HEAT CAPTURES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Riding the team’s continued dominating pitching, as well as some timely and at times explosive hitting, the Nor Cal Heat went 4-0 to take the 2008 ASA Women’s “A” National Championship on August 8-10 in Salem, Oregon.  The Heat started the twelve-team double elimination event with a solid 7-2 win over NW Glacier from the state of Washington on Saturday morning.  The Heat’s second game on Saturday was an exciting 1-0 victory over our Nor Cal Travel League nemesis CA Goldrush.

On Sunday, the ladies downed the So Cal Scorpions 8-1 in the winner’s bracket final, and then defeated the Scorpions 3-1 in an exciting Championship game.  The Heat placed eight players on the first team All America team, including tournament MVP Cindy Ball and the tournament’s top hitter and home run champion Jamie Schloredt.  Others on the first team included Torrey Schroeder, Katie Pleski, Kris Zacher, Courtney Lewis, Amy Hillel and Amanda Fleischman.

Complete game stories have been added to our “Schedules” link on the left.  Go to 2008 Nationals and click on the individual "Game" link to view the stories for each game.  Additionally, stats from the nationals have been added to the “Handouts” link on the left.  Once again I’d like to thank each and every player that played for us this year and congratulate all of you for the great season.  The team finished the year with a 22-2 record, and of course a National Championship.

HEAT HEADED TO NATIONALS

Things are moving forward on the team's plans to participate in the ASA Women's "A" National Championships, August 8-10 in Salem, Oregon.  We have picked up three new sponsors, Jake's Restaurant, Mizuno and BDO.  We have added these companies to our "Sponsors" that can be accessed by the link on the left hand side.  Thanks to Courtney for all of her hard work in finding sponsors.  More updated information will be added here when available.

HEAT SWEEPS WEEK 4, TAKES LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

In another weekend of dominance, the Nor Cal Heat swept all five of their games on the final weekend of the Northern California Women’s Fast Pitch Travel League, and with the help of a scheduling quirk, were able to knock off the first place team and move atop the league standings on July 19-20 in Burlingame.  For the season, the Heat finished with an 18-2 record, edging the CA Goldrush for the top spot in the standings.

For the weekend, the Heat allowed one earned run while amassing 40 of their own and piling up a total of 68 hits.  The only negative for the weekend was spotty defense, which allowed for the opponents to score 6 unearned runs in the five games.  The weekend started with 8-0 and 10-0 wins over the Shakers and the Cal Aces on Saturday. Due to the fact that a team was not able to field enough players to play against the CA Goldrush on Sunday morning, the Heat were happy to take the game instead of their regularly scheduled 6:15 PM game, which was cancelled when the scheduled opponent was not able to stick around that late.  The Heat used the opportunity to avenge the loss they suffered earlier in the season to the front running Goldrush, and took advantage of the opportunity with a thrilling come-from-behind 5-3 victory.  The Heat followed up that win with a 22-2 blasting of Tucker Construction, and then a hard fought 5-2 win over the West Bay Nuggets.

To view individual stories on each game, click on the “Schedules” link on the left hand side, and then click on the game score for each game.  The team’s final stats have also been updated.  You can view them by clicking on the “Handouts” link on the left hand side, and then click on 2008 Stats.  Thanks to everyone that participated as a Heat player this year.  The team will be heading to Salem, Oregon to participate in the ASA Nationals on August 8-10.  This site will be updated after nationals.

HEAT DOMINATES WEEK 3

The Heat were in dominating form for week three of the ASA Northern California Women’s Fast Pitch Travel League, winning all five games, allowing just one run, while scoring 39 runs of their own.  The weekend was marked with pitching perhaps never before seen in the five year old league.  While allowing just one run was a feat in itself, the fact that the Heat pitching crop only permitted 9 hits in the five games was just amazing. The Heat started off Saturday with a 4-0 victory over the Shakers, followed by a 7-0 win over the West Bay Nuggets, before ending the day with a 6-0 whitewash of the Cyclone.

