BERRY AND KNOWLES NAMED TO ODP NATIONAL SELECT TEAM

Two Majestics Honored at Super Y-League ODP Combine February 23, 2009

TAMPA, FL – The United Soccer Leagues announced today the Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camp ’92, ’93, and ‘94/’95 Select Girls Teams.  Northern Virginia Majestics Autumn Berry and Logan Knowles were named to the elite ODP Select Team rosters for their exceptional performance during the four-day event.

Knowles, a member of the U16 Majestics, earned a spot on the prestigious ’92 roster as a defender while Northern Virginia’s Berry (U14 Majestics) garnered accolades on the ‘94/’95 list as a midfielder.  United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League (SYL) ODP National Camps for their ‘92-’95 girls wrapped up yesterday at Ed Radice Sports Complex in northwest Tampa, Florida. The final day of the event consisted of one final match, the SYL ODP National Camp All-Star game for each of the three age divisions.  In addition to Berry and Knowles, Northern Virginia Majestics Meghan Cox (U14 Majestics), Myranda Emery (U15 Majestics), and Eryn Hurley (U17 Majestics) also were selected to their respective All Star matches. After all the SYL ODP matches were complete, the coaches met for one final time to produce the 2009 Super Y-League ODP National Camp Select Team rosters for the three age divisions.  The Select Team rosters represent the top ODP National Camp players, listed by position, for each age group.  Over the course of the 2008 season, the top players in the USL Super Y-League were selected by the ODP Scouting System to attend this SYL ODP National Camp. During the intense four-day combine, players were evaluated by ODP Staff Coaches before the most elite athletes were named to the SYL Select Team. During this time, the players were exposed to the demands involved in competing at the highest levels of the game.

Northern Virginia Football Club, comprised of both the Northern Virginia Royals (male) and Northern Virginia Majestics (female) USL teams, is represented by the club record of both thirty-two players in SYL ODP Camp pool and five teams in the 2008 North American Finals. Nineteen players from the Royals and thirteen players from the Majestics Super Y-League programs comprise Northern Virginia’s representation.

FORMER YOUNGSTER RIVALS BEGIN ODP NATIONAL CAMP Majestics Berry and Cox Join Seven Other Northern Virginia Girls

February 19, 2009

TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues opened the Super Y-League’s (SYL) Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camp today at Ed Radice Sports Complex in Tampa, Florida.  The Northern Virginia Majestics are well represented on the elite chosen with nine attendees, including two U13 players that started as adversaries at a very young age.   No strangers to competition, Majestics Autumn Berry and Meghan Cox began their soccer careers on opposite sides of the pitch at age four.  Although Cox holds Majestics veteran status over Berry by two seasons, the pair became teammates and close friends in 2005 when Berry moved to the NVSC Jr. Majestics 94 from a rival club.  The duo was selected to the National Camp after completing the 2008 season on the U13 Majestics, their second in Super Y-League after they both played up the previous year.  Joining Berry and Cox at SYL ODP National Camp, Northern Virginia players Jeannine Molleda (U14 Majestics) Myranda Emery (U15 Majestics), and Logan Knowles (U16 Majestics) earned honors for each of their previous season’s play.  Christina Anderson enters camp in her fifth year in the Super Y-League, including two National Finals appearances on the U13 Majestics in 2005 and 2006.  Northern Virginia ODP Camp attendees Ellie Mills, Eryn Hurley, and Denesha Soto are in Tampa for the second time in four months, reaching the semifinals of the SYL North American Finals last November on the U17 Majestics. Selections from the 2008 season were made from the identification system by the Super Y-League National ODP Scouting Staff. The selection process was then finalized by the ODP Staff Coaches, and assembled by the USL office.
