2 under the lights in the nightcap. Sundays doubleheader at Calhoun CC (Decatur, AL) was also rained out. 

Against Columbia State the Knights played strong despite being on a field since October. The game was scoreless until the 5th inning when Columbia State finally caught up with sophomore pitcher Teddi Helsel (Carmi, IL). In the 5th, CSCC scored 2 runs with 2 outs. The Lady Chargers then added a single run in the sixth to account for the final score.

Helsel was strong in the season opener, yielding only 4 hits to the southern Tennessee school. She gave up all 3 runs, 1 earned, and took the hard-luck loss. The Knights out-hit CS 6-4, with Brazil, IN native Traci Sanders going 3-3 and Helsel, Jordan Maurer (Fort Branch, IN) and Julia Camp (Carmi, IL) each collecting a hit.

In the second game of the day, the Knights rebounded with a win over Northwest Shoals CC (Muscle Shoals, AL) 4-3. Freshman Braddi Reed (Charleston, IL) kept the Patriots in check until the 5th inning, when NWSCC scored 3 runs, all earned. The Knights persevered and retired NWS in order in the 6th and 7th innings.

Offensively the Knights struck early, with three runs in the first thanks to aggressive at-bats. With one out, Maurer reached on an error, then back-to-back doubles by Sanders and Helsel put the Knights up 2-0. Sophomore Angie Camp (Clay City, IN) then followed with and RBI single to score Helsel, and the Knights were up 3-0. Sophomore Brittany Collyear (Indianapolis, IN) added a solo homerun in the 3rd inning to account for OCC's scoring. The Knights out-hit the Patriots 10-4.

The final game of the day for the Knights was against Northeast Mississippi CC (Booneville, MS). The third strong pitching performance of the day belonged to freshman Taylor Hueston (Cartersburg, IN). Despite giving up 9 hits to the Tigers, they only mustered 2 runs against the Knights as OCC won its second game of the day 7-2.

Offensively for the Knights, Maurer led the attack going 2-4 with 2 RBI, while Traci Sanders went 1-2 with an RBI. Sophomore Morgan Clapp (Shelbyville, IN) went 1-3 with an RBI as well.

The Knights (2-1) continue their spring campaign February 19-20 with a 4 game series in Columbia, KY against Lindsey Wilson College.

Winter Softball Camp

The Lady Blue Knights will be hosting a Winter Softball Camp on Sunday, February 7th at the OCC Gym. 

Those ages 6-12 will meet from 1PM to 2:30. Registration starts at 12:45. Those ages 13 and up will meet from 3PM to 4:30. This camp will focus on hitting and fielding.

There will also be a free pitching clinic from 5pm to 6pm in the OCC gym following the camps. All ages are welcome.

The cost for each camp is $30.00. Checks may be made payable to OCC Softball

This Friday the Knights travel to Carterville for a tournament. They will be playing on two fields on Friday and Saturday.

To Carterville Field: take Greenbriar from John A. Logan campus and head north to the 4-way. Turn left at 4-way. Continue straight until the next stop sign and make a right onto the school's driveway. The field is located on right of school.

Knights Finish Season Third in Region

The Lady Knights finished their season in 3rd place in the Region 24 Tournament. In an elimination game, the Knights were defeated by Lake Land 6-1. The Knights had beaten the #1 ranked Lady Lakers in the first semifinal game Tuesday 2-1.

Due to wet field conditions, the games were moved to Mattoon, IL.

The Knights finished the year with a 22-25 record.

Wabash Valley earned a trip to the National Tournament by defeating Lake Land 9-2 in the final game Wednesday. Lake Land needed to beat Wabash twice to advance.

The Lady Knights would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to Rend Lake coach Dave Ellingsworth and his Rend Lake players for their work during the tournament and in trying to get their field playable. The Knights would also like to thank the Mattoon recreation department for getting their fields playable so the region tournament could be completed. Both crews worked extremely hard and it was greatly appreciated.



