Knights Bounce Back with 66-59 Road Win

After falling Monday at Belleville the Knights were on the road at Kaskaskia on Wednesday night and fared much better with a 66-59 victory. OCC had double digit leads in both halves but Kaskaskia would not go away without a fight. OCC lead 29-18 in the first half before allowing KC a 10-0 run. OCC would lead 34-32 at the break.

OCC went on a 10-0 run from the 4:02 to 0:40 mark of the game to push their lead to 61-49. KC would hit a few bombs late in the game as OCC went 5-8 at the charity stripe to leave the door cracked. OCC held on for a 66-59 road win.

OCC is now 13-5, 4-1 in GRAC. They will host Lincoln Trail Saturday in the Coaches vs Cancer game



Tuesday, January 18
Knights Fall 53-51 at Southwestern Illinois

The Knights saw their five game streak snapped Monday night in Belleville. The game was hard fought as both teams played extremely hard. No team led by more than six points and their was 13 lead changes. SW held a 25-23 lead at halftime. Both teams would battle in the second half. OCC took a 51-47 lead with 5:20 remaining in the game. However OCC would not score a single point for the rest of the way. Chase Brinkley had a chance to take the lead for OCC with little time remaining but his shot was long.

 OCC drops to 12-5 and 3-1 in the GRAC. They will travel to Kaskaskia Wednesday night to finish their three game road trip.

OCC shot 31% from the floor in the loss. OCC only committed 9 turnovers while forcing 21. OCC held SWIC to 1-2 at the charity stripe. OCC was 8-28 from long range.

Chase Brinkley and John Michael Jarvis led OCC with 11 points each. Austin Akers added 10 points and 4 assists in the defeat.



Monday, January 17
Knights Survive 67-64 at Rend Lake

It wasn't pretty, but winning on the road in the GRAC is never easy. OCC and Rend Lake locked horns for 40 minutes Saturday afternoon in Ina. OCC got a quick 10-4 lead. OCC and Rend Lake would have six ties and six lead changes in the first half. OCC held a lead of six points on three occassions, but could not pull away. OCC went into halftime leading 39-36.

OCC would build their lead to double digits on three occassions in the second half, but Rend Lake would not go away. OCC led 65-53 with 3:51 to go in the game. OCC kept the door open by missing three front end situations at the charity stripe and committing five if their 12 turnovers. Rend Lake took advantage as Dustin Winter's trifecta made it a 65-64 OCC lead with 1:28 to play. After empty possessions by both teams Ason Hacker made 2-2 at the line to give OCC a 67-64 lead with 14 seconds to play. OCC was able to get a stop as Rend Lake's long bomb was off the mark.

OCC was led by Jordan Mitchell's 16 points. Ason Hacker added 13 points. Austin Akers added 10 points and 5 assists. Chase Brinkley battled foul problems and chipped in with 9 points. Jeff Hefner had a game high 12 rebounds.

 OCC moves to 12-4 and 3-0 in the GRAC. They travel to Southwestern Illinois Monday night



Thursday, January 13
Knights Slip Past John A. Logan 65-55

The OCC Blue Knights found a way to defeat the much bigger and more athletic John A Logan Volunteers by a 65-55 margain. The game was close throughout the first half as Logan led 35-32 at the break. The Knights played a great second half on the defensive holding Logan to just 20 points as they were able to hold onto a 65-55 victory. Logan held a 42-35 with 16 minutes to go in the game. OCC was able to hold Logan to 9 points in the last 11 minutes of the game.

OCC was led by Austin Akers with 16 points and 6 assists. Jordan Mitchell hit 4-7 from long range and added 14 points. Chase Brinkley and Ason Hacker each added 12 points in the win. Jeff Hefner added a team-high 9 rebounds.

OCC has now won 11 of its last 12 games. They are now 2-0 in GRAC play and 11-4 overall. The Knighs return to action Saturday at Rend Lake for the first of three straight road games



Tuesday, January 11
Knights Find Win in GRAC Opener

OCC opened up GRAC play in grand style with a 74-64 win over Lake Land. Lake Land entered the night with a 12-2 record (1-0 in GRAC). It was a nip tuck game throughout. Both teams went into halftime tied at 33 a piece. it went back and forth until OCC was able to gain control of the game in the last ten minutes.

 

OCC moves to 10-4 on the season and 1-0 in the GRAC. OCC was led by John Michael Jarvis' 22 points. Austin Akers chipped in with 17 points and 7 assists. Ason Hacker added 16 points and 5 rebounds. Chase Brinkley added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Jeff Hefner did not score, but grabbed 10 rebounds.

 OCC will return to the Dungeon on Wednesday to face a 8-4 John A. Logan team who is 2-0 in GRAC play.



