Coaching at the YMCA

Coaching at the Northshore YMCA is not about developing a winning team. It is about developing a winning child. We do not keep score and we do not stress WIN. We do stress team work and individual development. We also stress sportsmanship and most of all FUN!  Volunteer coaches are the heart and soul of our league. It is the coach that has the most contact with the players, and it is the coach that will help the children form their opinions of soccer and sports in general. It is an awesome responsibility, but incredibly rewarding.

Make it Fun. Enjoy the Ride.
Your success as a coach in this league is not measured by number of goals, but measured by how much fun your players have, and if they want to come back and play the next season. I will be adding links that will contain information of interest to our coaches. The Coach's Resources links will contain documents and websites that have helped other coaches. If you would like to contribute your thoughts, if you find some good resources you would like to share or you would like more information on how you can become involved, please let us know @

Thanks again for volunteering your time and effort for our kids.

Coaches Wanted - No Experience Necessary!

We need you!

Coaching soccer is a great way to get involved with your kids. Best of all, no experience is necessary. As a matter of fact, with the 3 - 8 year old kids, some of our best coaches are those that know little to nothing about soccer. If you've never coached or played soccer, you might have an advantage over people that have. Experienced players have a vision in their mind of how the game is to be played. Many of them can have problems bringing it down to the level of a young child. On the other hand, a parent who understands children will usually be a very successful coach, because they have no expectations of what these kids can do in relation to soccer. They go out, play a few games, kick the ball around, joke with the kids, and just have a good time.

You Can Do It!

The YMCA appreciates our coaches, and we will do everything we can to assist you and make it a positive experience. We can help you through your first practice and answer any questions you might have as the season go on.

Rain/Weather Policy
The Northshore YMCA will not cancel a practice or game due to rain. Coaches do however have the option to cancel the practice themselves. The reason for this is that at a time when we will have to make a decision about cancellation, it may be raining, but when it is time for practice, the weather could be vastly different.
In the case of thunder and lightning, coaches will clear the field immediately and all practices will be postpones/canceled.
