Squires Awarded $10,000 PA State Grant
State Grant
In 2008, State Senator Stewart Greenleaf has again sponsored the North Penn Athletic Association for a $10,000 grant from the State of Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant, which was received in November 2008, was requested in May 2008.  The money is earmarked for additional Squires building improvements which rounds out our three-phased improvement plan started in 2005.  Senator Greenleaf presented the check at the Cameron Fieldhouse dedication ceremony on November 8th.  Senator Greenleaf noted that he enjoys sponsoring these grants because they allow non-profits three or four-fold improvements since organizations like the Squires can multiply the benefits through "sweat equity."   Thanks to Senator Greenleaf, who was presented with a Squires pullover jacket and declared a "North Penn Squire for life" by President Tom Rinck.

Celebrating 35 Years of Dedication
1974 Team Photo 3
In 2008, the North Penn Athletic Association will have a year-long celebration of 35 years of dedication to the youth of the North Penn area.  The NPAA was established in 1972 and incorporated in 1973.  We will be celebrating our past as we also focus on our future.  As part of that celebration, we will be dig into our archives for photos like this one from 1974 that shows two young players who are still with organization, now in a coaching capacity.  It is folks like Mike and Wayne, and their parents before them, that have made the NPAA so successful for so long!

State Senator Stewart Greenleaf has sponsored the North Penn Athletic Association for a $10,000 grant from the State of Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant, which was received in June 2007, was requested in December 2006.  The money is earmarked for Squires building improvements which coincide with the "Field of Dreams" project that lengthened the current practice field to a regulation-size field that were used for games in 2007.   Senator Greenleaf presented the check at the ground breaking ceremonies for the new field on September 22nd.  Thanks Senator Greenleaf!

Squires AD Attends Forum at Eagles Camp
Tom USA Football

The Eagles and USA Football played host to the first annual Youth Football Regional Forum on Sunday, April 29th. With approximately 20 different area youth football leagues represented, presidents and league officials gathered to discuss current issues, and met coach Andy Reid.  The North Penn Squires were well represented with Tom Rinck, our Athletic Director (second from left).  The Squires have been an active member of USA Football since their inception.  We received a $1500 grant from them last year which was used to purchase new shoulder pads.

USA Football is an independent non-profit organization whose purpose is to support and expand football at all amateur levels. They received initial funding from the National Football League and the NFL Players Association, through the NFL Youth Football Fund.  USA Football does not operate any leagues or teams. Their mission as a national advocacy organization is to support and enhance the development and operation of leagues, teams, coaches, parents and players across the United States with resources and best practices such as coaching and health & safety information.  Jack Kemp, former U.S. Congressman and All-Pro quarterback who led the Buffalo Bills to the 1964 and 1965 AFL Championship, is USA Football's Chairman.

The Squires will continue their affiliation with USA Football in 2007 and beyond.

DCED Grant
(L to R) Tom Rinck, Steve Cameron, Senator Greenleaf, Tim Niedosik
State Senator Stewart Greenleaf has sponsored the North Penn Athletic Association for a $5,000 grant from the State of Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant, which was received in February, was requested in September 2005. Another grant for $10,000 was submitted in December 2006 and should be received in 2007 or early 2008--again thanks to Senator Greenleaf. The money is earmarked for Squires building improvements which coincide with the "Field of Dreams" project that lengthens the current practice field to a regulation-size field that can be used for games in 2007.

MISSION STATEMENT -
The North Penn Athletic Association is dedicated to providing the boys and girls of the North Penn and surrounding areas a chance to play basketball, football and lead cheers.    We believe that helping children grow athletically, will assist them in growing academically which will then in turn help them grow into the men and women of our community.   We believe participation in the sports that we provide to all boys and girls aid in their youth development. We strive to provide our children with a beneficial exposure to the principles of teamwork and sportsmanship. We also believe that providing leadership opportunities are crucial.  This year our cheerleading squad will have many opportunities to develop those leadership skills along with their cheerleading skills and I am looking forward to a great season!

Here is what your Coaches are saying about the 2010 season!
Coach Tina Says…

Hello Girls and welcome to the 2010 North Penn Squires Cheerleading Season. My name is Coach Tina and I am very excited to be back again this year. This year I will be the Commissioner for the Cheerleading Squads as well as coaching the Varsity Squad. I have lived in the Lansdale area for most of my adult life after moving here from Tennessee my junior year in high school. As a youth, I was a cheerleader for my Elementary and Middle School in Tennessee.  In college, I was a cheerleader for my college soccer and basketball teams at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA.     For those of you that are returning this year, welcome back!  I am looking forward to bigger and better things this year and can't wait to see you all again. For those of you that will be joining us for the first time this year…welcome to Squires Cheerleading we can't wait to meet you at camp.   GO SQUIRES!!!!

