Dry Win 18th NSSBL Title

 

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry capture their 18th NSSBL Championship in their 26 year existence. Stellar pitching performance from Jeff Reeves who picks up his 4th win of the playoffs. Some timely hitting and great defense, carried the Dry to victory. The Dry have won the honor of representing N.S. at next years National Championships to be held in Fredericton, N.B. in late August.

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry are one win away from their 18th NSSBL title after a 5-2 victory. Jeff Reeves was stellar on the mound pitching into the ninth inning. Game 4 is Friday night at the TAAC Grounds in Truro.

JAKE PELHAM HALIFAX: Fourth in league batting with an average of .421. Tied for first in hits with 45. Second in runs scored with 32. Leader in triples with 3.

GARY MACDONALD MEMORIAL AWARD. GOLD GLOVE AND GOLD BAT AWARD FOR MOST PLAYER OF THE GAME SELECTIONS: CODEY SHRIDER KENTVILLE At bat, he had 25 hits in 81 at bats for an average of .309. On the mound, he had 3 wins and a single loss and led the league in strike outs with 64.

Dry and Bearcats Get Started Thursday Night
The first game of the NSSBL final will be Thursday night 7:30pm at Beazley Field as the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry host the Truro Bearcats. 

The Dry  finished second in the regular season and defeated Halifax in four games in the best of 5 semi final series
The Bearcats defeated the first place Sydney Sooners in extra innings of game 5 on the weekend. 
The Dry won the season series 6-1

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry have advanced to the finals to face the Truro Bearcats after eliminating the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians 11-1 at the Mainland Common.  Chris Gallivan doubled, singled and knocked in a pair while Dan Comeau had three singles to lead the Dry offence.  Chris Head plated two runs with a single while Greg West and Matt Fay each drove in a run with a single with Matt Harding and Billy Hartley singling twice.  Cam Marling was sterling on the bump allowing 8 hits to earn the win.  Mark Pelham singled and knocked in the lone Canadians' run.  Connor Sullivan singled twice while Pat Gilbert, Paul Davie, Shawn Peverill, Shawn Walsh and Steve Murphy all singled.  Dartmouth takes the series 3-1.  



Saturday, September 5
Bearcats Win Game 5 in Extra Innings

 Truro Bearcats scored a 12th inning win in game five of the best of five NSSBL semi final, defeating the Sydney Sooners, 8-7.

Sooners had won the earlier game of the day by a score of 6-4 to force the fifth and deciding game.

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry received a brilliant pitching performance from Jeff Reeves who fired a three-hitter on the way to a 7-0 shutout of the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians at the Mainland Common.  Greg West drove in a pair with two singles and Matt Doudelet knocked in one with a double and a single.  Justin Stephens lined three singles with an RBI while Dan Comeau also had three singles.  Reeves was masterful through the 8th inning fanning 7.   The Dry now take a 2-0 lead in the best of five semi-final series and look for a sweep Thursday evening at Beazley Field.  Gametime is 7:00pm.

Bearcats Take 1-0 Series Lead

The Truro Bearcats fell behind early and John Chapman settled in to shutdown the Sooners. Jeff Chisholm hit a solo home run in the 8th inning to give the Bearcats the 1-0 series lead. Game 2 is Saturday afternoon at 1pm in Truro. The other series between Halifax and Dartmouth gets underway Sunday night 7pm at Beazley Field.

Pelham Canadians Pound Bearcats

The Halifax Pelham Canadians bats came alive last night and scored a 14-0 rain shortened win over Truro. The win means Halifax will open up the playoffs versus the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry. The Bearcats will host the Sydney Sooners this weekend at the TAAC Groumds.

Bearcats and Pelham Canadians Play One Game to Decide 3rd
The Halifax Pelham Canadians and the Truro Bearcats will play a make-up game tonight to determine 3rd spot in the NSSBL.Truro is a game behind Halifax but has won the season series. The Bearcats lost in Kentville 14-4 and the Pelham Canadians lost the remainder of a suspended game and lost a make up game 4-2 to the Dry. The loser tonight will host 1st place Sydney Sooners this weekend. The winner will play the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry Sunday Night at Beazley Field.