Tuesday, May 5
Lady Knights Split

The Lady Knights finally got on the field in the Region 24 Final Four tournament hosted by Rend Lake. The Knights won the first game of the contest 2-1 against nationally ranked Lake Land. The Lady Lakers, #11 in the nation in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. Lindsey Wedding led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homerun to tie the game. Teddi Helsel then hit a single to left, and was replaced on the basepath by Jessica Allen. Amanda Hostettler then laid down a sacrifice bunt, which was misplayed by the Lakers third baseman, leaving runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Jamie Lytle then sacrificed them to 2nd and 3rd with one out. After a strikeout, Emily Arnold drove in the winning run on a hit between the 3rd baseman and shortstop.

After sitting out two games, the Knights then took on Wabash Valley, who earlier beat John A. Logan 7-0. The Knights could only muster one run and lost, 4-1. Wabash Valley (#15) will await the winner of Olney and Lake Land tomorrow at 1PM.

Lake Land eliminated Logan 8-0 in the afternoon contest on Tuesday.

Mother nature has put another dent in the Region 24 schedule. Games have been cancelled for Saturday and Sunday. Lake Land and Olney will play at 10 AM Monday at Rend Lake College. Wabash Valley and Logan will play at noon. Losers will play at 2 with the winners at 4.

Region 24 Tournament Postponed

The Region 24 Final Four Tournament has been postponed to Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd due to weather. The schedule remains the same. Olney opens against Lake Land at 10 AM, with Wabash Valley and Logan following at noon.

The losers of those games play at 2 with the winners playing at 4.

Knights Advance to Region XXIV Final Four

The Lady Knights won a marathon Saturday afternoon against Rend Lake. In the deciding third game of a best-of-three series, Olney outlasted the visiting Warriors from Rend Lake 4-3 in 12 innings.

The win puts the Knights overall record to 21-23 as they advance to the Region XXIV Final Four next Friday at Rend Lake. The Knights will face the #1 seed Lake Land team at 10AM.

Katie Harmon pitched 6 solid innings, leaving the game with the Knights up 3-1. Rend Lake bounced back in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 3. Kelly Fougerousse picked up the win for the Knights, as Amanda Hostettler singled in Chelsey Sechrest to end the contest in the bottom of the 12th.

Both teams made big plays throughout the hard fought contest.



Friday, April 24
Knights Split First Round Games

The Lady Knights split their first round Region 24 games Friday against a visiting Rend Lake team.

The Knights won game one 8-0, then fell in game two 15-13.

Katie Harmon pitched a 5-inning shutout in game 1.

Game 2 saw a big 5th inning, with Rend Lake scoring 8 runs to take a 12-5 lead, only to see Olney come back and score 7 runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it.

The third game of the best-of-3 series is Saturday, April 25th beginning at noon.

Knights to Host First Round Region Games

The Lady Knights finished the 2009 season in 4th place in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference, allowing them to host a first round contest beginning this Friday, April 24th, starting at 2PM. Here is a breakdown of the tournament:

Logan will host Lincoln Trail.

Olney will host Rend Lake.

The 4 first round winners will then meet at Rend Lake on May 1st and 2nd in a double elimination tournament to determine the Region 24 champion and National Tournament qualifier. The national tournament will be held in St. George, UT May 13-16.

The Knights GRAC contest against Southeastern has been cancelled due to wet field conditions. Because of the rainout, the regular season has now been concluded with the Knights finishing the regular season 19-22 overall, 14-14 in the GRAC.

Sunday's GRAC contest with Kaskaskia College has been rained out. There will be no makeup to the game.

The Knights continue play Monday, April 20 in Decatur, IL for a non-conference contest with Millikin University. First pitch is set for 4PM.

Knights Sweep SWIC

The Knights got a little revenge Saturday against Southwestern Illinois College by sweeping the Blue Storm. SWIC beat OCC twice Wednesday. The Knights won game one Saturday 11-3 and game two 8-0.