On Sunday, the stellar pitching continued and the Heat broke out the bats in taking a 10-0 win over Tucker Construction and a 12-1 win over the Runnin’ Rebels.  To view individual stories on each game, please click on the “Schedules” link on the left and then click on the score of each individual game.  The team’s stats have also been updated.  To view the current team stats, click on the “Handouts” link on the left and then click on the “2008 Stats” link.  One weekend left for the second place Heat, July 19-20 in Burlingame.

HEAT CATCHES FIRE IN WEEK TWO, GOING 5-0

The second weekend of the Nor Cal ASA Women’s Fast Pitch Travel league was a very successful one for the Nor Cal Heat.  The team went 5-0 on the weekend to move into second place in the official league standings.  The Heat started Saturday with a 12-1 win over the Cyclone.  Later that day they won a nail biter, 1-0 over the West Bay Nuggets.

On Sunday, the Heat picked up three more wins, 7-2 over the Shakers, 4-1 over previously undefeated Inferno and finishing up with a final inning 4-2 victory over Tucker Construction.  Complete game stories can be found on our “Schedules” link on the left.  Click on each game score to read the highlights.  Updated pitching and batting statistics are now available on the “Handouts” link on the left.  Next up, Turlock on June 28-29.

HEAT GOES 3-2 IN OPENING WEEKEND

The Heat had some ups and downs during the opening weekend of the Nor Cal ASA Women’s Fast Pitch Travel League.  For the most part, the team received strong pitching, and in a couple of games, hit the ball very well.  The weekend started with a 4-1 win over the Nor Cal Assault, followed by a disappointing 5-3 loss to Inferno.  Saturday’s action ended with a 7-1 win over the Aces.

On Sunday, the Heat split their two games, winning the first 8-5 over Tucker Construction but losing their second game 8-6 to CA Goldrush.  Please click on the “Schedule” link on the left and the click on each game’s score there to read complete stories about each game.  Additionally, click on the "Handouts" link on the left to review the current team batting and pitching stats.  Action continues this weekend in Tracy.

HEAT BATS GO COLD ON FINAL LEAGUE WEEKEND

The Nor Cal Heat had a disappointing final weekend of the ASA Northern California Women’s Fast Pitch League on July 21-22 in Tracy, winning two games (one via forfeit) and losing three. As the result, the Heat finished the league with an overall record of 9-10-1. The team wasted a great pitching performance by Vanessa Fitzgerald in the weekend’s opening game, dropping a 2-1 decision to Napa Goldrush. Courtney Lewis pitched a two hit shutout in the second game as the Heat downed the West Bay Nuggets 2-0. Saturday’s final game was a 7-0 forfeit win over the Diamonds.

On Sunday the team did not pitch, hit or field well, dropping both games, the first 9-0 to the Goldrush and the second 9-2 to the CA Aces. To view game stories on the games, click on the SCHEDULES link on the left, and then click on the individual game score. The team’s final statistics have been updated and can be viewed by clicking on the HANDOUTS link on the left.

I would like thank all of you who played for us this summer and hope to see you again next summer. Have a great year, and best of luck.

HEAT GOES UNDEFEATED IN WEEK THREE

The Nor Cal Heat showed some timely hitting and clutch pitching to finish the third weekend of the ASA Nor Cal Women’s Fast Pitch League with a 4-0-1 record, raising the team’s overall league record to 7-7-1. The weekend started off with the Heat taking a close 6-5 win over the Diamonds. In a double header later on Saturday, the team tied with the West Bay Nuggets 6-6, before rebounding with at 10-1 mercy win over Inferno.

