Like many youth sports programs, volunteer coaches lead players through drills and games that build skills, develop coordination and enhance a love of the game. But what makes us special is our philosophy. We make sure everyone participates. The YMCA Youth Sports philosophy is based on equal participation, fun, skill development, physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, family involvement and volunteer leadership.
All YMCA Youth Sports programs emphasize the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, faith and FUN while focusing on three key elements:
Quality: From training for coaches to top-notch facilities and game management, the Y’s sports leagues are committed to providing a positive and quality experience for everyone.
Skill development: An emphasis on teaching, adequate practice facilities and balanced competition foster an ideal environment for Youth Sports participants to learn and develop their athletic skills.
Character building: By stressing teamwork and a zero-tolerance policy for those who fail to uphold the Y’s core values, our sports leagues help teach youth how to be both good sports and good citizens.
At the YMCA, what happens off the field is just as important as what happens on the field.
Sports seasons, camps and clinics are offered throughout the year for ages three through 12th grade. Practices usually are one night per week at various locations; games are held on weekends (unless otherwise noted). Note each sport for dates. Volunteer coaches are needed for all of the sports leagues.
