BUZZ FINISHES FIRST IN HENRY CO 18U FALL LEAGUE
The GA Buzz has concluded their Henry Co 18U league schedule with a 7-1 record, outscoring league opponents 84-40 and getting some much needed playing time prior to entering our 4 week tournament stretch which begins this upcoming weekend.
The Buzz lost one contest by 3 runs September 28 to an outstanding Luella HS team in a split series which left both teams with a single loss. Our worst placement scenario will be a tie for first with them should they win out the remainder of their contests. Hats off to a great Luella team and the efforts of their outstanding athletes this fall.

THE BUZZ FINISHES 2ND AT THE 18U MENTIUM SEPTEMBER CLASSIC
A short-handed Buzz squad spent a long weekend at Berkmar HS and finished 2nd. Hats off to the Parkview Panthers who drubbed the Buzz and took first place in the event. They have an excellent program. Thanks for all that were able to be a part of the action and to our 2 pickups who allowed us to field a proper team throughout the event. We have 4 more league games and 2-3 more tournaments this fall...GO BUZZ!
Sunday, June 22
THE BUZZ TAKES 2ND AT TRIPLE CROWN EVENT
The Buzz placed 2nd in the Triple Crown event June 20-22, losing only to an outstanding GA Impact team and beating the 16U Heat in pool play, the 16U GA Hurricanes in elimination bracket play, and the 16U Staf Yankees in the semi-finals.
The Buzz ran out of gas (and pitching!) in game 5 and were beaten by an outstanding effort by the tournament champion GA Impact. We will look forward to one more event before wrapping up the summer season. GO BUZZ!
Sunday, June 29
THE GA BUZZ FINISHES 2ND AT THE PRO SCOUT WOOD BAT EVENT
The Buzz finished 2nd at the Pro Scout Wood Bat Event with a 4-1-1 record. After beating the Atlanta Barons in pool play, we fell short to the same team 4-2 in the championship game after winning our pool and getting the bye to the final. Hats off to the Barons for playing great baseball this weekend and fighting back from a big deficit in the semifinal to get into the championship game.
This was our last event for summer and we had a good season overall. We look forward to seeing many of you in the fall.
Sunday, June 15
THE BUZZ TAKES 1ST PLACE AT SOUTHERN STARS HS CLASSIC
The 16U GA Buzz took the Southern Stars HS Classic this weekend with a 3-1 record in round robin play and by virtue of any tiebreaker being the head-to-head vs 3-1 Jackson HS and by runs allowed being 19 in 4 contests. The Buzz plated 37 runs in tournament as well.
It was good to get 3 wins while playing flat in the 2 middle games. Playing with a limited roster and some injuries were also obstacles that were good to get past in order to win. Hats off to a great effort by Woodland HS to hand us our only loss.
The Triple Crown is coming up next week and we will look forward to the competition and time together next weekend. GO BUZZ!

THE BUZZ FINISHES FIRST AT THE 16U USTBA FALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The GA Buzz finished the fall 2007 season with a bang, taking first place at the USTBA State Championship Event at Ola High School in McDonough with a 4-1 record for the weekend.
The boys were hot at the plate, outscoring their opponents by a margin of 60-26 in 5 games. Short of the first effort against the GA Bulldogs, where Taylor Cato of the Dawgs kept us in check with a fantastic outing, the Buzz blasted the ball at the top of the order and were equally productive at the 2nd half of the order to give us great balance through the lineup.
Excellent pitching set the pace on defense, and the defensive effort was outstanding by all in all but a few innings. 13 players took part in the team effort which allowed us great flexibility in our lineup and contributed to the 1st place finish. Everyone executing their role, whatever that happened to be, was the key to the weekend's success.
In the end, the Buzz faced the GA Bulldogs for the championship event. The 7 inning (3 hour) marathon saw the Buzz down 11-2 at the end of the 2nd inning before scoring 18 unanswered runs by the bottom of the 7th. The 20-13 game was a true test of character, after the boys were called out to show some pride and fight back against an excellent opponent that had an overwhelming lead. Eric Rogers has to be complimented on his relief effort, since he held an excellent lineup in check for nearly 2 full hours while we fought our way back.
WE BEELIEVE!

