2012 U16 GOLD Supernova Champs
Tuesday, January 24
North Idaho Thunder U16 Gold team win the Supernova Invite Championship Bracket on Sunday in Rosalia

Here is a summary from Coach Leah: “What a wonderful way to start off our tournament schedule by winning the Supernova Invite in Rosalia, Washington.  The competition was primarily Spokane area teams.  The U16 Gold team went undefeated in pool play to warm up for the championship bracket play.  Coach Sierra and myself are so proud of the girls for the tenacity they showed during the matches.  The girls did not drop a game to any team during the day.  But, that does not reflect how hard they worked and the mental toughness they showed to overcome deficits in most of the games during bracket play.  Kudos to the girls for a job well done.  Thank you to all the parents and relatives that came to support us as well.”

2012 U16 Black Runner Up Supernova
Tuesday, January 24
North Idaho Thunder U16 Black - Runner Up in Supernova Consolation Bracket

Runner up in Consolation Bracket @ Supernova Invite. Here is a recap from Coach Lindsey: “The girls played great this weekend, all the coaches are so proud of how well they played as a team and never gave up.  We started pool play with a big win against Splash 15, ended up losing to Eclipse our 2nd game, but still a hard fought match and won our 3rd game against Impact.  We unfortunately barely missed out on taking 2nd in pool play.  There was a 3 way tie between us, Splash and Eclipse for 1st place and we fell short by 1 point.  Heading into the consolation bracket we dominated the first 2 teams we played, beating them both in 2 games (Pursuit and Panorama).  Heading into the consolation championship we still had a lot of energy despite having no down time between 3 games.  We ended up losing the first game, but came back with a vengeance in the 2nd game; unfortunately we just fell short 25-21 to push it to 3 games.  I think the biggest thing that really stands out about these girls is their attitudes and the drive to play.  They have a real maturity about them, they stay calm when their down and always fight back.  All in all it was a very successful 1st tournament for the girls.  We’ll get back in the gym these next couple weeks and work on some things and look forward to dominating the next tournament.  Great job 16-Black!!

2012 U14 Black Bronze Champs
Tuesday, January 24
North Idaho Thunder U14 Black win the Bronze Bracket at Kimmell Klassic

What a day for the U14 Black squad! Tight game after tight game in bracket play. I got nervous just watching. Each game could have gone either way but these girls didn’t quit and truly played like CHAMPIONS. Here is a note from Coach Jackie: “I was so proud of the girls' effort throughout the ENTIRE tournament. They not only became much more comfortable with their rotations and positions, but they were able to adjust and push through some tough games to come out winning the BRONZE BRACKET! We have so much more to learn, but this was a great starting point and I could not be happier with the girls positive attitudes and energy throughout  the day! I look forward to only growing from this point on! “

They moved into the semi finals and beat PAC-V two straight 25-18 and 25-15. In the championship game, they faced Snake River. The positive enthusiasm in the gym was incredible, it was a very well played match with a nail biting finish of a 25-23 and 25-22 win. – here is a note from Coach Judi: “What a great tournament! The tournament was power league format which means the top 8 teams were grouped together. We were seeded 8th overall, so we knew it was going to be a tough morning. We had a very strong pool. The girls came out a little flat. I'm sure it was nerves, but when they started playing nothing was going to stop them. We lost a very tough first match in three and then won everything from there on out. Almost every game went to three. The girls played hard and we could definitely see their determination! We had great teamwork and everyone contributed to a great day. I'm very proud of you! - Coach Judi”

THUNDER VOLLEYBALL UPDATE - 06

First, I want to thank all of our 13U and 14U parents. Your help and participation yesterday was phenomenal. People were helping out all over the place. We could not have none it without all your support. Thanks again.

This weekend was our busiest weekend yet and we added two more championships to the Thunder organization. All the teams are doing such a great job and continue to get better and better.

