Tournament Rules

 

Procedures

Team coaches or representatives must report to the Tournament Check-In Tent at Opechee Park, Laconia 1 HOUR BEFORE GAME TIME OF YOUR FIRST GAME and provide

1.       Proof of ASA Registration (necessary for ASA sanctioned tournaments). We will register teams for ASA ($15 fee charged by NH-ASA)

2.       Insurance Certificate

3.       Proof of Birth for all players. (Birth Certificates, Drivers Licenses, ASA ID cards, and adoption papers are acceptable proof of birth).

The tournament director reserves the right to hold these packets during the tournament. .  IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PICK THEM UP WHEN YOUR TEAM HAS FINISHED THE TOURNAMENT.

 

An information packet for each team will be at the check-in tent also, with updated schedule (changes can occur), area information, line-up cards, etc.

 

Game Rules  and Procedures

ASA RULES WILL BE FOLLOWED IN ADDITION TO THE FOLLOWING:

1.       No infield or batting practice is allowed on the playing field.

2.       Both teams must submit a lineup card with FIRST & LAST NAMES, & SHIRT NUMBERS to the umpire and opposing team 15 minutes before game time. In the absence of an official scorer, the home team’s book is official.

3.       All Substitutions will be reported to the home plate umpire.

4.       The home team is responsible for reporting the score to the Tournament Tent at Opechee Park.

5.       THE GAME OFFICIALS ON THE PLAYING FIELD WILL RESOLVE PROTESTS BEFORE THE GAME WILL BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE.  THE UIC’S DECISION IS FINAL. NO PROTESTS WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER THE GAME IS COMPLETED.

6.       Should any game be suspended due to weather or unusual conditions, it will be resumed at the point of suspension.  See Rain Policy.

7.       Game time is forfeit time for all games if teams do not meet ASA Rules of eligibility.

8.       Please clean out the dugout after each game.

9.       No smoking or consumption of alcoholic beverages is allowed at any of the tournament sites.

 

Tournament Format

Teams will play three games in pool play for seeding in Sunday’s single-elimination round. Champions and runners-up will receive trophies. Players on championship teams will also receive individual trophies.

1.       The Mercy Rule is in effect for the tournament: 15 runs after 3rd Inning and 8 runs after 5th.

 

Pool Play

1.       Home Team will be decided in all games by a double coin toss at least 15 minutes prior to game time. 

2.       A ninety-minute time limit will be used in all games except the championship games, which have not time limit. The umpire will start the clock in each game and notify teams of the start time. No inning shall start after 85 minutes from the start time. The international tie-breaker will be used in pool play within the time limit. Pool play games may end in a tie.

3.       The mercy rule is in effect for the tournament: 15 runs after 3rd inning and 8 runs after 5th inning.

 

Single-elimination Seeding

The Tournament Staff, based on the following, shall determine the official order of finish in qualifying pool play:

  1. 2 Points for Win and 1 Point for a Tie.
  2. If a tie exists, teams will be ranked according to which team won head to head (if only two teams are tied).
  3. If a tie still exists, teams shall be ranked according to fewest runs allowed per game.
  4. Coin Flip

 

Single-elimination Play

  1. During single elimination, the tiebreaker will begin in the top of the eighth or when the time limit expires.
  2. The mercy rule and time formats are in effect as outlined in Pool Play. There is no time limit for championship games.
  3. The higher seed team will be the home team unless both teams have the same seed. A double coin toss will be conducted for the championship game.

 

RAIN FORMAT

  1. In the event of rain or any cause, which interrupts a game, the game must be resumed at the exact point where it was stopped, time permitting.
  2. If time is lost due to rain, pool play will be cancelled and single elimination will begin.
  3. The Tournament Staff will decide rain format in single elimination round.
  4. The Tournament Staff may change the Tournament Format at any time due to weather.
  5. If rain stops any game, the score at the end of the last completed inning will be the final score. In the championship round, if the game cannot be continued, and the score is tied, a double coin flip will decide the winner.
  6. If any game is not played due to rain or any other legitimate reason, as determined by the tournament director.
  7. In pool play the game will be scored 0-0 and end as a tie.
  8. In the championship round a double coin flip will decide  the winner.
  9. If rain forces postponement, play will continue as much as possible. The tournament director reserves the right to call any game having progressed to the time limit, or to reduce the number of innings for a completed game to try and keep on schedule.
