Welcome to the Napa Valley Soccer Club!

As a program within the Napa Youth Soccer League (NYSL), the Club serves as a home for talented and dedicated youth soccer players to compete in competitive traveling (also known as select) soccer. The NVSC program is designed to provide opportunities for players to excel technically and tactically as individuals and within a team. Teams are formed from the Under-10 age group up to the Under-19 age group. In the U-11 level and up, full 11-a-side teams are formed for league play and tournaments in both Division 1 and Division 3 competitive divisions. The primary goal of the NVSC program is player development.

Napa United Girls U16

The team won the Nor Cal State Cup championship on Sunday, May 5th!

The Napa Valley Soccer Club’s United U-16 girls beat Modesto Ajax Elite 3-0 on Sunday to win the first State Cup title in Napa Valley soccer history.

United put the pressure on from the outset, controlling play and jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute when Krista Carillo sent the ball to Kathryn Johnson, who released a soft one-touch kick over the opposing goalkeeper’s head and into the upper right corner of the net.

United kept the ball in Modesto’s end and was rewarded again in the 10th minute of the first half. Sarah Tracy’s initial corner kick from the left was deflected out by Ajax Elite, resulting in a second corner. Midfielder Meghan Perrin delivered an exquisite cross from the same side that sweeper Joy Hopkins headed perfectly into the net from eight yards out, doubling United’s lead.

Twenty minutes in, Tracy sent another corner in from the right side that an Ajax Elite player, under considerable pressure, headed in for an own-goal that built United’s lead to 3-0.

Toward the end of the first half, United goalkeeper Marisa Bergin made an outstanding save in a one-on-one situation to preserve Napa’s shutout going into halftime.

In the second half, United stayed on the attack. A blistering shot by Alina Martinez from 40 yards out was denied when it hit the crossbar 10 minutes into the half. Napa continued its dominance with strong, precise passing plays from midfielders Samantha Schwandt, Daisha Paringit and Jessica Douma as well as forwards Bailey Kiser, Kelsea McIver and Claudia Torkelson.

United’s defense was impeccable throughout the tournament and particularly outstanding in the final match, led by Bergin, Hopkins, center back Niko Baila, and outside backs Camille Castro, Amanda Neidlinger and Korinne Wallace.

United finished the year 29-4-3, with the NorCal State Cup championship capping a season in which they also captured the CCSL and NorCal Premier Fall League titles. In addition, United won the Davis Legacy Showcase and the Napa Valley Wine Classic.

With its latest title, Napa is guaranteed a berth in the U.S. National Club Championships, to be held in Chicago in July. United also qualifies for the prestigious Surf Cup in San Diego, which will be played over Thanksgiving.

United goalkeeper coach Cornell Baila praised the play of keeper Bergin, who was instrumental in the team’s success. “Marisa has worked extremely hard,” Cornell said, “to position herself as one of the top goalkeepers in all of northern California. We’re thrilled with her progress and with her many contributions to the team’s play, not just in this tournament but all year.”

United coach and trainer Rob Kusel was effusive about his team’s effort, saying, “I couldn’t be happier about the way our team played today. This was truly a team effort, and our execution was almost clinical. These girls put on a performance that Napa can be truly proud of.”
