North Alabama Vipers: Welcome

Thursday, December 7
Welcome to the North Alabama Vipers web site.

Vipers Will Change Focus In 2007
After five successful years of competing on a national level the North Alabama Vipers will compete on a more local level in 2007. The team has compiled a winning percentage of over 77% collecting 328 victories and several tournament championships over a five year span. Four of the original players were together on this team for the five seasons and many others for three or more seasons. This type of commitment is not found often at the Elite level of travel baseball and these four young men are Grant Bennett, Landon Boggs, Chandler Brock, and Nick Masonia. We have enjoyed the victories over the years but more than that, the coaches along with the players and their families have enjoyed and continue to enjoy the many friendships that have been formed across the country. Though we are excited about our new opportunities playing American Legion baseball with the majority of our team returning, we will miss the competition and times spent with our baseball friends across the Southeast. We want to recognize the accomplishments of this special group of players in 2006 and in years past, but we also want to tell our friends thanks and we hope to stay in touch over the years.

Elite 24 Results

Game #1 - The Vipers won their first pool game over the Broward Bulldogs 14-10 to open pool play at the Elite 24. The team had some "first game" errors which lead to 7 unearned runs but the Vipers bats provided enough scoring to overcome the poor defensive performance and seal a solid victory.

Tuesday - Game #2 The Vipers polished their defense up a little in game two and provided plenty of run support to excellent pitching performances by starter Michael Gunn and Johnny Keith who closed the game out. The Vipers bats were hot as they scored early and often on the way to a 19-3 victory over the Southern California Angels.

Wednesday - Bracket Game #1 The Vipers faced the Beaver Valley Red and had to come from behind in the seventh inning to win after leading 5-0. The Vipers got excellent pitching performances from Grant Bennett and Justin Willis. Final score 7-6.

Wednesday - Bracket Game #2 The Vipers faced the Houston Angels in their second game of the double elimination portion of the tournament. Costly errors along with some key hits by the Angels left the Vipers down 6-0 after one inning. The team never gave up and the bats heated up to lead the Vipers to a 16-7 victory. Justin Willis, Mitch Mitchell, and Colton Simbeck handled the pitching duties.

Thursday - Bracket Game #3 The Vipers dropped their first game of the tournament to the Star Maker Stingrays by a score of 7-6. This forces the Vipers to win three on Friday to advance to the final four on Saturday.

Friday - Vipers were eliminated from the tournament by the Houston Angels losing by a score of 11-5. The Vipers finished the tournament with a 4-2 record.
