2008 10U Firebirds Continued Success

The 10U NVGSA Firebirds continue to have great success in 2008 in what is now their first full year after being reformed following a 3 year absence from select/travel softball.  They are currently 16 and 2 in the spring/summer FCGSL Metro League to include big wins over perennial favorites: the SYA Xplosion, the McLean Mystics and the Mt. Vernon Magic.  Recent games include a no hitter as well as an unbelievable comeback with two outs in the bottom of the last inning.  Furthermore, the 10U Firebirds recently took second place in the Faquier Freeze Summer Ice Down Softball Tournament in Warrenton, VA and third place in the NSA Cash Bash Softball Tournament in Richmond, VA.  Earlier this year the National Softball Association ranked the 10U Firebirds tenth in the state of Virginia.  Anyone wanting additional information to include current openings and tryouts regarding the 10U Firebird 2008 summer season and/or the upcoming fall season should contact 10U Firebirds Co-Head Coach Randy Yates at yatesmmf@aol.com

12U All-Stars Win 2008 FCGSL House All-Star Tournament

On June 15, 2008, the 12U NVGSA House All-Star Team won the 2008 FCGSL House All-Star Tournament played at Wakefield Park.  The team was made up of All-stars from the Silver Storm, Orange Crush, Irish Ladies, Glory and Fireballs.  The team went undefeated through the two day tournament beating All-Star Teams from Vienna (7 to 3), Ashburn (8 to 1), Fort Hunt (5 - 4) and Chantilly in the Championship game (15 - 4).  The four victories were nothing short of a total team effort with all 13 players contributing in the wins with timely hitting, great defense and awesome pitching by 4 different pitchers.  It is the first championship in the FCGSL House All-Star Tournament for a NVGSA team of any age group within recent memory.  Below is a team picture of the 2008 12U FCGSL House All-Star Championship team from NVGSA!