  • U12 Black – 3rd place in the Championship Bracket at the Sideout Mania in Spokane – Here is a note from Coach Barb: “U12 Black team had another great tournament day, this time at the Sideout Tournament in Spokane. The team started off seeded 2nd in the pool and completed pool play in 1st place with a clean sweep, beating every team in two games. Entering the championship bracket the first game was against Post Falls. The girls continued on their winning streak with a win 25-8, 24-26 and 15-11 to advance to the semi finals. They battled with the Sandpoint team in two close games. It was an exciting day of volleyball and they officially finished the day in 3rd place.  The girls played SO well together and worked hard. Coach Barb would also like to thank the parents for being so POSITIVE all day for the girls, your support was truly felt and appreciated.” Way to go girls.
  • U13 Gold – 5th Place in the Championship Bracket at our U14 Sports Cellar Classic – They played well in pool play, losing a tough 3 game set vs Troy to end up 2nd in their pool. That got them to the championship bracket and a match vs U14 Gold. They played their hearts out and gave the 14 Gold team their toughest match of the day. Very nice job girls.
  • U14 Black – 5th Place in the Championship Bracket at our U14 Sports Cellar Classic – 14 Black won their pool in the am play. That got them into the championship bracket and they faced Troy like the 13 Gold had and again another great match that went right down to the end with a game three included in this also and unfortunately 14 Black just came up a bit short. They continue to get better and better.
  • U14 Gold – 1st Place in the Championship Bracket at our U14 Sports Cellar Classic – 14 Gold won their second tournament of the year to go along with a 2nd and a 3rd. On the way to the championship they did not lose a game. Quite impressive girls.
  • U16 Black – 1st Place in the Bronze Bracket at the Stars and Spikes tournament in Chattaroy – 16 Black is the 5th Thunder team to win a tournament bracket this season. Here is a note about the big win from Coach Lindsey: “We ended up 4th in our pool just barely losing to 2 of the teams…the girls played the best volleyball we’ve seen to date, we just couldn’t quite finish them out.  But they bounced back and took 1st in the Bronze bracket.  They have improved so much and are really starting to execute plays.  We are very proud of how they finished the day.  We are looking forward to our last 2 tourney’s and can’t wait to see the girls continue to improve.  Thanks!!”  . You should be very proud of yourselves girls.
  • U16 Gold – 5th Place in the Gold Bracket at the Stars and Spikes tournament in Chattaroy – here is a note from Coach Corina:” The 16 gold had a good weekend.. We had a tough pool that challenged us mentally and physically. The girls fought hard and overall we grew as a team!”
  • U17 Gold – 3rd Place in Consolation Bracket at the Sideout Mania in Spokane – Played some very tough teams in pool play and came up just a bit short in a couple of matches. Won their first round of bracket play but lost the next round to finish 3rd.

We have 7 teams playing again this weekend:

  • U12 Black – Sunday @ U12 Kimmel Klassic at CHS
  • U12 Gold – Saturday @ Stars and Spikes in Chattaroy and Sunday at U12 Kimmel Klassic at CHS
  • U14 Black – Saturday @ APEX Awareness in Spokane
  • U14 Gold – Saturday @ APEX Awareness in Spokane
  • U16 Black – Sunday @ APEX Awareness in Spokane
  • U16 Gold – Sunday @ APEX Awareness in Spokane
  • U17 Gold – Final tournament of the year @ Stars and Spikes in Chattaroy

Good luck to all, work hard and have fun out there.

Go Thunder

THUNDER VOLLEYBALL UPDATE - 05

Only three teams played last weekend but great results by all three. The Thunder organization continues to keep playing at a high level with all teams.

  • U13 Gold – 5th in Championship Bracket at the PACV Open in Pullman – In only their second tournament of the season they went undefeated in pool play and lost a tough opening bracket match to finish a strong 5th place. Nice job.
  • U16 Gold – 1st Place in Gold Bracket at the Snowman Slam – U16 Gold added to their very impressive season with their 2nd tournament victory of the season. They won their pool in the morning and defeated Post Falls in the championship. Way to go girls.
  • U17 Gold – 5th Place in Gold Bracket at the 3 day President’s Weekend Tournament in Seattle – Other than the PNQ, this is the biggest and best competition our organization goes to. The 17s were seeded 17th out of 32 in the U18 Open Division. In day 1 pool play they defeated two top 10 seeded teams from Oregon and destroyed a Washington team to finish 3-0 and win their pool. The top 16 from Saturday then faced each other on Sunday and  we again beat two higher seeded teams than us from Seattle and the Tri Cities. In the night cap we faced overall # 2 seed VIP Juniors from Spokane and lost a very tough match with one game going overtime and second game by two points. The top 8 from Saturday’s upper pools then made the Gold bracket for Monday and we made it with the #1, #2, #3, #4, #6, #7, #12 and us at #17. We drew a Canadian regional team on Monday and lost in overtime again in game one and came up short in game two. So terrific job girls to be seeded #17 and finished #5 in such a loaded tournament.

We have 7 teams playing this weekend:

  • U12 Black – Sideout Mania in Spokane
  • U13 Gold – @ our U14 Sports Cellar Classic
  • U14 Black - @ our U14 Sports Cellar Classic

Good luck to all, work hard and have fun out there.

THUNDER VOLLEYBALL UPDATE - 04

Another strong weekend turned in by the girls of the Thunder organization. None of the six teams in action finished lower than 3rd. Great job to all.