Kelly Fougerousse picked up the win in game one. She gave up 3 runs in the first inning, then settled down and shut the Blue Storm out the rest of the contest. Jessica Jonas had a homerun while Teddi Helsel and Jordan Maurer each had RBI doubles.

Katie Harmon picked up the win in game two, pitching all five innings the shortened contest. Angie Camp collected a couple of hits, including a homerun in the contest.

The pair of wins puts the Knights at 19-22 overall, 14-14 in the GRAC.

Knights Split with Logan

The Knights split a doubleheader with John A. Logan Friday afternoon in Carbondale. The Knights won game one 8-4 before dropping the second contest 8-0. Kelly Fougerousse picked up the win in game one, going the distance.

Angie Camp went 2-2 at the plate to pace the Knights in the first game.

Amanda Hostettler had a double in game two.

Logan Doubleheader Rescheduled

The Knights Thursday doubleheader against Logan at SIU-C has been cancelled due to a wet field. The makeup for the game is Friday, April 17 in Carbondale at Carbondale High School's field. First pitch is 1:30.

Knights Drop Two to SWIC

The Knights lost both games of a double header at SWIC Wednesday. They lost game one 7-3 and game two 5-4. That drops the Knights to 16-21 overall, 11-13 in the GRAC.

Next up for the Knights is a double header with John A. Logan on Thursday. The game has been moved to SIU-Carbondale at their softball complex for a nighttime double header beginning at 6PM.

Lady Knights Sweep Rend Lake

The Lady Knights got a pair of road wins Tuesday at Rend Lake. The Knights won game one 8-5 and game two 16-7.

Chelsey Sechrest went 4-5 while Amanda Hostettler went 3-4 in the first game. Teddi Helsel, Jamie Lytle and Jordan Maurer all had homeruns.

Katie Harmon picked up the win. Kelly Fougerousse got the save.

The Knights scored 4 runs in the second, 7 in the fourth and 5 in the fifth inning of game two. Helsel went 2-4 with 3 RBI while Hostettler, Traci Sanders and Jamie Lytle all had homeruns, Lytle's being a grand slam in the fourth inning.

Chelsie Cowman got the victory.

The Knights (16-19, 11-11) continue action on Wednesday, April 15th at SWIC in Belleville. First pitch is set for 2PM.

The Lady Knights will now travel to Rend Lake on Tuesday, April 14 for a GRAC double header beginning at 3PM. The regularly scheduled contest against Southeastern has been rained out and rescheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at Harrisburg.

Knights Sign Camp

Julia Camp, a catcher and infielder from Carmi, IL, recently signed a letter of intent for the Lady Knights. She will join fellow Carmi native Teddi Helsel on the roster starting in the fall. The Knights welcome her addition and the versatility she will bring. She is another signee that comes from a winning tradition of softball and that will only help the Knights in the future.

Knights Sign Swaney

The Lady Knights welcome Rebecca Swaney from Tuscola for the 2009-2010 season. Rebecca hit .468 with 24 RBI as a junior last year for the 26-3 Warriors. She will be a welcome addition as a middle infielder for the Knights.

The Lady Knights two games scheduled for Saturday, April 11th in Trenton, IL at the McKendree University Bearcat Tournament have been cancelled due to the hurricane that passed through Illinois. The Lady Knights return to action on Monday when they travel to Ina to face Rend Lake.

Friday, April 10
Knights Split at Lincoln Trail

The Knights split a double header at Lincoln Trail Thursday in Robinson. The Knights won 6-5 before dropping the second game 6-5.

The Knights entered the top of the seventh inning down 5-4, only to score two runs and pull out the victory. Chelsey Sechrest led off the inning with a triple, and scored on a sac fly by Angie Camp. After a pop-out, Teddi Helsel walked and replaced by Bianca Costantino on the base path. Amanda Hostettler then hit an RBI double to score Costantino and give the Knights the lead. Trail led off the bottom of the seventh with back to back hits, but Katie Harmon buckled down and retired the next 3 in order.

