Loons Visit Northeast Fields

On Wednesday, June 4th the Great Lakes Loons surprised our FNWLL/NELL junior league by “taking over” a Juniors game on Servinski Sod Field located at the Northeast Complex.   At approximately 5:45PM, Lou E. Loon and approximately a dozen staff members from the Loons organization poured out of the scoreboard booth, surprising players and fans alike.   The Loons’ staff ran the scoreboard and PA system, introducing the players and providing play-by-play updates and music/sound effects to entertain the crowd throughout the entire game.   Between innings, they held their normal array of on-field games and contests and handed out coupons to the crowd for several local eating establishments.  Prior to the game, they presented the FNWLL/NELL  Junior & Senior League with a donation for $7500 on behalf of  the Michigan Baseball Foundation which will be used to purchase a new riding lawnmower for the Larkin Field Complex.  The players, coaches and fans all had a fantastic evening! A few more pictures can be seen in the Album.

We would like to sincerely thank the entire Loons organization for giving us a very special night of baseball AND for their generous support of our new Junior/Senior League fields at the Larkin Complex.

First Half Seniors Session Cancelled/REFUND

Unfortunately there will only be a second half Senior season due to lack of first half teams.

This was not unexpected due to High School players not eligible for 1st half play. Our league had enough kids to fill two teams and Freeland had a partial team. Our board/committee did not feel this would provide a quality baseball experience by playing the same two teams over & over. Thus, have decided we will offer only the second season of play starting in the later part of May & ending late June. This second half season will have 7-8 teams, including three Midland teams. Other teams will be from Freeland, Sanford, & Swan Valley. If desired, 14 year olds may go down to play Juniors at 54’ pitching distance & 80’ bases instead of the 60/90 in Seniors but would not be allowed to move to a Sr team for 2nd half as this would create an inbalance in Jr teams that play one season May-June.

Regarding the financial implications of not having a first season, Carol Cushman will handle refunding monies. If you signed up for the first season only, you will receive a $55 refund. If you signed up for both seasons, you will get a $40 refund.  Action needed from you:

1. E-mail Carol Cushman at and state your child’s name/address/date of birth

2. Indicate if you want:

A)a refund. If a refund is desired, advise name check should be made out to and the address to send it to.

B)Desire it to be donated to the league to go towards the new fields

C)or if 14 years old by 30APR13, wish to move down to Jrs and play the full season (May-June) at Jr level. Note: You cannot move up to Sr level play for the second half.

We are sorry for this change and look forward to your child playing the second season with us.