In Sunday’s two games, the Heat downed the Napa Goldrush 10-5 before blasting the CA Aces 13-2 in another run rule shortened game. Complete game stories have been added to the “SCHEDULES” link on the left. Click on the individual game score to view the story. Also, the batting and pitching stats have been updated on the “HANDOUTS” link on the left. I have tried to load some photos that Keith took this past weekend but it doesn't seem to be working. Try clicking on "ABLUMS" on the left to see if they load for you. Just one more weekend left, July 21-22 in Tracy.

HEAT TURNED UP IN WEEK TWO

The Nor Cal Heat, riding three strong pitching performances from Vanessa Fitzgerald and some increased hitting punched, played five thrilling games in week two of the ASA Nor Cal Women’s Fast Pitch League on June 23-24 in Citrus Heights. The team went 2-3 on the weekend to raise their overall league record to 3-7.

The weekend stared off with a tough 7-6 loss to Napa Goldrush followed by a 7-4 win over Inferno. On Sunday, the Heat lost a heartbreaker to the undefeated Goldrush 3-0 and a tough 6-3 game to Nor Cal Assault. But the weekend ended on a positive note with a great 5-1 win over the West Bay Nuggets. Things look promising for the final two weekends, as the Heat should be fielding a full roster and looking to improve on their game results. Click on the “SCHEDULES” link on the left, then click on the game scores to access stories on all five of the games from the weekend. Also, the team stats have been updated on the “HANDOUTS” link on the left.

HEAT COLD ON OPENING WEEKEND

The Nor Cal Heat got off to a rough opening weekend of ASA Nor Cal Women’s Fast Pitch travel league play, finishing with a 1-4 record. Absent a couple players and needing time to kick off the rust, the Heat dropped games to Inferno (6-2), West Bay Nuggets (4-1), Napa Goldrush (8-0), and Goldrush (10-2) before claiming a forfeited 7-0 win over the Diamonds.

Michelle Beach and Crystal Rizzuto had great weekends at the plate, with Michelle going 6 for 8 and Crystal finishing the weekend 3 for 5. Vanessa Fitzgerald pitched well in spite of taking two of the team’s four losses. Vanessa threw 15 innings, recorded a 3.27 ERA, and struck out 8 batters. Click on the "SCHEDULES" link to the left and then click on each game's score to read individual stories on each of the four games played.

Heat Celebrates Championship
Nor Cal Heat Burns Competition Taking Women’s Class B Fast Pitch Title

(from ASA press release)

LANCASTER, Calif. --- One of eight teams from California in the 11 team field, the Nor Cal Heat (Manteca, Calif.) Women’s Class B fast pitch team collected the 2005 National title, August 11-13, in Lancaster, Calif. The champs recorded a 5-1 overall record thanks to five first-team All-Tournament players, including batting champion Jaisa Creps. In its six games the Heat turned it on outscoring opponents 46-13.

A 16-0 dominating opening game win against NW Wildfire (Hayden, Id.) got things going and continued with another shutout performance in game two over San Diego Elite (San Diego, Calif.) (8-0). Meeting their foes from the south, Nor Cal soon defeated the Condors (La Crescenta, Calif.) 4-2 in its first of three eventual meetings.

The Heat continued to blaze through the opposition with a 12-5 thumping of Cal Goldrush (San Mateo, Calif.) before meeting the Condors again in the final on Sunday. Pushing the “if” game after a 3-2 Condors rally, Nor Cal buckled down taking home the championship trophy with a 4-3 victory in the final game.

Judy Hornsby (third base), Yasmin Mossadagi (outfield), Mindy Cowles (utility),

Jaisa Creps (catcher), and Megan Roark (pitcher) represented the Heat on the first team All-American selections, while Michelle Beach (second base), Jackie Gerhke (shortstop), and Michelle Bochenski (pitcher) received second-team honors.

SANTA FE SPRINGS INFO TO BE ADDED SOON

We are in the process of writing stories on our games this past weekend in Santa Fe Springs and hope to have them posted here later this week. We also have a picture or two to post.

