Girls Just Want to Have Fun
TWO WILDCATS GIRLS PLAYERS WIN PAHL SCHOLARSHIPS
The Wildcats congratulate our TWO PAHL Scholarship winners this season – both members of our Girls U19 team. Allison Steinheiser and Becca Faherty were among 6 PAHL players to win $1,000 scholarships from a record number of applicants.
Allison began her hockey career in the 2003-2004 season as a member of our first ever Wildcats U12 Girls team. She is one of two girls with the longest tenure as a member of a Wildcats Girls team. Allison was always one of our hardest working athletes, and improved steadily over her career to evolve into one of the top PAHL girls players. She has served as assistant captain and captain of our teams through the years, and was a co-captain of our 08-09 team. Allison also served as a volunteer coach for our U12 team last year, and has always assisted with our PBN program. In her final Wildcats game, Alli scored the winning goal in a shootout to earn the Wildcats the U19 Championship in the prestigious Pony Tail Tournament. Allison will attend California University of PA next fall, and plans to tryout for their club girls hockey team.
Becca began playing hockey in the winter of her sophomore year by participating in HDP, as well as practices and scrimmages with our U14 team. Becca played on the U19 team for her Junior & Senior years. Despite being a relatively new skater, she always worked hard, and made significant contributions to the team both on the ice and in the locker room. Becca served as an assistant captain of our 08-09 team. I had the privilege of serving as Becca's Mentor for her Seneca Valley H.S. Senior Project. Becca so appreciated the opportunity to play hockey with the Wildcats with such a "late start" that she wanted to "give back" to the association by working with me to run our PBN and LTP for Girls programs. She was a valuable assistant, and put together a significant Senior Project Portfolio, which she presented this week. I'm sure she'll pass with flying colors. Becca will attend St. Francis University in the fall.
Allison and Becca provide great examples of all of the right reasons that children participate in youth sports, and have represented the Wildcats well. Congratulations to both on their scholarships, as well as their academic and athletic accomplishments.