Tuesday, January 11
Knights Return From Long Layoff

OCC opened the 2nd part of their season Thursday night with a 88-82 win over a very talented Rise Academy Prep. Rise gave OCC alot of problems as Rise led 42-34 at the break. Chase Brinkley carried the Knights in the 2nd half by scoring 21 of his game high 29 points.

 OCC looked sloppy at times as they had not played since December 8th. The win improves OCC to 9-4 on the season.

 

They open GRAC play on Monday January 10 versus Lake Land



Thursday, December 9
Knights Win on Road 80-72

OCC finished up first semester play in grand fashion with a 80-72 win at Parkland. Parkland had been a hot team winning six in a row. OCC jumped out quick to a 5-2 lead before Parkland went on a run to take a 20-9 lead. Jordan Mitchell got hot for OCC hitting three straight treys to tie the game at 28 all. Parkland led 34-32 at the half as OCC committed 12 turnovers in the first half.

Parkland scored the first five points of the second half to push the lead to 39-32. OCC took the lead at 46-45 on two free throws by PJ Alston. OCC would never look bad as they would hold a 6-10 point lead the rest of the way.

 

OCC placed four players in double figures. Austin Akers scored 24 with 20 coming in the 2nd half. Chase Brinkley scored 15 of his 17 in the second half. Jordan Mitchell scored 12 points all coming in the first half. PJ Alston added 10 points. John Michael Jarvis chipped in with 9 points and 9 steals.

 

OCC only committed 4 turnovers in the 2nd half while making 21-24 at the charity stripe in the 2nd half.

 

OCC will take a 8-4 record into break and will return to action at home on Jan 5 versus New Creations Prep



Monday, December 6
Knights Fall to Lincoln 86-80

Lincoln snapped the OCC win streak at seven games by coming into Olney and defeating the Knights 86-80. Lincoln took a 42-26 lead at halftime and never looked back. OCC trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half. The Knights did not quit and fought to make it a four point game late in the game but did not have enough time to pull out a victory.

 

Jordan Mitchell led the Knights with 22 points. John Michael Jarvis added 19 points as OCC freshmen scored 60 of OCC's 80 points. Deonte Johnson and Ason Hacker each added 9 points. Austin Akers chipped in with 8 points.

 

OCC committed a season high 21 turnovers in the defeat. OCC is now 7-4 and will travel to Parkland on Wednesday night



Saturday, December 4
OCC 105 New Horizons 58

OCC pushed their win streak to seven games with a big win over New Horizons Prep. OCC led for the entire 40 minutes. OCC placed six players in double figures. John Michael Jarvis led the Knights with 16 points. Devell Coleman added 15 points and 13 rebounds. Jordan Mitchell added 13 points. PJ Alston had a big game with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Ason Hacker also added 11 points. Deonte Johnson added 6 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

 

OCC will play Lincoln College tonight at 7:30



Wednesday, December 1
Knights Defeat Summit Christian Prep 76-73

The Knights made it six straight wins Tuesday night but found Summit to be as pesky as they were talented. OCC held Summit scoreless until the 15:24 mark of the first half but could only muster a 3-2 lead. Summit would take a 15-9 lead. Jordan Mitchell went on a personal 5-0 run to tie the game at 17 all with 7:43 to play in the first half. OCC went on a 7-0 run to take a 26-19 lead. Ason Hacker drilled a 3 pointer to take a 29-22 lead. Deonte Johnson finished an old fashioned three point play to push OCC to a 32-23 lead. It looked like OCC would push their lead to double digits at the break as John Michael Jarvis was fouled with 23.4 seconds. However, Jarvis went 0-2 at the charity stripe and Summit scored on a possible four point swing to cut the OCC lead to 32-25 at the break.

 

Both teams would catch fire from long range in the 2nd half. OCC pushed their lead to 39-31 and once again looked like it was to pull away but Summit would not go down without a fight. Summit reeled off the next 10 points to take a 41-39 lead. The game would go back and forth the rest of the way with no team ever leading by more than five points. OCC took a 55-50 lead on back to back baskets by Jordan Mitchell. Summit took a 56-55 lead with 8:36 to play. Summit would increase their lead to 65-60 with under seven minutes to play. OCC would score the next five points on a Jarvis' three pointer and on an Akers steal and layup. Summit drilled a 3pointer to take a 73-71 lead with under a minute to play. OCC would answer as Ason Hacker found Austin Akers who once again made a big shot as he drilled a trifecta to give OCC a 74-73 lead with 37.6 to play. OCC would pressure the ensuing possession forcing a turnover leaving Summit to foul on the next few possessiosn to put OCC in the bonus. Jarvis made 2-2 at the line to give OCC a  76-73 lead. Summit missed a trey to tie as Jordan Mitchell secured the carom.

 

Jordan Mitchell led OCC with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Austin Akers added 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Ason Hacker added 14 points on 4-8 shooting from long range. John Michael Jarvis added 11 points all in the 2nd half. Devell Coleman and Deonte Johnson combined for 14 points and 16 rebounds.

