North Oldham Little League: Challenger Division- Special Needs

CHALLENGER DIVISON (ages 7-18) Special Needs Children

North Oldham Little League started our Challenger Division in 2010. The Challenger Division of Little League Baseball is a program for the mentally and physically challenged youth, helping them to enjoy the full benefits of Little League participation and in an athletic environment structured to their abilities.

More than the skills of baseball learned through the experience, the value of the Little League Challenger is found in the proven therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports, the strengthening of participants self-esteem the opportunities to mainstream into other divisions of play and the disciplines of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play, which are hallmarks of the Little League program.

The Little League Challenger Division provides the framework so Little League programs may offer a structured, athletic activity for all your youth in their communities. Playing with the same equipment on the same fields, Challenger Division participants have the opportunity to experience the joys of pulling together as a team, being cheered and earning awards for their achievements.

The Challenger League has a Buddy system. This allows other players in the league to act as buddies and allows Challenger participants to enjoy social interaction and develop friendships with other participants in the league. It also provides a valuable experience to the players who volunteer as buddies. It is important for buddies to be patient, show good sportsmanship, and not be interested in showcasing their own athletic abilities .  If your child wants to be a "Buddy" just mark on registration form.
