Born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Los Angeles, California, Corey played organized baseball since the age of 12 years old. Corey has played little league, lettered three times in Varsity high school baseball, 3A All-City CIF Selection 2nd Team (1986) and earned 1st Team honors in 1987. Also lettered 2 years Varsity Basketball and even played in the H.S. band! Heavily scouted, Corey was a 16th round (398 overall) selection for the Seattle Mariners. Drafted as a Center fielder,
Corey's greatest asset at the time was his enthusiasm, strong arm, and blazing speed. He ran the 60 yard dash in 6.6 seconds. (Ken Griffey Jr. ran 6.13 and Chuck Carr a 6.18) Tops in the Mariners organization at the time. Corey sustained a knee injury 1988 that sidelined him the entire season. Corey was released by the Mariners in 1991 and didn't return to professional baseball until 1995 where he played in the Western Baseball League for 4 years.
Not new to big break, it came when he went to Taipei to play in the Taiwan Major League. The first week of regular play, Corey hit three homers and drove in seven runs to tie the TML record for a single night. Corey continued to perform and produce in Taiwan until scouts for the Seibu Lions made an offer and signed him to a contract in 1999.
Corey'sjjourney in the world through basball took him to Japan where his new teammates and opponents included Deisuke Matsuzaka, Kazuo "Kaz" Matsui, Reggie Jefferson, Tony Fernandez, Alex Cabrera, Ichiro, Tuffy Rhodes. Corey played three years in Japan where he won two consecutive Triple-Crowns batting .368, 48 homers, and 148 RBIs in 2000 and 2001. Corey signed several contracts in subsequent years in culturally diverse countries-South Korea, Mexico, Venezuela, Canada. The Calgary Vipers signed Corey in 2005.
He would become the first player in Viper history to earn the Rawlings Player of the Week Award. After his release, Corey got involved with Baseball Alberta as a learning facilitator and coached the 2008 Sherwood Park Minor Baseball Bantam team. Corey continues to prepare players in Oregon and Washington as a mentor for Northwestern Baseball Academy.