  • U12 Black – 3rd in Championship Bracket at U12 Treaty Rock Classic – here is a note from Coach Barb: “Another great weekend for the U12 Black Team. The team played great this weekend finishing 2nd in pool play and advancing to the championship bracket. Played into the semi final game with a strong finish and tied for 3rd at the Treaty Rock Tournament in Post Falls. Way to go girls - you did awesome this weekend.  Coach Barb
  • U12 Gold – 3rd in Championship Bracket at the U12 Sideout Classic – lost a close one to get to finals
  • U13 Gold - 3rd in Consolation Bracket at the U14 Sideout Classic – here is a comment from Coach Kevin: “U13 made their debut on Sunday and they improved each and every game and by the end of the day had already came a long way. We are very proud of how hard they played and really enjoyed seeing them get their first win of the season. We won our first bracket game and then loss a close one to get to consolation championship game.” Coach Kevin
  • U14 Gold - 2nd in Championship Bracket at the U14 Sideout Classic – won their pool in the morning and earned a bye for the bracket play. Beat Club 509 in quarterfinals and defeated a tough APEX team in the semis in a great 3 game match. In the finals against the host Sideout team, the U14 Gold won first game 25-19, then lost game two 23-25 to force a game three to decide the champion. We went up 11-7 in game three but ended up losing 12-15 and finished second out of 24 teams but still an outstanding showing. They now have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd this year in 3 big 24 team tournaments.
  • U16 Black – 3rd in Silver Bracket at the Pullman PACV Tournament – here is a note from Coach Jenna: “We got 3rd in our pool. Won the first game in bracket play and lost the second. We continue to improve every tournament though and are having a good time.” Coach Jenna
  • U16 Gold - 3rd in Gold Bracket at the Shadle Showdown – won their morning pool and first round of bracket play. Then lost in semis.

We have 3 teams playing this weekend:

THUNDER VOLLEYBALL UPDATE - 03

Thunder celebrated another very successful weekend. We had 6 teams in action and everyone represented our Thunder organization strong and proudly. We had two tournament championships, two seconds and two 5ths. Way to go girls and coaches.

  • U12 Black – 2nd in Consolation Bracket at U12 VIP Block Party – here is a note from Coach Barb: “U12 Black faced some tough pool play action this past Saturday. After some very well played games the team battled to a 1 - 2 finish. the team worked easily through the consolation tournament to the championship game against Strike Force. An exciting match, spliting the first two games and they battled hard in the 3rd game but finished just behind Strike Force with a 10-15 loss. It was great to see the girls place again this weekend, they are working so well together and it is wonderful to see all of their accomplishments. Looking forward to our next tournament this Sat in Post Falls.  Coach Barb”
  • U12 Gold – 2nd in Championship Bracket at U12 VIP Block Party – another great finish girls.
  • U14 Black – 5th in Silver Bracket at U14 Stars & Spikes – way to go U14 Black.
  • U14 Gold – 1st in Gold Bracket at U14 Stars & Spikes – here is a note from Coach Judi: “What a great tournament!
  • U16 Gold – 5th at U18 Kimmel Klassic – Coach Corina and Warren had the girls play up with the U18s and they were in every game. They made a very strong showing and it was a good learning experience for them.
  • U17 Gold – 1st at U18 Kimmel Klassic – Back to Back. Our U17s had another exciting tournament yesterday and comebacks must be in their blood. Coaches Colleen and Anne and the girls lost a tough match in pool play to a National team from Pullman/Moscow. This team had many players from Pullman High School’s two time state championship team that went 29-2 and 27-4 the past two season. But in bracket play after facing a very competitive game from the U16 Gold team they made it to the championship and avenged their loss to the Pullman/Moscow team in two straight games. The 17s have now won two consecutive tournaments. Unbelievable job girls and coaches.

A big thanks goes out to all the parents who helped yesterday with our U18 Kimmel Klassic and especially the Leifer Family and Kimmel Athletic for sponsoring yet another tournament for us. Without everyone’s support and help we could not host a local tournament for our girls to play in and be in town for more relatives and friends to come watch. Thanks also to those  in the club but not associated with the 16s and 17s who came out to support our Thunder teams yesterday.

This weekend we have six teams in tournaments again.

  • U12 Black – Saturday in Post Falls (I have sent out info to you already on this)
  • U12 Gold – Sideout Classic at the HUB in Spokane Valley (we have not seen anything from Sideout yet but once I do I will forward to your team)
  • U13 Gold – Making their debut at the Sideout Classic at the HUB in Spokane Valley (see U12 Gold)
  • U14 Gold – Sideout Classic at the HUB in Spokane Valley (see U12 Gold)
  • U16 Black – PAC V tournament in Pullman (have not seen anything about this either but once I do I will send out info)
  • U16 Gold – Shadle Showdown in Spokane (I have sent out info to you earlier today on this)

Good luck to all and have fun out there.

Go THUNDER!!!!!

