"NLAA PARTNERING WITH JIM DIAZ TO GET WILLIAMS PARK SIGN INSTALLED"

NLAA is partnering with Mr. Jim Diaz-Saavedra, a member of the New London Parks and Recreation Commission, on a project that needs the communities help.

The Post Hill Historic District was settled in approximately 1645.  The centerpiece of the district, both visually and historically, is Williams Park.

Recently, the New London Parks Conservancy has spent considerable time and money on improving the park.  Trees now line the walkways, the Nathan Hale statue and memorials are repaired, and new plantings grace the once neglected cornerstone of the Post Hill neighborhood.  In addition to improvements, the park is used by the Multi-Cultural Magnet School, Summer concerts, family, community and social events, and the Annual City Festival in June.  Williams park is now experiencing a renewed since of beauty and city residents have a place for community interaction and peaceful reflection.

What Williams Park lacks is an identifying sign.  A proposed sign has been endorsed by the New London Parks and Recreation Commission, New London Athletic Association, New Landmarks, New London Parks Conservancy, City of New London PWD and Connecticut College.  The bracket and design of the sign are Identical to the Conn College Arboretum sign at the north end of Williams Street.

The price to fabricate and install the sign is nearly $5,000.  The City of New London will provide 50% of the cost.  We are seeking donations from the community for the remaining $2,500.  We also recognize that these are difficult times financially for residents and businesses, so any monetary contribution you make is greatly appreciated.

Please send your tax-deductible donation to New London Athletic Association, 40 Fowler Court, New London CT 06320-3309 and enclose this letter with your donation.  All donors will be recognized in an upcoming press release and at the sign unveiling event.

Thank you for your support of the Post Hill District, Williams Park and the image of the City of New London.
