: Snapper News: Snappers Show Mercy, Advance to GHFL Finals
Thursday, September 25Snappers Show Mercy, Advance to GHFL Finals
The Niagara Snappers advanced to the GHFL finals with a convincing 8-1 win over the Hamilton Hawks. The game was shortened to 5 innings due to the mercy rule in place in GHFL play. The Snappers had everything clicking from the opening pitch, as the pitching duo of Jamie Simpson and Byron Demoe allowed only 1 hit, while striking out 11 along the way. Simpson picked up the win going 3 perfect innings without allowing a hit or walk. The offensive charge was again ignited by the hottest player on the team, Mike Bateman. Bateman went 3-3 with a home run and knocked in 3 runs. Bateman is now hitting .353 on the season with 8 homeruns and 37 RBI's. Scott Young was up to his old tricks again, slamming a 3 run home run for his 20th of the season to go along with 53 RBI's, both are tops on the club. Matt Bedrosian contributed with a RBI double as well.
The Snappers have a record of 11 wins and 1 loss since returning from the World Tournament in Wisconsin which includes an 11 game winning streak. The team is playing its best ball of the season right now and hopes to ride that momentum into the finals where they will face the Niagara Dawgs. The Dawgs feature ace pitcher Tom Berube who was a member of Niagara's pitching staff when the team went to the World Tournament.
The GHFL finals are set. Thursday October 2nd at 8pm at Ker Park in Niagara Falls.