Wildcats Win on Pat Macleod's Night

The Kentville Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat Dartmouth. David McIntyre had 3 hits and knocked in the winning run. Codey Shrider was strong again for the Wildcats striking out 11 in a complete game. Prior to the game the Wildcats honoured Pat MacLeod by retiring his #22 jersey. The Wildcats close out their regular season at home tonight versus Truro. The Bearcats can still catch the Pelham Canadians who complete a suspended game with the Dry and then play another game tonight. The magic number for Halifax to finish 3rd is 2.

Wildcats Beat Pelham Canadians
The Kentville Wildcats defeated the Halifax Pelham Canadians 9-2 at Memorial Park. Alex Ostrov picked up the win and Ian Lockhart had 3 hits and Colby Turple had a single, double and two RBI. The Canadians are in action tomorrow as they host Truro at 1pm at Mainland Common, both teams are still battling for 3rd place in the standings.

Friday, August 21
Sooners Lose to BC in Morning Action

The Sydney Sooners have a 1-1 record after a 7-3  loss this morning to BC (2-0). Chris Head hit a 2 run homer and added a single, Jordan Shepherd and Corey Christie had two hits apeice. Nate Brewer picked up the loss after failing to get out of the 3rd inning. The Sooners made it interesting by loading the bases in the top of the 7th but could not capitalize.

The Sooners lost the night cap in extra innings to Chatham. They face a must win this afternoon versus Alberta.

The Dartmouth Moosehead Dry got out of the gate quickly putting up six runs and sending eleven men to the plate in the 1st inning en route to a 10-5 win in Halifax on a balmy night at the Mainland Common.  Chris Head led the way with four singles while Dan Comeau doubled and singled knocking in a pair.  Chris Gallivan also knocked in two with two singles and Billy Hartley singled twice as well.  Pat Gilbert tripled and singled twice, Jake Pelham drove in two runs with a single and sacrifice fly while Steve Murphy drove in two with a pair of sacrifice flies.  Shawn Walsh and Josh Pelham each singled twice.  Righthander, Jeff Reeves was solid in working eight innings for the win while Mark Haverstock took the loss.

Veteran righthander, Craig Higgins retuned to Halifax with the Truro Bearcats and fired three solid innings as his mates jumped out to an early lead before holding on to edge the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians 7-6 at the Mainland Common.  Guy Pellerine stroked a two-run single in the 3rd and Jeff Chisholm knocked in a pair on the night to spark the Bearcats' offense.  Paul Davie drove home two Canadians while Jake Pelham, Steve Murphy, Connor Sullivan and Greg MacKinnon knocked in a runner each.  John Chapman earned the win in relief of Higgins who tired in the 4th while  Craig Field took the loss for Halifax.

Righthander, Craig Field was dominating in holding the powerful Moosehead Dry to a single as the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians defeated Dartmouth 7-0 in a game which was shortened by fog after 5 and a half innings. The Canadians got out of the gate quickly as they scored a pair on four hits in the 1st inning. Dartmouth starter, Liam Logan held them in check over the next three innings before Halifax got to him for five runs in the 5th. Halifax sent eleven men to the plate with Shawn Peverill blasting a two-run homer and Connor Sullivan lining a two-run double. Mark Phillips had the lone hit for Dartmouth.

In a wild one at the Mainland Common, the Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians outslugged the Kentville Wildcats 18-13 in a game where there was 37 hits.  Each Halifax hitter had at least one hit but Aaron Ferguson was a homerun shy of the cycle and knocked in 5 runs to lead the Molson Canadians.  Paul Davie knocked in 3 with a double and three singles, while Pat Gilbert doubled with three singles and 2RBI.  Shawn Peverill also doubled, ripped three singles knocking in two, while Jake Pelham tripled and singled twice knocking in a pair.  Cody Shrider belted a homer and two doubles, knocking in three for the Wildcats while Mike Lockhart doubled twice, singled and knocked in three.  Colby Turple singled twice with 2RBI.  Brandon MacKinnon earned the win in relief of Kyle Donovan and Mark Haverstock while Joey Cavadini suffered the loss in relief of David McIntye.