Coach Kerry Says…
Hello my name is Kerry Allen.   I will be the Junior Varsity Coach this season for my second season as a Cheer Coach for the North Penn Squires.  I am very excited to coach again this season.  When I was younger I was a cheerleader for the Squires and I can't wait to see you all learn our cheers!  My boyfriend's daughter Brenna is on the JV Squad and his son Deaglan will be on this year's flag football team.  We have some new activities planned for this year. I hope you all have a wonderful season and enjoy it as much as we will. My e-mail address is kersunshine2000@yahoo.com so please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.  I look forward to meeting everyone!!  GO SQUIRES!!!

COMMISIONER'S CORNER – Some questions have arisen surrounding our cheer program intent and mission.  I encourage you to read the above mission statement and if you have questions, please reach out to me.  Also below are a few questions I have received.

Q: "Is our squad a competitive squad?"
A:  As we strive to maintain a competitive football team, we would like to build a competitive cheer squad.  However, we realize that this will take time, resources and is talent dependent.  At this time we are in a rebuilding effort and are not a competitive squad.

Q:  "Can we include pyramids in our routines and cheers?"
A: At this time, the Organization does not support our squads in the inclusion of pyramids in our cheers or routines.  The rationale is that our insurance coverage does not cover accidents related to pyramids.  Also, the number one injury related to cheering occurs during pyramid building. Thanks,

Coach Tina

Mardi Gras Parade !
This year the North Penn Squires will be marching in the Lansdale Annual Mardi Gras Parade on November 20th.  We will be helping bring Santa to town and creating a lot of Squire's Spirit !!

CHEER CAMP -- I am pleased to tell you that our girls have been invited to participate in a Youth Cheer Camp to be held at the Plymouth WhiteMarsh High school on August 9th, 10th and 11th.  This is a voluntary camp and is not mandatory to participate in our cheer program.  However, it will be an excellent opportunity to learn new cheers and to learn the dance routines.  If you are interested, please let me know and I will send you a registration form.  The cost is $50 and I will coordinate transportation leaving and returning to the Squires Field house.  This camp is taught by the high school cheerleaders from Plymouth WhiteMarsh High school.  It is a long standing program (over 9 years) and was specifically designed to develop youth cheerleaders aged 5-14.  Let me know ASAP if you are going, so we can get our spaces reserved.

CHEERLEADER ORIENTATION – New to our organization?  Come and meet your Coaches!  August 2nd 6:30 pm Squires Field.

FIRST PRACTICE -- we will begin our season on August 3rd at 6:30 pm at the Squires Field.  This first practice is mandatory for all cheerleaders and parents.  During our first practice, we will discuss the cheer program, distribute the schedule, divide into squads and begin to learn our cheers and pom-pom routine.

PRACTICES -
Practices are held at the Squires Fields. The exact schedule will be communicated as we move closer to the beginning of the season.  Typically they are held 2-3 times a week.  This year we will be having a check in and check out procedure.  The Team Mom will assist the Coach by having a roster with each Cheerleader and Parents/Guardian names on it.  At each practice parents will need to escort their cheerleader to the practice area and check in with the Team Mom/Coach and sign the roster.  At the end of each practice, parents will be required to checkout their cheerleader by signing them out on the roster.
We do not require that parents stay for the entire practice, but we need your help and compliance with this new procedure to ensure that your most precious cheerleader is kept safe and released to the appropriate parent/guardian at the end of the practice.

PRACTICE ATTIRE/FOOD -
Be sure to have your cheerleader eat dinner before practice.  We will take a brief water break, but will not break for snacks.  The snack bar is open after practice if you wish to purchase a snack or dinner then.
Always bring the following things to practice:
Water
Sneakers
Comfortable shorts or pants, NO JEANS or SKIRTS
Sweatshirt or jacket - it gets cold on the field
Hair must be up in a pony for practice

GAMES
Attendance - If your cheerleader cannot be present for the game, you must e-mail or phone your coach to let her know that you cannot attend.

