NJSBUA - New Jersey Baseball / Softball Umpires Association: Welcome

WELCOME to the NJSBUA Baseball / Softball High School Officials web site!

The NJSBUA was founded in 1936 and is now 78 Years Old. Our association consists of a dedicated group of men and women officials who are committed to the improvement of Baseball and Softball umpires in the Essex / Morris / Passaic / Somerset / Sussex and Union County conferences we serve.

The NJSBUA is over 500 members strong, we are actively recruiting interested new men and women to increase both our ranks and ability to serve the schools and programs in our area.

Message from the President

Fellow Officials,

Spring is finally here and softball and baseball season is officially opened. I hope every one is prepared even though we didn't get many scrimmages in. Take one game at a time, one inning at a time, one batter at a time and one out at a time. Communicate with your partners. If there are hecklers in the crowd let it go in one ear and out the other, unless it gets really out of control, then have the site manager or coach take care of it. Do not get involved with people or parents in the stands.

I would like to thank Mike Covello and his staff of umpires that put together a successful 3 Man clinic.

I hope we get a lot of sun this year in order to put this new rule in effect. Softball / Baseball players are permitted to wear sunglasses on the field during a game. Neither party is allowed to place them on their cap. Wear them or don't have them in the field. And that also goes for the Umpires too.

We are having a 2 and 3-man mechanics class for baseball on Sunday April 6 at 7pm registration is at 6:30pm. This will be held at Union Little League’s Hall Stadium at 874 Lehigh Ave. Union, NJ 07083. The facility has lights. Dress casual. No umpire equipment will be required.

Enjoy the season and have fun,

Joe Caravano, President