HEAT GOES 4-2 IN BURLINGAME

The Nor Cal Heat concluded the Northern California ASA Women’s Fast Pitch Travel League in Burlingame on July 23-24 winning four of the six games the team played. The weekend’s games resulted in the team finishing league play with a 15-4-1 record and unofficially winning the league for the second consecutive year.

What made the wins perhaps more impressive was that the team had only nine players for each game, with the exception of the weekend’s final, when the team added two past players to provide a little “bench” strength. Due to the late notification of a team dropping from the weekend’s games, the Heat played six games on the weekend, instead of the usual five.

On Saturday, the Heat started with a 3-1 win over Goldrush Blue, and a 4-2 win over Touch-em-all before losing a 9-1 game to last year’s ASA Women’s Major runner-up, StormUSA. On Sunday, the Heat dropped a tough 5-3 game to the West Bay Nuggets before rebounding with wins over Mize Gold (7-1) and Goldrush Red 3-0. Special thanks to Lisa for stepping up and playing some for the team this weekend when we were short. To see line scores and stories on each of these games, click on the “Schedules” link on the left, then click on the “Burlingame” tab.

GRAPETTES TO SPONSOR NOR CAL HEAT

The Nor Cal Heat is pleased to announce that the California Grapettes have become an official sponsor of the team. The Grapettes, one of the state’s finest and most respected youth fast pitch softball organizations, will be making the move to support women’s fast pitch, in their on-going effort to promote the sport and provide quality opportunities for females to participate in the game.

“We have a couple of former Grapettes players on our team,” manager Floyd Lewis stated, “and I think that the decision to sponsor our team shows their commitment to provide continuing support to young ladies who still love the game, but have very limited options to play.” The Grapettes are a non-profit organization that fields competitive youth softball teams in the 10 and Under through 18 and Under Gold divisions.

The Nor Cal Heat looks forward to developing a long term relationship with the Grapettes, a relationship that will be of benefit both to their organization and our team.

The schedule and bracket for the So Cal ASA Worth Challenge has been added to our "Handouts" link to the left. The information is an Excel spreadsheet and by clicking on the tabs on the bottom of the document you can view both the Pool Play schedule and the tournament bracket.

WORTH CHALLENGE INFORMATION ADDED

We have just added hotel information and directions to the park for the So Cal ASA Worth Challenge tournament on July 30-31 in Santa Fe Springs. Click on the "Handouts" link to the left to view these items. Contact Floyd if you have any questions or need additional information.

HEAT FINISHES HAYWARD 4-1

With every game, the Heat’s bats warmed up, which left the team’s opponents ducking for cover Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, the slow warm up resulted in a 1-0 loss to Goldrush Blue in our first game on Saturday, which was followed by a 2-0 win in our second game against the West Bay Nuggets. The team tallied three in our first game on Sunday to create a 3-1 win over the Indins, which was followed by 16-1 and 18-0 wins over Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Goldrush Red. The team finished the weekend 4-1, running our overall record to 11-2-1 on the season, and unofficially still remaining in first place in the Nor Cal Women’s Travel League.

A lot of special thanks for the weekend. First, a thanks to Sam Ducato for filling in as coach in the absence of Floyd and Jay. We wish he had more time between his work and commitments to USA Softball to help us more. Then a special thanks to Kristen Neil and Jennifer Fryou for coming out, pitching a little, and handling some hitting and defensive duties. We really appreciate your contributions to the team.

Game stories have been added to our site. To review game results and game stories, click on Schedules, then on the score for each game. See you all in Burlingame.

HEAT ADDS NEW SPONSOR

On Friday, July 1st, the Nor Cal Heat announced the addition of a new sponsor for the team. Information on the sponsor will be posted here after July 11, 2005.

MERCY, WHAT A WEEKEND!

