2008-2008 NJYRHA Referee Quick Facts
1) Referees should arrive to game no later than 10-15 minutes prior to game time. All referees should check playing surface for any issues and notify home team representative to take care of issues prior to start of game.
2) Referees should call Home Team Representative for any reason if they will be late or cannot attend a game for emergency reasons. Please do NOT just assume a game is cancelled. Check the phone system, call the home town representative or even local police department for rink information.
3) MAJOR RULE CHANGE: Players in Midget division that receive any combination of 5 penalties shall receive a game misconduct. Players in the Junior or Senior Divisions that receive any combination of 4 penalties in a game shall receive a game misconduct. At the point of game misconduct, the player must be removed from the game immediately.
4) Payment - Officials should be paid immediately following the game. Some towns will provide a voucher, check or cash. If you are not paid on site, please contact the home town representative as soon as possible after your scheduled date to find out about schedule of payment.
5) Referees should email or fax Game Misconduct reports within 12 hours of incident. Please take the white scoresheet and incident report form and report it within 12 hours. This is VERY important for league suspensions and games being played.
6) Forfeit time- 15 minutes past scheduled game time. Please speak to the coach that is short players to start and find out what their location or approximate time of arrival is before you decide to forfeit the game. Remember, we are here to play the games!
7) Attitude and Responsibility: It is the attitude and responsibility of the referees to make sure the game is played under safe conditions and environment. Always referee the game with the players, coaches and your own best interests at hand. Please do not try to dictate the game, but instead teach it to those that have not learned it. Unsafe conditions warrant immediate suspension of the gamer.