Lindsey Wedding went 2-4 with an RBI and Teddi Helsel went 1-2 with an RBI in the game. Jessica Jonas had a solo homerun in the 4th inning.

Game 2 saw the Knights jump out to a 5-0 lead after 3 innings, only to let Trail come back and win in the bottom of the seventh. It was the fourth inning that hurt the Knights, as Trail scored 5 runs in the inning on 3 hits and two walks.

Wedding once again went 2-4 with 2 RBI, while Jamie Lytle went 1-3 with 2 RBI.

The Knights GRAC contest with Kaskaskia scheduled for Friday, April 10th, has been cancelled due to weather. It has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 19th starting at 1PM. The Knights continue action at the McKendree Tournament Saturday, April 11th, starting at noon against St. Louis CC-Forest Park. The Knights then play McKendree at 4PM. The games will be played at Trenton Park in Trenton, IL. It is located 10 miles east of Lebanon, IL on route 50.

The Knights doubleheader this Thursday (April 9) at Lincoln Trail will now start at noon instead of 2:00 because of a conflict with the field.

Wabash Beats Knights

Nationally ranked Wabash Valley, #12 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, defeated the Knights in two games Saturday in Olney. Wabash won game one 5-2 and game two 9-1.

The losses dropped the Knights to 13-18 overall, 8-10 in the GRAC. Monday's game at home against Danville Area has been cancelled due to weather. No makeup date has been determined. The next game for the Knights is Thursday at Lincoln Trail in a GRAC contest.

Knights Lose Two to Lake Land

Lake Land showed why they are one of the top teams in the GRAC by defeating the Knights in a double header Thursday afternoon in Olney. Capitalizing on Knights mistakes and big hits, the Lakers defeated Olney 9-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two.

The Knights could only muster one hit against Lake Land's Aubrey Frank. 

Teddi Helsel hit a solo shot in game two for the Knights only run, as miscues proved costly for OCC. Katie Harmon took the hard-luck loss.

The Knights (13-16, 8-8) continue action this Saturday, April 4th against GRAC foe Wabash Valley. First pitch is set for noon.

Knights Take GRAC Twinbill From Rend Lake

The Lady Knights took both games of a doubleheader against Rend Lake Monday afternoon. The Knight won game one 7-3 and game two 6-5 in 9 innings.

Lindsey Wedding led the attack in game one, going 2-4 with 3 RBI. Jordan Maurer went 2-3 with 2 doubles. Jamie Lytle, Amanda Hostettler and Jessica Jonas all collected RBI. Katie Harmon went the distance, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1.

Teddi Helsel started game two, going 4 innings while giving up 3 runs. Chelsie Cowman pitched 1 2/3 innings relief before handing the ball over to Harmon, who collected her 2nd win of the day. She pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Wedding was 1-5 with 3 RBI, Angie Camp went 2-4 with a double, and Jamie Lytle went 4-5, all singles, including the game winner in the bottom of the 9th to score Traci Sanders.

The Knights (13-14, 8-6) travel to Rend Lake Tuesday, March 31 for a regularly scheduled GRAC match-up.

The make-up date for Saturday's rainout (3-28-09) with SWIC has been made for Wednesday, April 15th starting at 2PM.

Knights Twinbill at SWIC Rained Out

The next game for the Knights is Monday, March 30 against GRAC foe Rend Lake. It is a home game for the Knights, and a make-up game from March 10. First pitch is at 2PM.

Knights Struggle Against Logan

The Knights dropped a pair of home games against John A. Logan Thursday afternoon. Despite a solid effort from pitcher Katie Harmon, the Knights dropped the first game 3-0. Chelsey Sechrest was 2-4 while Jessica Jonas and Jordan Maurer both notched singles. Harmon scattered 6 hits in giving up the 3 runs, all earned.

