Mercy My....

The Niagara Snappers opened their 2009 season with a disappointing 2-2 record at the Millgrove Early Bird tournament over the weekend.  It was a story of 2 extremes, as Niagara mercied their opponents in both their wins with identical 7-0 scores.  On the other end of the scale, Niagara was shut out in both its losses by scores of 10-0 and 2-0.

On the mound, pick-up pitcher Bill Hillhouse of Erie, PA threw 11 innings and struck out an impressive 20 batters to compile a 1.85 ERA for the weekend.  Matt Lyon also pitched a gem of a game, throwing 6 innings of 2 hit ball to pick up the Snappers final win of the tournament.  At the plate, Niagara was led by Trevor Falk who hit .500 for the weekend with 6 RBI’s, Perry Bartley with a .571 average and 3 RBI’s, and Matt Lyon who hit .333 with 2 RBI’s.

Next action for the Snappers will be a kick off to their GHFL regular season as they travel to Waterdown on Tuesday May 12th to take on the Waterdown Target.  Game time is 9pm.  The Snappers don’t open up their home portion of the GHFL season until Thursday May 28th when they take on RHCP at 8:30pm at Lancaster Park.
