Rebels Drop 2 In Boonville

The New York Mills Rebels were unable to come home with a victory after a doubleheader in Boonville Sunday.  The Rebels fell to the Boonville Sluggers 8-5 and the Lowville Bulls 4-0.

In game 1, th Rebels were able to obtain a lead in the 6th inning, but were unable to hold on as poor late game defense did them in again.  Marc Nashton went the distance giving up 7 hits, 6 ER, and 8 walks, while striking out 8 in 6 innings.  Luis Gonzalez led the offense with 3 hits and an RBI.  The Rebels also stole 7 bases as a team.

In game 2, the Rebels ran into some decent pitching and were held to 3 hits, 2 from Jaime Coriale.  Tim Johnston went all 6 innings, even after taking a line drive off his pitching hand in the 4th.  Although it was believed to be a broken bone in his hand at first, he has been diagnosed with a contusion on his hand and will be ready to pitch on Sunday!

Next up for the Rebels will be a doubleheader at New York Mills High School starting at 1:00 PM.  They will face the Utica Angels and Morrisville Hubs respectively.  As always, there is no charge to come watch, hope to see you there!!!  We appreciate your support!!!

Doubleheader Sweep for the Rebels

Sunday proved to be a good day for the Rebels as they were able to win 2 games to improve to 3-6 on the season.  In the first game, the Rebels jumped to an early lead and held on to beat the Utica Angels 7-5.  Marc Nashton pitched a quality 4 1/3 innings to earn the win.  Rob Sweet and Jaime Coriale finished the job on the hill to secure the victory.  Offensively, New York Mills pounded out 10 hits to score those 7 runs.

In game 2, Brandon Meszko went the distance only giving up 8 hits and 2 ER for the 9-2 victory over the Camden Blue Sox.  Nick Garramone had 2 hits and 4 RBI's for the Rebels.  Rob Sweet added 2 hits, including a long double to left center.

Next up for New York Mills is a doubleheader on Sunday, 7/17/11.  This will be in Boonville at the Youth Athletic Association Complex starting at 2:30 PM.  The Rebels will face the Boonville Sluggers and the Lowville Bulls.  Hope to see you there!!!

Rebels Look to Rebound

The New York Mills Rebels will take the field again this weekend coming off a 1-6 start to the season.  There is reason for optimism as 3 of the 6 losses were by only 1 run.  They will play on Sunday at Volunteer Field (Delutis 2) at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM against the Utica Angels and Camden Blue Sox respectively.  With 8 games to play in the regular season, there is still some time to turn things around and improve their standing in the league.  Hope to see you there!!!

Rebels Fall on Opening Weekend

In their first action since August of 2009, the New York Mills Rebels dropped a pair of games this weekend to open the season at 0-2.  Saturday night the Rebels were victims of good pitching, being no-hit by Rome's Aaron Linder in an 11-0 loss.

Sunday brought better play, but the same result.  The Rebels fought hard with the defending MVL champion Morrisville Hubs, but fell short in a 7-6 defeat.  7 different players collected a hit as the Rebels couldn't hold onto a 2 separate leads in the game, helped in part by 4 errors committed by the defense.  Marc Nashton pitched for the first time in 3 years, rejoining the Rebels this season.  He went the distance with 4 ER, 7 H, 4 BB, and 7 K.

The Rebels will continue next week with a Sunday doubleheader at Volunteer Field in Rome against the Utica Angels and the Boonville Sluggers at 3:30 and 6:00 PM respectively.  Admission is free as always and we look forward to seeing you there!!!

WE'RE BACK!!!

After a 1 season hiatus, the New York Mills Rebels will return to the field in the 2011 MVL season.  The Rebels failed to field a team last season due to low numbers, but are back this year with many new faces and the hopes of winning a championship!  The schedule is up and other aspects of the site are currently being updated.  Check back often to catch the latest on the 2011 season!

Rebels End Season With Loss to Bombers

The New York Mills Rebels failed to score a run in their Losers Bracket Final game vs the Rome Bombers falling 10-0.  The Rebels couldn't get anything going against Bombers pitcher Adam Ruszkowski.  Mike Rondenelli led the team with 2 hits.  Mark Bosco took the loss going 4 innings and giving up 5 runs.  The Bombers would go on to win the MVL championship.  Congratulations to them on a fine season!

As for the Rebels, it was a tale of two seasons: the regular season and the post-season.  The regular season brought us just 5 wins in 18 games (5-13).  However, the Rebels picked up their level of play winning their first two playoff games for the 1st time EVER!  Their loss to the Heat in the playoffs was a heart-wrenching one as the whole team felt that they had the game won.  Although the season was a roller coaster type, the playoffs give this team much hope for next season and will definitely raise the expectations of the team from sub-.500 team to title contender.

I would just like to thank everyone who played (including my father and Angelo Wade who helped in a pinch when we needed players!).  I also want to thank all of our supporters who came out week after week despite the sometimes futile play of our team.  I know it can be tough to watch games like that, but you were there anyways.  It is deeply appreciated by me and the rest of the team.

SEE YOU NEXT SEASON!!!
