2006 EASL OPEN TOURNAMENT

image_name2

The 2006 EASL Tournament Prooved to be extremely tough competition once again. The Rage started saturday off slow in the tournament with a 0-0 tie against the Eastfield United SC Dragons. Although the Rage dominated the  field of play, the team could just not find the back of the net. The Rage played the next game a bit short handed against the GSC Tap Freedom (VA), a division 2 wags team. The Rage played extremely tough but came up a bit short as the team ran out of gas and suffered a 1-0 lose. Sunday was a must win situation for the Rage as the team squared off with the Baltimore Bays 92-93 (ranked 5th in the state/Md State Cup runner ups 05-06) in the semi- finals. The game was filled with action and went to the half tied 0-0. The Rage was able to put together a well timed run with about 4 minutes left in the game. Rage for/mid Ashley Cooper sent A  well struck cross from the right  side into  the center of the box and Rage forward Jessie Szczawinski was able to strike the ball out of the air and past the Bays goalie for the 1-0 lead. The rage deffense was then able to shut the door for the 1-0 victory and a rematch in the championship with the GSC Tap Freedom. The championship game would be no let down either as the rage took a 1-0 lead to the half over GSC Tap Freedom as Rage mid/for Ashley Cooper found the back of the net on a direct penalty kick from about 25 yards out. The second half seemed to be going the Rages way but with about 4 minutes left in the game the GSC Tap Freedom was able to tie the game off a well placed corner kick. The game would head to overtime. Sudden death overtime began with the first 5 minutes full of action, The Rage almost finished off the game as a shot from the Rage skimmed off the right upright. The second overtime was back and forth but the rage came up a bit short as 4 minutes in the GSC Tap Freedom found the back of the net for the win off another well place corner kick. 2nd place finish out of some strong competition was nothing to hang our heads about. The Rage showed character as they bounced back from a slow start to finish very strong. Nice job Rage..........

2006 GETTYSBURG BATTLEFIELD BLAST TOURNAMENT

image_name2
Nottingham SC Rage had a great weekend of soccer. With the team playing in a U-16/U-17 division we played tough against some very good competition.  The team lost a heartbreaking semi-final match against a tough U-17 Bloomsburg team (PA) 2-1 in sudden death overtime which held us from making the championship match. The girls did not let down after the lose as they bounce back to finish third in the tournament by defeating another tough U-17 team, the CPYSC Hornets (PA) 1-0 in the consolation match. 2006 HERSHEY INVITATIONAL KICKS 4 KIDS TOURNAMENT

NOTTINGHAM SOCCER CLUB RAGE WINS THE 2006 HERSHEY INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT U-14 A DIVISION
Although the temperatures were extremely hot (90's) the Rage started off the tournament in great style with a 3-1 win over a tough Livonia Sharpshooters team (NY). In the first half the Rage went down quick on a goal by Livonia But bounced back on a Tap in goal a few minutes later by Angela Amato (Rage) off an assist by Bridgette Willey (Rage). Half ended up in a 1-1 tie. The second half proved to be all Rage as the team opened up with a cross by Erin Kilduff (Rage) that Angela Amato(Rage) headed into the goal for a 2-1 lead. This was followed shortly after as Ashley Cooper (Rage) intercepted a pass for a break away and beat the goalie to finish off the game with a 3-1 victory. The defense did its usual job (awesome) by shutting down Livonia for most  of the game.
After a 5 hour rest (betwwen games), the rage seemed a bit slugish in the second game against the Sayreville Lady Blue Devils (   ). The offense although had some opportunities but could not find the back off the net. The defense new that it was now up to them to secure the victory. The defense stayed focused and was able to halt any offensive attack that Sayreville attempted to maintain the 0-0 tie. Oustanding play by the Rages defensive side.
The Rage finished the day with win and a tie. But through goal differential and tough play it was good enough to win the bracket and push the Rage into the semis.
The next day started off with pure excitemnt. The temperatures again were in the mid 90's but it did not seem to bother a focused Rage team.
The semi final was against the Mclean Mavericks (VA) and proved to be the game of the tournament. The rage started off strong in the first half with a goal from the right side that found the far corner of the net by Bridgette Willey. With tough defensive play that led the Rage to a 1-0 lead at the half. The second half seemed to be going just as planmed as the offense had there opportunities but the Rage deffense was controlling the game. The heat seemed to get to the Rage towards the end and with less that 5 minutes left in the game Mclean was able to break through the defense and hit a very nice upper 90 shot that Rage goalie Amanda Walters made a beautiful diving attempt getting fingers on the ball but it just made it through for a 1-1 tie. Over time here we come again................ The Rage and Mclean battled through two brutal five minute over times still tied at 1-1 sending the game to a penalty kick shootout (not again). You could see the pure emotion from the Rage players on the field as
they huddled together to find the strength and to fight the fatigue that they had just endured.
The shootout opened up with Mclean scoring followed by a goal from Angela Amato (Rage) 1-1. Then Mclean scored again but it was followed by a goal from Ashley Cooper (Rage) 2-2. Mclean then hit the cross bar for a miss which was followed by a goal from Meghan Bangert (Rage) for a 3-2 advantage. Rage Goalie Amanda Walters then made a stop on the Mcleans shooter followed by a miss by Rage shooter Shelby Perkins to remain at the 3-2 advantage. This led the stage for Mcleans last shooter who hit her shot wide left to give the Rage a dramatic finish with a 3-2 victory and the way into the final.
The final was against the Hillsborough Tigers (NJ) our Hotel rivals but proved to be all Rage. The game
time temperature was hovering around 95 degrees but the Rage seemed determined to push through for the victory. The game opened up with Hillsborough finding the back of the net first for a 1-0 lead. Instead of letting the goal get the Rage down just under a minute later Ashley Coopers (Rage) outlet pass to the right point was met by Stevie Noppinger (Rage) for a well placed shot from the corner that hit the underside of the cross bar and bounced in for a 1-1 tie at half. Second half the Rage put the hammer down. Rage striker Ashley Cooper recieved the ball about 30 yards out catching the Hillsborough goilie off the line ripping a rocket shot that found the back of the net just under the cross bar to give the rage a 2-1 go ahead lead and they never looked back. The icing on the cake was Rages wing Sheila Anthony's drive down the left side that forced Hillsborough Goilie out of the box and Anthony was able to place a well place chip shot over the goalies head and into the net for a 3-1 lead. Then it was the defenses turn to shut the door with oustanding play and a well timed save by Rages Goalie Amanda Walters to end Hillsboroughs last push to give the Rage a 3-1 victory and the tournament championship. Give credit to the Rages defense for fighting the heat and ending several runs by some very good competition. they keep us in every game and are hardly mentioned. Great job defense ( Karly Knudsen, Alex Jeddry, Liz Menas, Erin Kilduff, Shelby Perkins, Michelle Kolb, Kelsey Koontz, Emma Goodman, Taylor Smith and last but not least Amada Walters).

