BLUE ROCKS ARE FINALISTS IN THE 2007 OMAHA SLUMPBUSTER!
The Blue Rocks advance to the finals of the 2007 Omaha Slumpbuster!
The Blue Rocks had great success in their first travel tournament of the season. The Rocks attended the 2007 Triple Crown SlumpBuster tournament in Omaha coinciding with the NCAA College World Series.
The Rocks started slow on Monday with two hard fought losses. They lost the first game to the Temecula Titans of California by a score of 10-7. The Rocks mounted a charge in the last inning but fell short. In the second game, the Rocks fell to the Simpsonville Longhorns, 4-3 in extra innings. In both games, the team fought hard and never gave up and with the exception of a one inning lapse, they played outstanding baseball.
Later that night, the opening ceremonies were conducted including an All Star game. Congratulations to Bryan Hanneman, Roman Covey, and Nic Mertes on being selected to the team. Bryan, Roman and Nic were great representatives for our team.
Tuesday was a much better day for the Rocks. In the first game, the Rocks dominated the Romeoville Rattlers of Illinois in a 6-1 win. All three phases of the game came together for the Rocks in the win. The second game was a hard fought 5-4 victory against Victory Baseball of Illinois. With this win the Rocks secured a spot in the Gold bracket and a chance to earn the championship.
Wednesday's semi-final was a rematch between the Rocks and the Longhorns. The Rocks avenged their earlier loss with an 8-6 win. Stellar pitching, defense, and hitting were brought to the game and the Rocks were all set for the Championship!
The Rocks came out flat in the Championship and only showed average defense and pitching, not the stellar version from earlier in the week. That combined with only six hits and the Rocks were sent home with a 6-3 loss at the hands of Victory Baseball. However, in true Rocks style, the Rocks had the bases loaded when the game ended and had the other team on the ropes. In the end, the Rocks just could not deliver the knockout punch.
All in all, it was an outstanding week to be a member of the Rocks Baseball family. The NCAA World Series was a blast. Hopefully the confidence of this week will carry in to the last two tournaments of the 2007 season, the USSSA 10U AAA State Championships in Nevada, MO, and the Triple Crown MOKAN State tournament in Belton, MO.
CONGRATULATIONS BLUE ROCKS!

BLUE ROCKS WIN FIRST TOURNAMENT TITLE IN 2007!
The Blue Rocks are the 2007 American Past-time Tournament Champions!
The Blue Rocks secured the championship title by displaying the pitching and defense that has become standard for the 2007 version of the team. The difference this weekend was the hitting the Blue Rocks displayed throughout the entire roster.
The weekend was topped off with a thrilling come from behind victory against the KC Astros, who had beat the Rocks in pool play. The Rocks batting with the bases empty and two outs in the last inning rallied (see the rally hat picture in the photo album tab) for six runs to take a 9-6 lead. The Rocks defense then sealed the deal in the bottom half of the last inning.
The Rocks ended the weekend with a 4-1 record. CONGRATULATIONS BLUE ROCKS!