The second game saw the Knights fall 7-0. Angie Camp was 3-4 with a double and Lindsey Wedding was 2-4, but the Knights left 11 runners on base. Kelly Fougerousse took the loss.

The Knights (11-14, 6-6) continue play Saturday in a GRAC match-up at Southwestern Illinois College. Game one is set for a noon start.

Knights Take GRAC Twinbill

The Lady Knights got back on the winning track Tuesday afternoon against Southeastern Illinois College. The Knights took game one 14-2 and game two 12-1.

After surrending two runs in the top of the first inning in the first game, the Knights got the bats going in the bottom, highlighted by Lindsey Weddings two-run homerun over the left field fence. The Knights had 3 round-trippers in the second inning to blow the game open. Jamie Lytle had a 3-run blast while Brittany Collyear and Emily Arnold went back-to-back. Kelly Fougerousse went the distance in winning the 5-inning affair.

Brittany Collyear added her second homerun of the day leading off the second inning for the Knights and Selina Roman hit her first of the year in the fourth as OCC completed the sweep. The fourth inning saw the first three batters (Lindsey Wedding, Jamie Lytle, Cally Hubbell) hit doubles before Roman's base-clearing shot to center. Morgan Clapp added a 3-run triple. Chelsie Cowman went the distance in the win.

The Knights (11-12, 6-4) continue with conference play Thursday as they host John A. Logan at OCC's field. First pitch is 2PM.

Knights Lose Two to Wabash

The Lady Knights lost both games to Wabash Valley on Sunday afternoon. The Knights lost game one 9-1 and game two 8-0. Their record falls to 9-12, 4-4 in the GRAC while Wabash improves to 21-0, 8-0 in the GRAC.

The Knights return to action on Tuesday, March 24 with a GRAC double header against Southeastern Illinois College. First pitch is 2PM.



Saturday, March 21
Knights Make it Six in a Row

The Lady Knights improved their record to 9-10, 4-2 in the GRAC with a sweep of Kaskaskia College Saturday afternoon. The Knights pounded out 14 hits in the first game, as all 9 batters recorded at least one hit. Jordan Maurer was 2-2 with a sacrifice and Chelsey Sechrest was 2-3 with a walk. Katie Harmon picked up the complete game victory as the Knights won the first game 5-1.

Olney won game two 8-3 behind some clutch hitting. The third inning saw consecutive hits by Sechrest and Angie Camp to lead off, and they were sacrificed over by Lindsey Wedding. Amanda Hostettler, Traci Sanders and Jessica Jonas then followed with singles as the Knights plated 5 runs in the inning. Lindsey Wedding added a two run homerun in the fourth inning as the Knights put the game away. Kelly Fougerousse picked up the win, giving up 2 runs in 4 innings while Teddi Helsel was solid in relief, giving up 1 run in 3 innings of work.

The Knights are back in action Sunday, March 22 at Wabash Valley for a conference double header. First pitch is slated for 1PM.



Thursday, March 19
Knights Take Double Header from LT

The Lady Knights defeated Lincoln Trail in a GRAC conference match-up. The Knights won game one 7-4. Kelly Fougerousse (3-3) picked up the win in relief of starter Chelsie Cowman. Amanda Hostettler led the Knights at the plate by going 3-3 with 2 RBI. Angie Camp and Lindsey Wedding each had 2 hits.

Game 2 saw the Knights jump out to a 7-0 lead after 4 innings, only to see LT mount a comeback. Three runs in the bottom of the 6th by the Knights helped preserve a 10-5 victory. Teddi Helsel (1-2) picked up the win, while Katie Harmon pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th inning in relief. Amanda Hostettler continued her hot bat by going 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI, while Angie Camp went 3-4 with 2 RBI. Jamie Lytle went 3-4 as well and Chelsey Sechrest, Lindsey Wedding and Traci Sanders all collected 2 hits apiece as the Knights pounded out 17 hits.