 

OCC made 14-32 from long range to improve to 6-3 as they enter the Rotary Classic this weekend.

OCC jumped out to a 17-12 lead with 10:02 to play in first half. OCC did not score again until a basket by Deonte Johnson with 3:54 to play in the first half. Johnson's hoop cut the VU lead to 24-19. Vincennes took a 32-28 lead into halftime.

 

Vincennes pushed their lead to double digits multiple times in the second half. VU led 53-41 with 10:18 to play in the game.OCC cut it to 55-51 before Nick Wiggins drilled a 3pter to push the lead to 58-51. Charles Ahsford made 2-2 fts to give VU a 60-53 lead with 6:09 remaining in the game. Austin Akers connected on a 3 pointer to make it a 60-58 game with 5:12 to play. VU led 62-58 with 3:12 to play. Akers made 1-2 from the line to make it 62-59 following a defensve stop OCC freshman Jordan Mitchell drilled a 3 pointer to tie the game at 62 all with 2:21 to play. Nick Wiggins drilled a long two pointer out of a VU timeout to regain lead. On the ensuing possession Mitchell connected on a shirt pull up to tie the game at 64. VU stretched the lead to 67-64 with 1:14 remaining in regulation. Akers scored on a lyup with 45.5 to play to cut the lead to 67-66. Jordan Hickman connected on a pull up to give VU a 69-66 lead with under 30 secs to play. Ason Hacker missed a 3 pointer but Jeff Hefner got the offensive rebound and found Akers for a 3 pointer to tie the game at 69 all with 12.5 secs to go. Vincennes missed a shot, Akers got the rebound and found an open Hefner who had a chance to win the game but was tied up for a jump ball as the horn sounded.

 

The game went into overtime where OCC got on the board first with 1-2 fts by Akers to give OCC their first lead since the 6 minute mark of the first half. Jordan Hickman answered for VU with another short pull up to give VU a 71-70 lead. John Michale Jarvis answered with an old fashion 3 point play to give OCC a 73-71 lead with 4:07 left in overtime. Tyrell Edwards then made 2 at the charity stripe to tie the game at 73 all. Ason Hacker was fouled and made 1-2 at the line to give OCC a 74-73 lead with 3:39. OCC's next possession Hefner was fouled and made both shots at the line to give OCC a 76-73 lead with 3:23 remaining in ot. Hickman found the bottom of the net again this time as the shot clock expired to make it a 76-75 OCC lead. OCC came up empty on the next trip. Tyrell Edwards was fouled with 1:13 to play...he made both free throw shots to give VU a 77-76 lead with 1:13 to play. OCC answered with Austin Akers making 2-2 at the line to give OCC a 78-77 lead with 1:03 to play. Vincennes turned it over with 28.7 seconds to play. Akers was fouled and made 1-2 free throws to give OCC a 79-77 lead. OCC got a huge stop and Jarvis was fouled. Jarvis made both free throws to ice the game at 81-77

 

OCC is now 5-3 and on a 5 game win strea. VU drops to 6-3

Monday, November 22
Knights Defeat Southwest Academy 96-46

The Blue Knights came out and took care of Southwest Academy Saturday afternoon in the second day of the White Squirrel Classic. OCC defeated SWA 96-46. OCC jumped out to a 9-0 lead two minutes into the game and never looked back. OCC led 49-13 at halftime. All 12 players scored for the Blue Knights in the win.

 

Stefon Collins and Jordan Mitchell led OCC with 14 points each. Ason Hacker made all five of his field goals and added 13 points. Austin Akers and Chase Brinkley each chipped in with 10 points.

 

Devell Coleman added 6 points and 14 rebounds. The Knights are now 4-3 on the year and will ride a 4 game win streak into this Saturday's home game versus Vincennes University.



Saturday, November 20
OCC Beats Greenville JV 86-55

The Blue Knights won their first game in the 2010 White Squirrel Classic in grand fashion by beating Greenville College 86-55. OCC placed five guys in double figures. John Michael Jarvis led the Knights with 14 points and 3 steals. Stefon Collins added 13 points and 4 rebounds. Austin Akers chipped in with 13 points and 5 assists. Chase Brinkley and PJ Alston each added 12 points.

 

The Knights have won three games in a row and are now 3-3 on the season.



Friday, November 19
Knights Return Home!

After a 2-3 start with four games being on the road the Knights return to Olney! They will play in the White Squirrel Classic on Nov 19-20 versus Greenville College and Southwest Academy. Vincennes will be the 4th team in the classic.

 

The Knights are coming off a 70-69 defeat to the #1 ranked Lincoln College and wins over highly regarded Allegany College and Mineral Area. The Knights have looked much better since their loss at #20 Vincennes on Nov 6.
