Lightning Battle Through 8 Games at Memorial Day Tournament

With solid defense and strong pitching the Lightning got off to a nice start to the 2008 season turning in 8 extremely well played games, winning four and losing four, including 5 on-run decisions, two 2-run games and one 3-run game.  With 4 back-to-back games on Sunday, the team hung together and was in every game until the last out just as they were on Saturday.  This was a great sign of things to come.  Kelsi won two on the mound while Kim and Emily each picked up a win.  Giving up only 25 runs across 8 games is a tribute to the strong defense with many sparkling plays throughout the 8 games in both the infield and outfield.

Lightning Kicks Off the 2008 Season

The 2008 season is underway for the Lightning.  To kick things off, a round-robin was held on May 18th.  Although the weather didn't cooperate, the team managed to get in one full game and part of the second game before things were called off.  Facing the Harleysville Thunderbirds, the Lightning had solid fielding to support Kim on the mound, who threw a great game.  However the Lightning ran into a strong fielding Harleysville team and were on the short end of a 2-1 score, stranding 6 runners on base.  The second game against Methacton was called after two innings (score was 0-0) due to the rain.

The season continues with a USSSA Memorial Day tournament in Quakertown on May 24-25.  The Lightning will play 4 games on Saturday, then see double elimination play on Sunday.

Lightning Win Two to Cap Off Fall Season

The Lightning finished  the Fall season with wins against the Holland Blitz (9-1) and Odysses (6-4).  Both games featured timely hitting, including a 3-run HR by Cara R. vs. the Odyssey, along with steady defense and heads up baserunning and some excellent bunts and slap hits.  With steady pitching in game 1 from Kim and Kelsi, and great relief from Julie in the second game, the Lightning put all the pieces together today.

Ladies, well done, now it's time to take a break, re-energize, and enjoy the holidays.  We'll have a team party in December, details to follow by email.