2006 MARYLAND SHORE CLASSIC TOURNAMENT

image_name2
NOTTINGHAM SOCCER CLUB RAGE WINS THE 2006 U-14A MARYLAND SHORE CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Rage started off the tournament in a rain soaked cold Saturday against a tough Calvert Soccer Association Striker team. Although we played well and controlled the ball well, we just could not find the back of the net. Strikers scored a late goal and even though we battled back we just came up a bit short to drop a 1-0 game. The Rage bounced back in the second game and despite the miserable weather dominated a tough Mako SC team from Berlin. Header goal early by Leah Taylor, set up by a great cross from the left side by Meghan Bangert and a late unassisted goal from the left side by Meghan Bangert gave the Rage a 2-0 victory. Sundays weather was a bit better and the Rage faced off in a must win game to make the the championship against our Baltimore rivals, the Perry Hall Pumas. The game was tough as usual. The Rage Jumped on top in the first half as Ashley Cooper found the back of the Pumas net from the right side, set up by a great cross by Bridgette Willey. The Rage were then able to hang on to the 1-0 lead with a great defensive stop by Karly Knudsen, just before the half to end a Pumas run. The second half excitement was filled by a strong defensive effort and great play by Erin Kilduff as the Pumas turned up the heat. Last but not least,Rage goalie Amanda Walters slammed the door shut on the Pumas with an outstanding diving game winning save to give the Rage a 1-0 win and the way into the championship against the Calvert Soccer Association Strikers.
The championship game had no let downs either in excitement. The Rage was able to jump on top by an unassisted goal and great follow through by Bridgette Willey in the first half. The second half seemed to be ours until 4 minutes left in the game. The Strikers were able to put one in off a corner kick to tie it up 1-1. Overtime here we come....................... The Rage battled the Strikers through two 5 minute overtimes to remain at the 1-1- tie which set up a penalty kick shootout to decide the championship. The rage shooters started off with Leah Taylor , Ashley Cooper And Meaghan Bangert, who all had hard shots but the strikers goalie was able to shut them down. Equally though,Rage goalie Amanda Walters shut the Strikers first three shooters down with some amazing saves. Rage defender Karly Knudsen then stepped up and found the back of the net to the right side to give the Rage a 1-0 advantage in the shootout, followed by a miss from the Strikers 4th shooter. The Rages last shooter Alex Jeddry also took a hard shot but the Strikers goalie was able to make the stop which set up the Strikers last shooter and the chance for Rage goalie Amanda Walters to make the save and win the Championship. Strikers shooter went high right but Rage Goalie Amanda Walters pushed the ball out to shutout the Strikers in the shootout and win the championship. Great Job by all the girls both offensively and defensively as the rage needed the great effort from each and everyone of you to win the championship.

U-14 GIRLS "A" DIVISION
Ladies the second session ended with a second place finish in the league. We actually out played most with only giving up 10 goals in 8 games. Pretty outstanding for indoor play. The one slip in the season was a 1-0 lose when we were short handed that kept us from winning the league. Nice job and way to finish up with the winter session.
