NV Soccer Club Bolts capture U13 girls title at Breakers Cup

The Napa Valley Soccer Club Bolts captured the championship at the 11th annual Santa Cruz Breakers Cup in the U13 girls Silver Division. The team played its games at UC Santa Cruz with two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday. The Bolts won all four games with a total of 10 goals scored and no goals allowed.

The Bolts opened play Saturday morning with a 6-0 win over the Los Gatos Bobcats. Hannah Williams and Cailin LeTourneau each scored two goals while Julianna Moreno and Madeline Beitz scored goals as well in this opening match. Strong midfield play was provided by Alaina Housley with solid defensive work provided by Rachel Weston.

In the afternoon game, the Bolts defeated the Pleasant Hill-Martinez Heritage Nighthawks 1-0. The lone goal was scored by Cailin LeTourneau on a beautiful assist from Julianna Moreno. Jessica Schreuder was strong in the goal with several game-saving stops. Excellent defensive play was provided by Libby Hatton with strong midfield work by Carlyn Bacci.

On Sunday morning, the Bolts won 2-0 over the Danville Mustang Fury to secure their place in the championship match. The goals were scored by Katie Myhre and Julianna Moreno. Anie Ilsley was a defensive standout with tireless midfield work by Kayla de Leuze, who also provided the assist on the first goal.

In the final match, the Bolts won a hard fought game, 1-0 over the San Mateo Gryphons. The winning goal was scored by Julianna Moreno on an assist from Ileana Souza Puente. Jessica Schreuder once again provided excellent goalkeeping with strong field play from Peyton Troendly and Hannah Williams.

At the presentation ceremony, coach Chad LeTourneau and team manager Glenn Schreuder graciously accepted the 2012 Breakers Cup with each girl receiving individual first-place medals.

The U13 Bolts will advance to the Gold Division of competition in the fall following two successful seasons in the Silver Division.

“Our U13 girls are learning to work hard and apply themselves,” Napa Valley Soccer Club president Arik Housley said. “They are starting to see the results of their sincere efforts. On behalf of the board of directors of both the Napa Valley Soccer Club and its parent organization the Napa Youth Soccer League, we congratulate the Bolts for their hard fought victory.”
