FAQ's About Our Program, and frequently asked questions:

1.) Question - What equipment do I need to provide my child?

MOST IMPORTANT - PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILDREN WITH PLENTY OF WATER TO EACH PRACTICE & ALL GAMES. CANNOT STRESS THIS POINT ENOUGH! HYDRATE! HYDRATE! HYDRATE!

Answer – Football - You are responsible for providing your child with football cleats (plastic molded type), and athletic supporter. We provide all other equipment. It should be mentioned, though, we only provide one black mouthpiece. Others are available at the concession stand for $1.00 a piece. You may want to stock up on a few. Also-
CLEAR PLASTIC MOUTHPIECES ARE PROHIBITED BY REFEREES. YOUR CHILD WILL BE TAKEN OFF THE FIELD. All Equipment must be returned at season's end. You can keep the game socks though, we don't want them back..........:)

FOOTBALL PRACTICE EQUIPMENT IS HANDED OUT 3RD OR 4TH WEEK IN JULY. DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED.

Answer - Cheerleaders - You are responsible for purchasing cheer shoes. The Cheer Coordinator will set-up a sizing day at the field. Cost of shoes will be between $30-$35. T-shirt and shorts to be worn during practices. Uniforms are provided (2ND- 3RD WEEK IN AUGUST) and must be returned at the end of the season. Girls, you can keep the lollies & socks.......yippie!

2.) Question - I heard I must provide an original birth certificate for my child?
Is this true?

Answer - Yes, Pop Warner requires that we present an original
birth certificate for each player for certification and during regional
playoffs. To help clear up any confusion, this must be an original birth
certificate with a RAISED SEAL. No, this does not need to be the original
certificate that you received after your child was born but, it has to
be one ordered through the city your child was born. This will be held
onto by your child's head coach and handed back to you after certification.
PLEASE, PlEASE...... DO NOT REGISTER YOUR CHILD AND ARGUE WITH US LATER REGARDING HAVING TO PROVIDE THIS. WE DO NOT MAKE THIS RULE, BUT WE ALL MUST ABIDE BY IT.

The good news is, you only have to provide this the first year your son/daughter plays. The bad news is, unfortunately, given this is our first year in Pop Warner, all veteran parents will have to provide an original birth certificate again this year. Sorry guys........

Birth Certificate must be handed to your Child's Coach on the first day of Practice.

3.) Question - I know a physical is required. Tell me about this?

Answer - We will provide all parents with the required Pop Warner Medical Form. Your son/daughter should have a physical within the 2007 calendar year. If say, for example, your child had their last examination in December of 2006, you must get the medical form filled out by your physican and he/she must attach a note stating the child is cleared to play football/cheerleading this season. The physical must have taken place within the year.
We strongly recommend having a physical within the few months prior to the seasonal start!! Safety is key here. Wickford Junction Medical Walk-In does physical examinations for $25 per child.

Medical Form must be handed in to your Child's Coach on the first day of Practice.

4.) Question - When is the first day of practice?

Answer - Practice Begins on Monday, July 30th, 2007.
We practice at McGinn Field on School Street in North Kingstown. All teams except for flag practice 5 nights a week throughout the month of August, Monday through Friday. Flag practices 3 nights (TBA).
All teams except for flag practice 2 1/2 hours. Flag practices are a wee bit shorter.
Once school begins, practices for all teams go to 3 nights a week (TBA).
All teams begin practice at either 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. (TBA).

***Attendance is mandatory at all practices. Both Football & Cheerleading are team sports that require a large group effort. The kids have a short period of time to prepare for the season and a great deal to learn. Please plan all family vacations prior to the season or afterwards.

5.) For your info, games begin the 3rd-4th week in August. Our regular season runs to the end of October. Playoffs, local & regional, can take us right through November. National Play is the first week in December in Orlando, Florida.
(You never know......)

5.) For your info, there will be one large Mandatory Parent Meeting held in July for all cheerleading parents. At this meeting, you will learn your child's initial team placement(subject to change), you will meet your child's coaches and be given schedules, etc. etc. If you miss this meeting, you'll find yourself a bit "in the dark". Please be there.
All Football teams with have a pre-season parent meetings as well.
Dates for all meetings TBA.
