Snapper Shootout Tournament Results

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON

June 6, 2008

Friday results from the 5th annual Hooligan’s/Molson’s Snapper Shootout, which kicked off this evening with 16 teams competing for over $500 in prize money with the winning team taking home $2500. 12 of the competing teams are in the top 42 ISC II rankings, 2 of the teams are highly touted junior teams out of Ontario, and the host Niagara Snappers are competing this year at the ISC WT.  All these factors add up to the Shootout being one of North America’s toughest tournaments to win.

The California Lumberkings are your 2008 Snapper Shootout Champions.  Congratulatons to Dave Weldin, Brian Teeters and all of the Lumberking players for your hard work this weekend.  The Lumberkings had to suffer through the loss of Kevin Castillo due to injury on Friday night, and battled all weekend long.  It was great to see Kevin at the ballpark today to cheer on his team mates, and we would like to extend our best wishes, not only from the Niagara Snappers, but from the whole fastball community on a quick and full recovery.  Best of luck to the California Lumberkings this year.

The Niagara Snappers Fastball team wants to thanks all players, family members, and fans for making the 5th annual Shootout such a memorable event.  We had unbelievable weather all weekend, got to witness some amazing performances on and off the field (courtesy of Sam Forbes and the Bridgeport crew on Saturday night), and had alot of fun doing it.

Special thanks to California Lumberkings for travelling such a great distance to take part in not only the Shootout but also the Melissa Brideau Fundraiser fastball game on Thursday night.  A great bunch of guys off the field, and a quality ball team on it.

Also, big thanks to Al Doran and Joe Todd for coming down for the weekend.  Joe was a tremendous help and Al was on top of his reports all weekend.  We hope to continue this arrangement in the years to come in order to bring the most up to date information to the fans as quickly as possible.  We are very proud of the fact that literally minutes after games were done, they were posted on Al’s as well as Al updating games as they were in progress on his Blackberry.  Joe, Al, thanks so much from the Snappers and there is an open invite for next year.
