Niskayuna Baseball Recreation League Playing Levels

The NBL has the following levels:

Cal Ripken Levels:

T-Ball    

4 to 5 year olds.  Hit from tee.  Emphysis on safety, skill development and fun.  54' diamond. Played on the Lower Field 1, and sometimes the GE Tee Ball Field.  Season starts normally end of April or first weekend in May.  Games played on Saturday. 1 game per week.  Typically in the am. Coaches will work with team parents to schedule a practice during the week.

A           

6 to 7 years old.  Utilizes parent pitching.  60' diamond.  Played on the Lower Fields, primarily Field 2, and sometimes the GE Field 1

AA         

8 to 9 years old.  Kids pitch with parent take over after a set amount of pitches.  Older kids will umpire. Standings kept.  Played on the Lower Fields, primarily Field 3, and sometimes GE Field 1

AAA      

10 to 11 year olds, with prior summer 8U All Stars that are 9 years old.  Draft. Kids pitch. Stealing. Umpires. Standings kept. Playoffs. 60' diamond.  46' Pitching Distance.  Played on the Lower Field 4 and sometimes GE Field 1.

Majors   

11 to 12 years olds.  Same as AAA but 70' diamond. 50' Pitching Distance.  Played on the Upper Majors Field, and many times played into the night under the lights.

Babe Ruth Levels:

Babe Ruth  

13 to 15 year olds.  Recreational for Niskayuna residents and those that attend Niskayuna schools. 90' diamond. 60'6" Pitching Distance.  (Like the Major Leagues!) Played on the Babe Ruth field at the Upper field complex, and many times played into the night under the lights.

Senior Babe Ruth   

16 to 18 year olds.  Same as Babe Ruth

Connie Mack/Mickey Mantle Level:

90' Diamond. Similar to Babe Ruth but will extends Recreational play to other teams in the Region.

Travel/All Stars
The league also supports travel teams from U8 to U15 in the Empire State Baseball League.   With  new charters in Connie Mack and Mickey Mantle additional teams may be offered from U16 and above.

Travel and All-Star teams will hold tryouts prior to each session.

Spring is a travel team; Summer an All-Star team, and Fall a travel team.
