NOYSA: Why NOYSA?

The North Ottawa Youth Softball Association was established to promote softball as an affordable, accessible, and enjoyable activity to Grand Haven and Spring Lake area girls. The goal is to challenge players of all skill levels so that they continue to appreciate the sport, while being allowed to advance at their own pace. Players may choose to take advantage of programs that are offered up to 9 months out of the year, participating as much or as little as they prefer.

The 3 components of NOYSA programs are as follows:

  1. Fall Training. - Practices held in September and October that are designed to build a majority of the skills needed to be successful in a competitive setting. This is the perfect time to introduce new players to our organization. We divide our practice times up based on age and within each group we make sure players are surrounded with girls of similar ability. Girls who participate in Fall training get 6 weeks of fundamental instruction and they simply get better because of the extra reps they receive. We really want to see a lot of girls in each age group: 8 and under, 9-10, 11-14.
  2.
  3. Winter Training. – Practices held between January and March to focus on fundamentals needed to become a stronger player. This is indoor training where the players participate in a variety of hitting, fielding and throwing drills so that their fundamentals are sharp and ready for spring. Players are divided by age group and we use indoor balls to help ensure safety. Training is fast paced so that the players receive plenty of reps and value.
  4.
  5. Spring/Summer Recreational Leagues. - Practices are held in April and May and games take place from May – July, depending on division. Games provide girls a chance to experience all the key metrics of the game in an effort to prepare players for middle school and high school teams, while playing against local teams from Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon County.

Players do not need to participate in all of these programs to be part of NOYSA.

NOYSA should not be confused with a travel team. Any player who signs up will be placed on a team.

Parents often ask why they should choose NOYSA over other area programs. The answer is simple. The NOYSA Board of Directors and Coaches are fully invested in providing the best experience possible while encouraging players to work hard and reach their full potential, regardless of what that may be. We will not discourage anyone from wanting more out of the sport and moving on to higher levels of play.

We hope that you will choose NOYSA right away!  Any questions, email us at info@makesomenoysa.com