The Nor Cal Heat demonstrated excellence in all phases of the game during the second weekend of Nor Cal Women’s Fast Pitch Travel League play on June 25-26 in Vacaville. Not only did the team go 4-0 on the weekend, all four wins were by the “run rules.” The weekend started with the team downing Mize Gold 11-2, followed by 11-1 and 11-0 wins over the West Bay Nuggets and Touch-em-all. On Sunday, the Heat defeated Goldrush-Blue by an 8-0 score in 5 innings. Thanks for the great job this weekend to all the ladies. To view stories on each individual game, click on “Schedule,” then click on each individual game

HEAT PLAYER HEADED TO ITALY

Heat player Nicole Delfino has been accepted to play for the Italian National team, which will require her to leave this week for Italy. We want to wish Nicole well, thank her for her contribution to the team, and hope she enjoys her time in Europe.

HEAT STARTS LEAGUE PLAY 3-1-1

Nor Cal Heat began the 2005 Northern California Women’s Fast Pitch Travel League on June 11-12 in Vacaville, CA. Due to a last minute cancellation by one of the league teams, the Heat stepped it up and actually fielded teams for seven games during the weekend. A special thanks to all of the players for helping out to insure that the teams in the league got in their scheduled number of games.

Due to the fact that we had players playing for and against us, we did not keep team stats for the weekend, but we will keep and maintain stats from here on out. In our first game of the weekend, the Heat downed the Goldrush Blue 3-1. Megan Roark pitched an excellent game. Several players came up big at the plate, including Meghan Roath, Judy Hornsby and Jessica Guillen.

With the cancelled team creating a revamped schedule, the team faced the Goldrush Blue again in their second game of the day, this time coming back to forge at 4-4 tie with the Bay Area based team. Timely hitting by Jaisa Creps, Megan Delgado and Kelli McCollister helped the team come back twice to keep the Heat’s record unblemished. The offense hit high gear in our third game against Touch-Em-All, as the ladies pounded out a solid 7-0 win over the Reno based team.

Megan Roark picked up the win, with three innings of shut-out relief by Michele Bochenski. The hits were many, as again Jaisa Creps showed strong form at the plate, as did Kristy Ballinger and Megan Roark. The only loss of the weekend came in Sunday morning’s game against the West Bay Nuggets, a 2-0 shut-out. Megan Roark pitched very well, giving up two first inning runs, one unearned. The team’s bats were cold but both Courtney Lewis and Kristy Ballinger were able to put hits on the board.

The team’s final game of the weekend against the Goldrush Red was an exciting and close match, that was eventually won by the Heat by a 3-1 score. Michele Bochenski threw the complete game, giving up just one first inning unearned run. At the plate, both Courtney Lewis and Nicole Delfino blasted triples, and Ashley Hartley came up with a big bases loaded single to drive in a run. We are happy that Dani Eakins, who was injured in our second game on Saturday is doing fine, and may be ready to play in our next league games on June 25-26.

WELCOME

The Nor Cal Heat is ready to kick off the 2005 season, and this website has been developed to keep players, their parents and our fans updated on the team and team activities. First we would like to thank the two sponsors we currently have on board for their generous support. Schutt Sports is again our official equipment sponsor, assisting us with the equipment necessary to field a team. New this year as a sponsor is Evans Sporting Goods who assisted the team in our uniform needs. Thank you so much for your support; we hope to see you at one of our upcoming events.

This website will be updated on a regular basis, and we encourage the players to check it often for updated information and possible schedule changes. Currently included on this site is our league schedule, the schedule of all upcoming events, maps to our league fields and a team roster. As the players are aware, in addition to the Northern California Women’s Fast Pitch Travel League, the team is planning on participating in the Worth Challenge WFP tournament on July 30-31 in Santa Fe Springs, CA and ASA Nationals on August 11-14 in Lancaster, CA. If you have any questions concerning the team, our schedule or upcoming events, please contact coach Floyd Lewis at (209) 825-1251. See you on the field.