Rain/Snow - Each cheerleader will be issued a clear rain coat to wear over their uniform if there is light rain.  If the forecast calls for a heavy downpour, we may call off our attendance at the game - even if the game is still on.  Pay close attention to your e-mail leading up to game time.  If we cancel our attendance, a message will be sent via e-mail to your e-mail address on file.

Arrival -
You must arrive to every game at least 15 minutes prior to game time and check in with your coach.

Uniform - You need to come to every game in full uniform. Full uniform includes your shell, skirt, bloomers, cheer socks, sneakers and hair bow. Bring your white bodysuit/turtleneck, black leggings and cheer jacket along. You will not be allowed to wear your winter coat or any other jacket or pants.  However, you may wear as many layers under your leggings, turtleneck and shell that you are comfortable in.

Drinks/Food- We take our drink breaks at the end of every quarter. A snack and drink will be provided for the cheerleaders after they perform the half time routine. Please bring a water bottle with your daughter's name on it for them to drink after every quarter. They are not allowed to eat or drink during the game.

Cheer Lines- Cheerleaders need to stay in their cheer lines when the players are playing the game. No parent, friend or family member may walk up to the cheerleader while they are in their lines and engage in a conversation. If one girls steps out of the line, others will follow and we lack continuity on the field.

Captains- There will be 1 captain per game and the captain will be decided at Thursday night's practice before the game. The captain will call the cheers at the game and help keep the cheer line in order.

OTHER IMPORTANT DATES -
This year the North Penn Squires will be marching in the Lansdale Annual Mardi Gras Parade on November 20th.  We will be helping bring Santa to town and creating a lot of Squire's Spirit!!  We will also have a Pep Rally for our Homecoming and are looking into other opportunities for the girls to shine.

WHAT NORTH PENN SQUIRES (NPS) SUPPLIES TO THE CHEERLEADERS:
Your uniform consisting of a shell (top), skirt, cheer hair ribbon/bow, rain cover-up, pom-poms and jacket are supplied by NPS and must be returned at the end of the year.

WHAT YOU NEED TO PURCHASE FOR THE SEASON
You will need to purchase a white bodysuit with a turtleneck or a white UnderArmour type of turtle neck, navy bloomers, white socks, black leggings, and cheer sneakers. Coach Tina will let you know when and where you need to purchase these items. (Do not purchase anything until a message has been sent out to you).

CHEER MOMS
We need 1 cheer Mom per squad. If you are interested, please contact Coach Tina.  Responsibilities will include coordinating snacks for each game, escorting cheerleaders to the bathroom, helping the coaches ensure that all cheerleaders are checked in and out of practices.

PICTURES
Team and Individual pictures will be taken during the season and will be available for purchase.  Pictures may also be taken at games by parents and volunteers.  If you take photos and would like to have them posted on the website, please e-mail them to Coach Tina @
tinaloux@gmail.com.  If you are opposed to having your daughter's picture put on the website, please let me know ASAP.

FUNDRAISING
This year in addition to the sale of the Football Mania tickets, we are looking into having specific fundraisers for the Cheerleaders.  If you have ideas, please contact Coach Tina @
tinaloux@gmail.com.  Funds from these specific cheerleader fundraisers will go into a specific fund for the cheer squads to help pay for things such as uniforms, pom-poms, jackets, camps, etc.

END OF SEASON BANQUET/PARTIES
At the end of the season, our squads will have a pizza party to celebrate our successes!  However, the big event is the SQUIRES banquet which is held at the Philadelphia Sports Club in Chalfont each year.  At the banquet, kids will rotate through a variety of sporting events, such as laser tag, volley ball, racquet ball and swimming.  It is a lot of fun!  At the banquet is where our cheerleader will receive her trophy for the season.  Cheerleaders who have been with the Squires for 4 years will also receive their Letter Jacket!  It's an event not to be missed.

SUPER SQUIRE AWARD
This year we are proud to announce the establishment of the SUPER SQUIRE AWARD.  We have established this award to recognize a cheerleader who makes an outstanding contribution to the squads. To qualify for this award, nominees must demonstrate & provide enthusiasm, positive attitude, guts, leadership, effort and service throughout the season! The coaches and fellow squad members will be voting at the end of the season.  There will be one winner and they will receive a special trophy and a gift certificate to be awarded at the Squires Banquet mentioned above.

Lastly --
During the season we may have a few parent/coaches meetings.  Please check with your Coach or check the website
www.northpennsquires.com for updated information. If you have any concerns at any time, please don't hesitate to bring them to the attention of your Commissioner – Tina Loux.