The Knights (7-10, 2-2 GRAC) continue conference play this weekend at Kaskaskia Saturday and at Wabash Valley on Sunday. There is a noon start in Centralia and a 1 PM start in Mt. Carmel.



Wednesday, March 18
Knights sweep Danville

The Lady Knights swept Danville Area Wednesday afternoon in Danville. OCC won game one 5-1 and game two, 7-0. Kelly Fougerousse (2-3) pitched a complete game in the opener. She scattered 7 hits while striking out four. Chelsey Sechrest was 2-2 while Amanda Hostettler was 2-3.

Katie Harmon (1-5) picked up the win in game two. She pitched five shutout innings and only gave up 1 hit. Teddi Helsel pitched the final two innings and gave up 2 hits. Lindsey Wedding was 2-3 with a double and triple while Jamie Lytle was 2-3 with a triple.

The Lady Knights (5-10) return to action Thursday at OCC against Lincoln Trail. The GRAC contest is set to begin at 2PM.

Knights Split with Lindenwood

The Lady Knights split with Lindenwood at home Sunday afternoon. OCC won the first game 8-1 before falling in the second game 5-0. Chelsie Cowman (2-0) won game 1 for the Knights. That brings the Lady Knights overall record to 3-10 with their next contest being Wednesday, March 18th at Danville Area Community College.

Sunday, March 15
Knights Lose GRAC Opener

The Lady Knights gave up 8 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to lose the first game of their GRAC opener at Lake Land, 9-0. The Knights entered the bottom of the 6th down 1-0, but three errors and some timely hits were their downfall.

The Knights also lost the second game, 2-1, but had their chances in the 4th inning. The Knights got the bases loaded with no outs, but a base running error cost the Knights the chance at a big inning. A hard hit line drive to left field by Traci Sanders was ended up being the first out on a diving catch by Lake Lands left fielder, who then doubled off the Knight's runner on third who left the base to score. Sophomore Katie Harmon took the hard luck loss.

 The Knights (2-9, 0-2) continue play Sunday, March 15th against Lindenwood at OCC's field beginning at noon.

Lake Land Game Cancelled

The Knights game against Lake Land in Mattoon has been cancelled for Thursday, March 12. The game has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 14th with a 12:00 Noon start time.

The Rend Lake game that was cancelled March 10th has now been rescheduled for Monday, March 30 beginning at 2 PM.

Knights Struggle in Alabama

The Lady Knights struggled down south this weekend at the Wallace State Tournament. They pitched well enough to win, but couldn't put together the hits or defensive plays when it mattered. They opened with a loss to a very good Columbia State (Tennessee) team 8-1, despite only being down 4-0 after 5 innings. They then held a 2-0 lead in the second game Friday against another good team, Georgia Perimeter after 4 innings, only to lose 10-2. Saturday's morning game against Jefferson State (Alabama) was scoreless after 7 innings, causing an international tie-breaker.  Jefferson State scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th, only to see the Knights come back with 2 runs in the bottom. Jeff State got the bases loaded in the top of the 9th with two outs, and a dropped fly ball to the outfield allowed all 3 runners to score. The Knights could only manage one run in the bottom of the 9th and fell 5-3.  The Knights left 13 runners on base.

Bracket play began Saturday night at 8pm for the Knights, where they played Aiken Tech (South Carolina). The Knights fell again, 4-0, despite another solid pitching performance. Sunday's game was against Volunteer State (Tennessee), a team that the Knights split a double-header against on February 15th. Coach Lynn's team came out on top, 3-0, in the rubber match.

The Knights (2-7) were to host Rend Lake at 2pm in Olney on Tuesday, March 10th to open up GRAC conference play, but that game has been cancelled due to weather. No make-up has been scheduled yet.