THUNDER VOLLEYBALL UPDATE - 02

Another great, great weekend for the Thunder organization. We finished the weekend with a 1st, 3rd and 5th place finishes.

  • U14 Black – Coach Jessica and Esther and the U14 Black team played their first tournament on Saturday in Spokane. They finished 2nd in their pool and finished 3rd overall in bracket play. Coach Jessica was very excited on how well the girls played and is ready to get back to practice and work on a few things so they can have even a better finish next time. Way to start the season U14 Black.
  • U16 Black – U16 Black played yesterday in Spokane and Coach Jenna reported that they also finished 2nd in their pool and then 5th in bracket play. She said the girls are continuing to improve and are having fun out there. Nice job girls and Coaches Jenna and Lindsey.
  • U17 Gold – What a tournament for the U17 Gold and Coaches Colleen and Anne. They finished 2nd in their morning pool by losing a close match with Post Falls. Then in bracket play they opened up by winning their first two matches before getting a rematch with Post Falls. What a championship match they had. Post Falls won game 1, then Thunder came back in game 2 with a  win to force a deciding game 3 for the championship. Score was going back to back until Post Falls pulled way to go up 14-10, then in one of the best comebacks that I have ever seen Amy Norris and her U17 teammates served and scored 6 straight points to win 16-14 and take the Championship. Incredible finish. Coach Colleen was very happy for the girls and said “the smiles on their faces were worth it all”. Way to go U17 Gold with Thunders 3rd championship of the early season.

I heard back from more than 20 families who wanted to order Thunder merchandise so attached is the on line registration form. It will be open until Wednesday, February 2nd at midnight so please go to Kimmel’s website kimmelathletic.com , then spirit code icon and then use sales code “NITVA” and you can order each item you would like. If you have any questions please call Kimmel or let me know but please don’t forget about the Wednesday night deadline. We want to get order off and items back as soon as we can.

Please remember that coaching fees for February are also due this week. Please bring checks to your coaches at practice this week.

Finally, we are hosting our second tournament this weekend. The U18 Kimmel Klassic at CHS with both our U17 Gold and U16 Gold playing in it. We will again need help from those parents to help make it happen. But the girls would love some Thunder family to come out and cheer them on if you have time before the super bowl.

Have a great week.
GO THUNDER!!!

THUNDER VOLLEYBALL UPDATE - 01

Fantastic weekend for the NI Thunder Club. Our first two championships of the year (U16 Gold – championship bracket of Kimmel Klassic and U12 Black – consolation bracket of East Valley Sizzler), two other strong finishes and our first hosted tournament that went off with a hitch. Lots of excitement all around.

Here are the recaps for the four teams who played and some comments from some of the coaches:

  • U12 Black – here is a note from Coach Barb: The U12 Black team had their tournament debut this past Saturday! They started the day off with a great win but ended up 3rd in pool play by a close 15-13 loss in the 3rd game of the match vs VIP. The girls played great as a TEAM and battled through the consolation bracket to finish 1ST. Watch for their team photo, showing off their medals coming soon to the THUNDER Website. Way to go ladies, your parents and coaches are VERY proud of you. What a great way to start the season - Coach Barb
  • U12 Gold – from coach Rebekah: We came in 3rd overall; we lost in a tough 3-game match in the semis.  The girls played solid volleyball yesterday.
  • U16 Black – they started the season strong by winning the first two matches and then lost a tough three game match to finished second in their pool. Then to start the bracket play they drew the 16 gold team and played outstanding. Although it is always hard for two club teams to face each other it was a close match all the way and the girls on both sides really competed.
  • U16 Gold – they followed up their 3rd place last weekend by winning their pool and then followed that up with three very exciting bracket play matches. After the hard fought match with the Black team, they played two tough Spokane teams and defeated both of them in three games each time. It was great to see our Thunder parents and friends up and cheering on the Gold team to victory. Terrific win and it is always nice to win our own tournament. Here is comment from Coach Corina: This weekend was amazing!

Thanks again to Kimmel Athletic, the Leifer’s and Williams’s for all their continued support and sponsorship of three of our tournaments. We all really appreciate it. Also thanks to all the parents and girls who helped out this weekend. Picking up garbage, cleaning bathroom, sweeping floor and staying to ref are never fun but with our work we saved almost $500. U12s, U14s and U18s be ready, your turn to help out will come with each of your tournaments coming up, your help is the only way we can fund four host tournaments but it is great to be able to play at home and in front of more friends and family members.

This weekend the U14 Black team makes their debut on Saturday and U16 Black and U17 Gold both are playing in tournaments on Sunday. Good luck to all of you.

Attached is the current calendar. Only change from last week is the U17 Gold moved to Tuesday night from Wednesday night. February’s calendar should be finalized by mid week this week.

Thanks again for everyone’s support and GO THUNDER.
