The Olive Branch High School Weight Room underwent a major renovation in early Spring of 2007. The funds raised for the renovation project and purchase of equipment were made possible through combined efforts of the football players, the Football Letterman's Club, the Football Booster Club, parents, the community, fans and supporters of OBHS football.
The football team raised money by holding a "Lift-a-Thon", the Letterman's Club held a Dinner and auctioned off memorabilia and items of interest as well as sponsored a fishing tournament, while Booster Club members, the community, fans and supporters gave generous donations for the cause. The Letterman's Club also sold engraved gold mini football helmets for $200, to be displayed on the "Wall of Fame" in the hallway outside the weight room. These mini helmets are still available for sale to any former players, managers, staff and/or fans that would like to contribute. Anyone interested in participating in this mini helmet project may contact OBHS Football Letterman Club members Don Dickerson, Tommy Dickerson, Terry Jobe, Jimmy Neal Andrews or Coach Samsel for an application form.
During the course of renovation, new carpet was furnished, the walls were painted in navy blue and gold, all ceiling tiles were replaced and twenty-six weight machines built and installed, complete with Conquistador emblems and logos. These weight machines were designed and built by two former football players, Willy Anderson and Dustin Bobbitt, who were both 1997 OBHS graduates. Anderson played at the fullback position while Bobbitt was a linebacker under Conquistador legendary Head Coach Leslie Pool. If you have not been by the high school to witness their work, it is a first class and prominent facility. Thanks to Willy and Dustin on a job well done.
The high school's formally used weight equipment was relocated to the Olive Branch Middle School to enhance their weight program. The updated OBHS weight room is not only available for the football team but is also open to OBHS athletes of all sports. An open house on Tuesday night, April 10, 2007 of the completed renovation project for the Olive Branch community, fans and supporters was met with an overwelming response.