Sunday, February 22
Knights Split with Lindenwood

The Knights traveled to St. Charles, MO to take on Lindenwood February 22nd for a double header. It was another cold day for the Knights, with gametime temperatures hovering around 30 degrees, with the wind making it feel even colder.  Game 1 saw Kelly Fougerousse go 6 innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1. Traci Sanders was 2-3 with 2 doubles while Jordan Maurer had 4 RBI. Chelsey Sechrest was 1-2 with 2 RBI, 3 walks and 2 stolen bases. The Knights won 14-3.

The Knights struggled in the first inning of the second game, surrendering 5 runs to Lindenwood while committing 3 errors. The Knights came back with a run in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th, to pull within 6-5, but that was as close as it would get as Lindenwood won 7-5. Lindsey Wedding was 2-4 while Brittany Collyear, Amanda Hostettler and Jordan Maurer all collected RBI.

The Knights (2-2) return to action March 6th at the Wallace State-Hanceville tournament in Cullman, AL. They face Columbia State out of Tennessee at 10 AM.



Monday, February 16
Knights split with Volunteer State

The Lady Knights traveled to Madisonville, TN Friday in an attempt to play Hiwassee College in a doubleheader Saturday. However, due to rain, the games were cancelled. The Knights then loaded up and traveled to Gallatin, TN Saturday afternoon to play Volunteer State on Sunday.

Despite cold temps (35 degrees), the Knights got two games in against a very good Vol St. squad. The Knights dropped the first game of the year 10-2 despite taking a lead in the first inning. Amanda Hostettler drove in the first run on an RBI single that plated Jessica Jonas who got on by a walk that was followed by another walk to Kelly Fougerousse. That brought up Hostettler who singled up the middle of the infield. The other run was plated in the 5th inning after Angie Camp walked, then advanced on a sac bunt by Jordan Maurer. Camp moved up to third on a passed ball and scored on a groundout to second base by Jessica Jonas.

The Knights evened up their record with a 6-4 win in the second game. After falling behing 2-0 after 3 innings, the Knights scored 2 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to take a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the 6th. After Vol. St. plated 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th and threatening with runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs, Kelly Fougerousse came in and got a hot hitting Abbey Stepp to groundout to Brittany Collyear at first base. Stepp came into the at-bat 6-6 in the double header. Fougerousse pitched a 3-up, 3-down 7th for the save. Olney product Chelsie Cowman got the win (1-0), going 5 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs (2 earned) while scattering 11 hits.

Hostettler was 1-3 with a 2 RBI double in the 4th, while Lindsey Wedding went 2-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

Next up for the Lady Knights (1-1) is Lindenwood University next Sunday (Feb. 22) in St. Charles, MO.

The Knights would like to thank Coach Lynn and Coach Buckner at Volunteer State for letting the Knights use their facilities for practice Saturday afternoon. The Knights greatly appreciate their hospitality.

OCC Signs Trio

The Lady Blue Knights welcome three pitchers for the 2009-2010 season. Mackenzie Thomas of Arcola, IL, Braddi Reed of Charleston, IL and Taylor Hueston of Clayton, IN will all have an immediate impact on the squad.  They are all hardworking, talented young ladies and the Lady Blue Knights welcome them to the program.

 The Lady Knights open their spring 2009 season this Saturday, February 14 against Hiwassee College in Madisonville, TN. They then travel to Gallatin, TN on Sunday the 15th to take on Volunteer State. Both are highly competitive programs that compete in the the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association (TJCCAA), one of the toughest divisions in the country. It should be a good gauge to see where the Knights are and where they need to be for the rugged GRAC season.

Winter Softball Camp

The Lady Blue Knights will be holding a softball clinic on Saturday, January 10 in the OCC gym. The first session is for girls 6-12 years old and will be from 8am-10am. The second session will be for 13-17 year olds and will be from 10am-12 noon. The cost of the camp is $20.00 per person and there will be an insurance form that will need to be filled out. You can preregister your child by emailing Coach Short at shortn@iecc.edu or by calling him at 395-7777 ext. 2223. It will be an all-skills clinic.
