North Suburban Youth Football League makes character education top priority for parents of student-athletes
Over 1,000 parents expected to attend Champions of Character event on Saturday, August 19th

- Staci Schottman, NAIA
Olathe, Kan. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the North Suburban Youth Football League (NSYFL) will host a Champions of Character parent presentation on Saturday, August 19, 2006, at St. Pius X High School football stadium from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. (CT) in Kansas City, Mo. Over 1,000 NSYFL parents of flag football, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade student-athletes are invited to attend this character education event. Some teams are requiring that parents attend. NAIA Director of Champions of Character Initiatives Rob Miller who travels the country talking to parents on their role in sport will lead the discussion.
“The more a parent learns about what we are really there for, especially young parents, the more it will sink in and the faster we will get rid of the winning is everything attitude,” said President of the Giants Youth Football Club and Coach Ben Cardello. “Youth sports are not strictly to learn sports and should be more than just winning. It should be about friendship and learning life skills.”
Miller’s message will be straightforward and share ways parents can help their child’s athletic performance and develop a lifelong love for sports. The Champions of Character program trains parents to know the right thing, do the right things and value the right thing so actions are appropriate and support the child’s athletic experience.
For any questions regarding this event contact Staci Schottman in the NAIA Champions of Character Media Relations Department at sschottman@naia.org or 913-791-0044 ext. 112.
