NVYSL Competitive Playing Divisions
The league forms teams which provide three distinct levels of play, following the guidelines of CYSA. These levels of play are competitive (Division 1 and Division 3) and recreational (Division 4) These are also known as Class 1, Class 3, and Class 4.
"Competitive" team players are required to "try out" for teams and be invited by the coach to join these teams. Player tryouts are conducted each year. With each higher level of competitive play, players usually possess a stronger combination of natural athletic ability, motivation, and experience together with parents willing to make a greater commitment in time and money. In addition, competitive teams do not guarantee playing time, as the recreational leagues do.
Division 3 Boys and Girls
Division 3 (sometimes called Class 3 or "advanced") competitive teams are selected via tryouts in April and May. These teams form a competitive program which is designed for those players who have a greater interest and commitment in advancing their skills. These players compete in leagues that may involve traveling to areas outside their league of registration and may participate in one or more tournaments. The Association Cup is a CYSA-North tournament in which District 2 participates. Teams are formed for one-year age groupings starting with Under 9 through Under 18. About 65% of North Valley's competitive teams are in Division 3. Division 3 teams play in the Delgado League.
*Coaches are expected to be “E” or higher licensed
*No guarantee of playing time.
*Travel is involved, normally within the district
*Many teams play fall and spring
*Somewhat greater parental commitment in time and money

Division 1 Boys and Girls
Division 1 (sometimes called Class 1 or "select") competitive level teams are single age group teams (age pure) from Under 11 thru Under 18 and form teams in March and April by league-wide tryouts. The Division 1 program is North Valley's highest competitive soccer level and is designed for those players who have an even greater interest and commitment in both advancement and tuning of their skills. Their teams may compete with teams a greater distance away, and may also participate in state, regional, and national tournaments. Division 1 teams play in the Abronzino League.
*Coaches are often “D” or higher licensed
*No guarantee of playing time
*More travel can be expected to find this level of competition
*More parental commitment in time and money

Olympic Development Program (ODP) Boys and Girls
There is another even higher skilled opportunity – the “Olympic Development Program” or ODP. This is open for tryout to all players, provides the ultimate experience and training for these selected players. Those players who are selected for this program, compete against players from other districts within CYSA ultimately leading to the selection of state, regional and national youth teams. NV Milpitas Stealth Wins First Round of Association Cup
For the second straight year, the North Valley Milpitas Stealth U13 boys soccer team has advanced to the second round of the statewide CYSA Association Cup competitive tournament. After completing the first round in Fremont, the team advances to the "Elite 8", facing their next opponent in Morgan Hill on January 13.
