Welcome to NHYA Basketball!
The Basketball Program of the North Hampton Youth Association strives to provide opportunities for North Hampton children in grades K-6 to develop a love for the game. We stress fun, learning, and sportsmanship at every level of our program.
New this year - we are proud to be 2006-2007 members of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA! Look for instructional materials for our players, coaches, parents and officials all season long. For more information, check out www.nba.com/jrnba.
Our programs feature the introduction of fundamental skills and hands-on play for children in grades K-2. We do not focus on competition at this age, instead, we teach dribbling, passing, and basic shooting skills. Our grades 3-4 program features a unique 3-on-3 game played on a shorter court. This allows each child to actively participate in the game as he or she gains confidence and develops fundamental skills. Our 5-6 grade program takes the game to the next level, with "full-court" games against other teams from local towns, while still emphasizing skill development and good sportsmanship. Our season climaxes with the Annual Invitational Tournament, which brings area teams together with exciting results.
As with all NHYA programs, the Basketball Program is brought together by the efforts or our Volunteers. We encourage every parent to get involved at any level of the game, from coaching a team to operating the scoreboard to sweeping the floors. Intimidated by the thought of coaching? The Town of North Hampton's Recreation Department offers coaching clinics that will provide you with all the basics. Love the game but don't know the difference between a three-pointer and a free throw? Look for tips on this website, as well as a "Basketball Primer" we will offer to anyone interested.
