Rebels Sweep Doubleheader

The New York Mills Rebels opened the season with a doubleheader sweep with past Sunday. It is the first time in team history they have started 2-0.

In game 1 vs the Rome Bombers, pitcher Ben Kimball (1-0) was absolutely dealing all game long. The Rebels were able to scratch out 1 run in the 5th when Marc Nashton doubled to left center and was then driven in by one of Rick Nasci's two hits. That would be all the support Kimball needed as he went on the pitch the first no-hitter in Rebels history, winning 1-0. He would end up striking out 12 while walking and hitting 1 batter each. The Rebels also got a hit from Justin Stevener.

Game 2 brought an 8-4 victory over the Morrisville Hubs. Brett Fortnam had 2 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI for the Rebels. Nick Garramone added a hit and 2 RBI's and Sam Nasci added a hit and an RBI. Tim Johnston (1-0) threw the complete game giving up 3 ER and 1 BB while striking out 10.

Next up for the Rebels will be a doubleheader on Sunday, 6/2/13. They first will take on defending league champion Sherrill Blazers at 12:00 PM at RFA Stadium. They then will shift venues and play the Utica Angels at Legacy Field (Griffiss #4) at 3:00 PM. See you there!!!

Season Ends In Losers Bracket Semis

The Rebels season came to an end this past Sunday at Delutis Field before they would have liked it to.  The prior week, they shocked the league and beat up #4 Rome 13-7 before falling to #1 Sherrill 8-1.  This week, it was win or go home for the Rebels.

In the first game, Tim Johnston led the team both on the mound and at the plate as the Rebels defeated the #6 Morrisville Hubs 6-2.  Johnston went 3-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored to help his own cause.  He struck out 7 while giving up 2 runs in the victory.  Tony Eriole also chipped in with 3 hits and an RBI.

In the second game, the pitchers were dueling the whole way.  But the #4 Rome Bombers came out on top 3-1.  Ben Kimball took the loss giving up 3 runs and striking out 7.  Ray Houle led the offense with 2 hits, but the Rebels could not put much together as they could only muster 6 total hits as the season came to an end.

As I can reflect on our season, it was by far the most successful season in franchise history.  Overall record including the playoffs was 11-10.  It was the first time ever finishing above .500.  We had good team chemistry this season and I hope with the return of many key players, we can build on this years success.  I just want to thank all of those who supported us throughout the season.  It means more than you will ever know to me that we have the supporters that we do!  Thanks again and I am already looking forward to next year and the quest for a league championship!!!
