Pete DeRosa jumped on an opportunity to get free, all-edition, sports section newspaper advertising for Ocean County (and Monmouth) by volunteering to assist Phil Hewett with an open house for new seniors wishing to play 50, 60 or 70+ softball. The Open House will be on Saturday, April 7, at Winding River Park in Tom's River, from 10 a.m. till noon. The 12 column inch ad will appear in the sports section of the Asbury Park Press on Saturday, March 24. Participants will be evaluated on throwing, running, fielding, hitting and pitching. Participants will receive priority in being placed on teams in the leagues of their choice, though the location heavily favors Ocean County. Vince Mango placed a little free ad in a Howell paper and got 25 guys and 2 ladies to respond! 17 guys committed to play so he formed a team on the spot! The NJSSA committed $300 and Frank Kardashian offered another $200 to obtain the largest ad possible. New players are asked to call Phil Hewett, 732.925.7997, or email him at pwhewett@msn.com, if they wish to attend.

OCEAN COUNTY 50+ 2006 FINAL SEASON RESULTS
This year our league lost a long time player for Williams Const. team, Bob Perry of Jackson. His personality and smile will be missed.
This year our league tried a different approach to league parity. When an A team played a B. The A team could only score 5 runs per inning {except 7th the open inning}. The B team could score 5 or as many as needed to catch up. It kept games closer, & in one instance the B team won. It looks like this rule will stay in our league for next year.
As you will see by the standings EPA Financial was the dominant team again this year. Freight Liquidators and Scrappers improved but could not stay with the powerhouse EPA team. Many games this year were close but EPA came out on top.
A Division Regular Season Standings
EPA Financial 17 - 1
Freight Liquidators 14 - 6
Scrappers 12 - 8
The B division was fairly even this year. Williams Cont. and Umbrino Const. improved from last year, with the loss of key players and 6 new players Rada Chiropractic had a difficult time this year.
B Division Regular Season Records
Williams Construction 7 - 13
Umbrino Construction 7 - 13
Rada Chiropractic 3 - 15
In the B playoff, Rada Chiropractic got lucky and beat Umbrino's 2 straight in the first round. In the championship round, Williams stopped Rada in 2 games.

OCEAN COUNTY 50+ SENIOR SOFTBALL LEAGUE
Wins Losses
First Place EPA Financial 19 1
Second Place Scrappers 12 8
Third Place Circle Liquors 10 8
Fourth Place Williams Construction 9 9
Fifth Place Lifestyle Chiropractic 8 10
Sixth Place Umbrino Construction 4 14
Powerhouse EPA Financial took the top position in the league once again this year but lost the last game of the season to Lifestyle Chiropractic. The five remaining teams were evenly matched this season, while Umbrino, Lifestyle and Williams have improved with many new players. Scrappers and Circle Liquors have swapped spots for runner-up this year. EPA Financial continues to best the rest of the league, but the games were much closer than last year. The teams from second to sixth place all topped each other at some point during the season, and it looks like some parity is on the way. All six teams had great player improvement and I am glad to report no major injuries due to batted balls.
PLAYOFF FINALS
A Division - EPA Financial beat Scrappers 2 of 3.
B Division - Lifestyle Chiropractic beat Williams Construction 2 of 3
The season is finally over. We had too much rain this year in Ocean County.
