ASA Boston Championship Results!

The Quicksilver had a great run in their first real tournament of the season. The first tournament in Lowell was shortened due to the rain. The team went 2-1 in pool play. Sunday morning they played at 9:45 AM against the Eclipse. The game went into extra innings, until the Quicksilver scored 6 runs in the top of the 11th to put the game out of reach. They won 9-3. The second game of the day was played against the Connecticut Mirage. The game was tied 4-4 in the seventh, which sent the Quicksilver into extra innings again. The Mirage managed to score first in the bottom of the 9th inning to win the ball game 5-4. It was a great day and tournament for the Quicksilver, and the season looks extremely promising!

Ayer Summer Blizzard Tournament Champions!!
The Quicksilver had a fantastic weekend at the Ayer Summer Blizzard! Playing six games between Saturday and Sunday, the Quicksilver went 5-1 to win the Championship. Going 2-1 in pool play, the Quicksilver played bright and early on Sunday and defeated the New England Blizzard 9-3 in the first matchup of the day. After a nice team breakfast, the Quicksilver arrived back at the field ready to take on the Central Mass Thunder in the second game of the day. It was an intense game, with nether team scoring a run until the sixth inning. Putting up 2 runs in the top of the sixth, the Quicksilver held the Thunder from scoring in the bottom of the inning, and added 2 more runs in the top of the seventh. They won the game 4-2, and a huge congrats goes out to Ellie Powers who pitched the entire game. The win brought the Quicksilver into the Championship game against the Central Mass Invaders. The Quicksilvers bats continued to stay hot, driving in 10 runs with huge homeruns and triples from Katie Rufo, Kylie Boyle, Mollie Watson, and Dominique Ortiz. In all it was a great weekend, and the girls look forward to bringing that momentum into the Stars and Stripes Showcase this weekend in Warwick Rhode Island!

Great Run At Nationals in Florida!!
The Quicksilver made the trip down to Clermont, Florida in July to compete at the Fast Sports Nationals. The Quicksilver went 3-2 in pool play, defeating 2 teams from Florida and one from Lousiana. Unfortunately the Quicksilver was defeated early in double elimination, falling in two tough games. The day started with a back and forth battle with the New Jersey Fury, before losing 9-8, and being unable to score a runner on second in the last inning. They then went on to play against the Texas Lethal Weapon Gold, and couldn't quite get the bats rolling, losing the game 5-2. Although dissapointed with the results, the Quicksilver had a great run, and competed against some great competition.

Barbara Hamilton Memorial Tournament Champions!
The Quicksilver came back strong from Florida, and went undefeated, winning 6 games to take home the gold at the Barbara Hamilton Memorial Tournament in Hudson, NH. The team started out shakey on Saturday, almost losing the first game to the Maine Thunder. An early injury to starting pitcher Ellie Powers, on a line drive to the wrist, caused her to spend the day in the ER while Katie Rufo came in strong to finish the game. Finally getting the bats going late in the game, the Quicksilver won 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. They then played like how they knew they could, breezing by the New England Hardliners and The New England Blizzard, winning both games 9-1. A strong pitching performance by Katie Rufo, and a great job relieving by Alex Fantasia helped the Quicksilver overcome Ellie's injury. On Sunday, they had a first round bye, and defeated the Dirt Dawgs in the first round they played. The Quicksilver then found themselves matched up again against the Maine Thunder. Losing 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Quicksilver didn't give up without a fight, battling back to score three runs that inning, and another two in the bottom of the seventh. The comeback had them fired up for the championship game against the Hudson Heat. They defeated them 6-4 in a great back and forth game. Overall it was a great tournament, and the Quicksilver hung tough, overcoming injuries and missing players.

Battle at Burnham Runners Up!
The Quicksilver competed at the Battle at Burnham this weekend in Methuen MA. They started out stong on Friday night, defeating the New England Hardliners 11-5. Unfortunately the Quicksilver fell flat on Saturday, losing both games. Dissapointed in the pool play results, the girls came back ready to play on Sunday. The first matchup was against the Boston Batbusters, and they won 5-1. A great pitching performance by Ellie Powers, who is now back on the field with a banaged wrist after the previous weekends injury, held the Batbusters from scoring. And a crushed 3 RBI triple by Jenn Adamson, gave the girls a good lead. The next game was an intense 2-1 win against the Diamond Gems. Another great performance by Ellie, held the Gems to only one run. The Quicksilver managed to squeak out enough runs, with Katie Rufo scoring both RBI's on key hits. The semifinals, Katie Rufo took the mound to relieve Ellie, and did a great job allowing only 4 runs in a mercy ruled 12-4 win. Several hits by everyone allowed for a quick game. The finals were played against the Merrimack Valley Vipers, a team the Quicksilver previously defeated earlier in the season. A congrats to the Vipers for coming a long way and winning the tournament. The Quicksilver had multiple hits but stranded too many runners on base, and lost the game 3-2. Another great performance by Ellie Powers in her third game of the day. Overall it was a good weekend. Also a Happy 17th Birthday Weekend to Alex Fantasia (Friday August 2nd), and Mollie Watson (Sunday August 4th.)

Ending the Season with a Bang! 6-0 Undefeated Champions!
The Quicksilver completed their tournament season this weekend at the NSA Worth Showcase in Dracut, MA. Out of a 20 team tournament, the Quicksilver placed 1st, winning six straight games. With a rainout game on Friday, the Quicksilver won two games on Saturday against the Mass Storm 8-4, and the Mass Drifters Elite 6-0. Placing as a fifth seed, the Quicksilver got a first round bye, and found themselves matched up again against the Mass Drifters Elite. The bats went hot on both ends, and a tight 10-9 win kept them game intense in all 7 innings. Congrats to the Drifters coming back on an impressive 10-4 lead by the Quicksilver. It just goes to show the game is never over! The second game against the Middlesex Crossfire was a quick 2-0 win. Ellie Powers threw a no hitter on the mound, and the Quicksilver squeaked in enough hits to take the lead. The third game of the day was played against the older Middlesex Crossfire team. Jumping on us early, the Crossfire hit a 3 run homerun in the first inning. Not to be outmatched, the Quicksilver quickly loaded the bases in the second, setting up Ellie Powers for her second GRANDSLAM of the year! Feeding off the hit, the Quicksilver went on to add two more runs, and held the Crossfire to a 6-5 win. This brought the ladies into their final game of the season. The Championship was played against the Central Mass Invaders. Hitting throughout the lineup led to a mercy ruled 13-3 win after four innings. Although happy to win, it was a bittersweet ending that brought both smiles and tears. Congrats on a pheonomenal season ladies! The Quicksilver will be back on the diamond to play some fall tournaments, and then will start winter ball in Novemeber.
