North Boise Little League: Parents

VOLUNTEERING
Our Little League is strictly a VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. There is not one paid person involved, from the President to the Umpires. Activities provided would not be available without the help of volunteers. We trust that each and every participating family will contribute two to four hours to team or league activities. Please indicate on your registration form the are in which you will volunteer, or let the coach know how you can help your team.

Not every person has the time to be a manager, coach, board member or team parent. However, there are plenty of areas where everyone can contribute in some small way. JUST ASK!! Before you say, "Why don't they..." and follow it with a complaint, remember the "they" is really "YOU"! Ask yourself, "What have I done to make it better?" IF EVERYONE DOES A LITTLE, NO ONE HAS TO DO A LOT. Remember, our league is for your child.

Scorekeepers
Those paretns or siblings of players who decide to be a scorekeeper for the team are also a very valuable part of Little League. To help prepare you for your job, there are clinics offered through the district. The scorekeeping clinic is a one-night only class. Dates and times are to be announced.

Snack Shack
Your team will be assigned a date and time to work at the Snack Shack. If the volunteers from the assigned team do not show up to work, the Snack Shack will not be opened and the League (your players) miss that fundraising opportunity. When assigned to snack duty, volunteers should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to game time and need to remain until their relief arrives, or all games have concluded and players have had a chance to purchase snacks. The concession manager is in charge of opening and closing the stand. They may also assign a team parent to perform this task. PLEASE support your league's Snack Shack.

HOW TO ENJOY A LITTLE LEAGUE GAME
To enjoy a Little League game at its best, bring a comfortable chair, cushion, or blanket to make the stands more comfortable, your wallet to support the concession stand, team spirit, enthusiasm, comfortable clothes, and the soft voice of encouragement for youngsters who are trying their best. Managers and coaches give hours and hours of time and also do their best-not only for the individual player but for the team as well. Umpires, too, are human. They will make mistakes on occasion, but remember they are doing their best. Don't be quick to find fault in the work of others unless or until you have walked in their shoes. It is easy to be on the outside looking in, you really don't know how much an unkind word or action can hurt a player, an adult volunteer, or the team.

Remembering at all times that these players are children and are trying to do their best, please leave any trace of obnoxious behavior or personality at home. Youth sports have been criticized for years and many of the reasons have centered on "overzealous" parents. Don't have anyone label YOU as one. If a problem arises on the field, let your manager handle it. If you find it necessary to discuss a problem with the coach, do so in private or over the phone.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING:
* Alcoholic beverages (we will ask you to leave the field area)
* Dogs (not even on a leash)
* Skateboards/bikes
* Any other item that might pose a danger to other fans or players
* Tobacco products of any kind

NO SMOKING IS ALLOWED AT OR ON LITTLE LEAGUE FIELDS

INSURANCE AND SAFETY
The Little League Insurance program is designed to afford protection to all participants at the most economical cost to the local league. It can be used to supplement other insurance carried under a family policy or insurance provided by the parent's employer. If there is no other coverage, Little League Insurance, which is purchased by the league and not the parent, provides benefits for all covered injury treatment costs up to the maximum stated benefits. If a child suffers an injury during Little League practices or games, please contact the message center for filing information, and advise the Manger or Umpire of the injury. Reporting of accidents has a time limit, so PLEASE REPORT IT PROMPTLY.

The batting cages at various fields are for the use of Little League. Players must wear a batting helmet and use the "L" screen when using the cage. If there has been vandalism to the cage, please contact a board member and refrain from using the cage. If your child is abusing the cage, i.e. climbing on it or using it in an improper manner, we will not be responsible for the injury. If you see an unsafe condition, or witness an unsafe act, please notify the board IMMEDIATELY. Help us take care of our facilities and equipment. This helps keep your child safe.
