Season Ends In Losers Bracket Semis

The Rebels season came to an end this past Sunday at Delutis Field before they would have liked it to.  The prior week, they shocked the league and beat up #4 Rome 13-7 before falling to #1 Sherrill 8-1.  This week, it was win or go home for the Rebels.

In the first game, Tim Johnston led the team both on the mound and at the plate as the Rebels defeated the #6 Morrisville Hubs 6-2.  Johnston went 3-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored to help his own cause.  He struck out 7 while giving up 2 runs in the victory.  Tony Eriole also chipped in with 3 hits and an RBI.

In the second game, the pitchers were dueling the whole way.  But the #4 Rome Bombers came out on top 3-1.  Ben Kimball took the loss giving up 3 runs and striking out 7.  Ray Houle led the offense with 2 hits, but the Rebels could not put much together as they could only muster 6 total hits as the season came to an end.

As I can reflect on our season, it was by far the most successful season in franchise history.  Overall record including the playoffs was 11-10.  It was the first time ever finishing above .500.  We had good team chemistry this season and I hope with the return of many key players, we can build on this years success.  I just want to thank all of those who supported us throughout the season.  It means more than you will ever know to me that we have the supporters that we do!  Thanks again and I am already looking forward to next year and the quest for a league championship!!!

Victory Ends Regular Season in Historic Fashion

The New York Mills Rebels came into their season finale bound and determined to finish on a positive note.  Well, they certainly accomplished that as they defeated the NY Wildmen 12-0 in a mercy rule shortened game.  The Rebels (9-8) were led by their ace Ben Kimball (6-1) as he gave up just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 in the 5 innings needed to end the game.  Ben ended the regular season with a franchise record 6 wins and 0.81 ERA.

Offensively, the Rebels pounded out 11 hits; 2 each from Nick Garramone, Jordan Mills, and Randy Irwin.  Irwin also drove in 3 runs and Tim Johnston drove in 4 runs as well.

I am happy to say that this seasons 9-8 record marks the first time in franshise history that the Rebels finish with a record above .500!!!

The Rebels go into the playoffs next week as the #5 seed.  They will play the #4 seeded Rome Bombers (10-8) on Sunday at noon.  The game will be played at RFA Stadium.  Should the Rebels win, they would travel to SUNY IT to take on the winner of the #1 Sherrill/#8 Mohawk Valley game.  If they lose, they stay at RFA and face the loser of that game.  The second game is tenatative as of right now and could change.  The Rebels have played the Bombers twice this year, falling both times by a combined score of 18-1.  The Rebels will try to get some serious revenge for these losses.  Hope to see you next week!!!

Another Split For Rebels

Sunday gave the New York Mills Rebels another doubleheader split.  In game 1, Tim Johnston led the charge on the mound giving up just 1 unearned run in a 3-1 victory over the New York Wildmen.  Johnston (2-2) gave up 6 hits while striking out 7.  Offensively, 6 different Rebels collected a hit each while the 3 runs were driven in by Johnston, Luis Gonzalez, and Brett Fortnam.

Game 2 brought us an error filled game as the Rebels fell to the Utica Angels 15-4.  Ben Kimball (5-1) got his first loss of the season as the hard luck guy on the mound.  The Rebels committed 12 errors, which allowed 12 of the 15 Angels runs to be unearned.  On the offensive side, Brian Lemmo led the Rebels with 2 of their 3 hits in the game.

Next Sunday will be the season finale for the Rebels (8-8).  They will play the New York Wildmen at 5:30 PM at Delutis Field.  Should the Rebels win, it will clinch the first ever winning regular season in franchise history!  As always, there is no admission so come out and support your team!!!  See you there!!!

Rebels Even Record, Defeat Blazers

Well fans, the rain just couldn't stop the good play of your New York Mills Rebels. The Rebels took down the first place Sherrill Blazers 4-1 at SUNY IT. Ben Kimball (5-0) went the distance giving up just 1 unearned run on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 12. All of the Rebels offense came in the 2nd inning. Nick Garramone drove in a run with a two-out single. Then after Tony Eriole drew a walk, Jordan Mills smashed a 3-run, 350 ft home run over the left field wall. Those runs were plenty of support of Kimball.

Next week the Rebels will play a doubleheader at New York Mills High School. They will play against the NY Wildmen at 11:00 AM and the Utica Angels at 2:00 PM. As always, there is no admission so we hope to see you there!!!

Rebels Split Again

This week afforded yet another doubleheader split. In the first game, the Rebels pounded out 17 hits on their way to a 7-0 victory over the Lowville Bulls. Ben Kimball (4-0) threw 6 shutout innings giving up just 3 hits with 8 strikeouts to earn the victory. Randy Irwin and Tim Johnston had 3 hits each for the Rebels. Adding 2 hits each were Rick Nasci, Nick Garramone, Luis Gonzalez, Jordan Mills, and Raymond Houle.

In game 2, one bad inning hurt the Rebels as they fell to the Morrisville Hubs 13-6. Jordan Mills (0-3) took the loss going just 2+ innings. The Rebels gave up 11 runs in the 3rd inning to place them in a hole too deep to come out of. Nick Houle led the Rebels offense with 2 hits including a double.

This week the Rebels (6-7) play 1 game at SUNY IT at noon. They will play the first place Sherrill Blazers and try to avenge a 15-1 loss in the Dan LaGasse Memorial Day Tournament. As always, there is no admission, so come on out and support the team as they try to get back to .500 for the season!!!

Rebels Beat Mustangs

In a very tight pitchers duel, the New York Mills Rebels managed to pull out a victory vs the Mohawk Valley Mustangs 3-2.  Ben Kimball (3-0) went the distance giving up 2 runs and striking out 7.  Luis Gonzalez led the Rebels with 2 hits and scored 2 runs.  The Rebels led 2-0 until the 6th when the Mustangs scrapped out 2 runs to tie the game.  But in the top of the 7th, the Rebels hitters worked their way on and Jordan Mills walked with the bases loaded to give the Rebels the lead for good.

Next up for the Rebels (5-6) is a doubleheader in Lowville vs the Lowville Bulls at 11:00 AM and vs the Morrisville Hubs right after.  This is on Sunday 7/7/12.  As always, there is no admission so we would love to see you there!!!