HAWKS 2007 SPRING/SUMMER SEASON SUMMARY
The Hawks have concluded the spring/summer season of 2007. What an adventure this spring was.
We faced many highs and lows this year as a squad. First...the hard times. Many of the boys lost dear friends, the McCarthy twins, to whom they committed the remainder of the season in their memory and wore our black armbands in a show of support for the McCarthy family. We stayed injury free for the most part until Kirk Cross was injured in our final outing by a batted ball. Thankfully, he was able to bounce back in short time from that incident.
Together, the boys faced 18 teams, played 33 total games, won 19, lost 14, and had a winning percentage of .576. The Hawks outscored opponents by a total of 242 to 181 (with our average runs scored per game of 7+ being the most in recent years). We played in 3 tournaments and took first place in the 2nd one (Conyers) in a great weekend effort.
The Hawks had an excellent 2007 squad and had the best talent, work ethic, teamwork, sportsmanship, and general solidarity I have had the privilege to be involved with. As the team gets older, the competition has steadily improved as well as the baseball in general. It was a great thing to be involved in the new N Henry 15/16 league for that reason.
Everyone have a great summer and we will look forward to seeing you this fall for our weekend team and league. GO HAWKS!

THE 16U GA BUZZ HAS WRAPPED UP THE FALL 2007 SEASON
The 16U GA Buzz finished a 20 game 2007 fall season 11/4 with a 13-7 overall record. The Buzz team won the USTBA Fall State Championship title and finished 2nd in the 11 team Henry Co 16U league.
We thank our players, parents, fans, and opponents for another exciting season, as the Buzz continued to be blessed with the collective best of extended family and friends that anyone could want to be associated with at the ballfield. GO BUZZ!

The Buzz on the Buzz for fall and a message about our friends, the Cross'
The fall 2007 Hawks are the spring 2007 team and families with the exception of 2 of our 3 summer pickups, spring regular Austin Murphy, and our friends the Cross', who moved to North Georgia in August. I have coached with Larry and coached Kirk since the spring of 2000. That is an 8 year stretch and we want to thank Larry, Teresa, and Kirk for all of the good times, friendship, and great baseball! Kirk will be playing with us when he can. We will miss "Murph", Ryan, and Merkel as well, with all of the skill and commitment that they exhibited with the Hawks.
Larry and Kirk had suggested the team name change to the Jackets a while back (sounded good to me of course) and it was changed to "the Georgia Buzz" to spare Coach Scott and Coach Mike during college football season :) We look forward to entering the fall season with a great group of players and families sporting a new name.
The GA Buzz was unable to make any additions to the fall roster short only 4 of our 16 man roster and wanting to carry 12 players for fall baseball. Thanks to all who were interested (for your inquiries). Check back often for news and updates, including spring baseball information and possible spring 2008 roster opportunities at the end of the fall (since we may carry more players in the spring...tough age group!).

HAWKS TAKE 1ST AT THOMPSONS FIELD OF DREAMS
The Hawks went 3-1 to take first in Conyers June 9-10. Hot bats were the difference as several Hawks players were hitting it to the fence throughout the event. Leading the pack was Taylor Barron, Ryan Cochran, and Austin Murphy. The defense was steady aside from the effort in the second contest with the Newton Mudcats.
To go with a better effort at the plate, the other difference maker was the way the pitchers worked to keep us going. Kirk Cross allowed no earned runs versus the Chattahoochee Cougars in a 57 pitch complete game Saturday, Levi Haines had no earned runs through 6 innings Sunday in the win over the Mudcats, and Drew Griswell had a great effort in the 11-1 win in the championship game.

HAWKS FINISH FIRST AT RIVERDALE AABC MEM DAY SHOOTOUT
The Hawks ended the Riverdale AABC Shootout with a 4-0 record in round-robin play. This is good news as we were playing our first 60/90 event with many more coming up this summer. The boys will look forward to a Memorial Day off before starting to prepare for Cherokee and AABC District Play in June. GO HAWKS!

HAWKS CONCLUDE THE SPRING 2006 SEASON AND LOOK FORWARD TO 15U FALL BASEBALL
The Hawks played their 56th and final game of the spring on Saturday, July 8. The 56th contest concluded the spring 2006 campaign that began in January. The Hawks managed to face 34 opponents during that schedule, so the boys got a good look at area competition this year. Thanks all for a great time and another memorable season.
The Hawks will now enjoy some much deserved time off before resuming league and tournament 15U play in late August to begin the fall 2006 season, which will include a trip to N.C. in early October. Henry Co is set to accomodate 15U play as the 13/14 fields are modified to the new 60/90 standard for that age group. For interested teams, more info to come on that item in early August. GO HAWKS!

HAWKS PITCHERS THROW BACK TO BACK NO HITTER SHUTOUTS
Congrats to Micheal Venturelli and Kirk Cross on the back to back no-hitter shutouts in the last week. With the help of their teammates, Micheal blanked the Pirates 17-0 and Kirk blanked the Bulldogs 14-0. This highlights a remarkable turnaround of late on defense and at the plate. Way to toss the rock fellas! GO HAWKS
NORTH HENRY HAWKS PLACE 3RD IN MYA FALL LEAGUE
The North Henry Hawks placed 3rd overall at MYA for fall of 2005, losing only to the eventual 1st and 2nd place finishers (NH Padres and NH Bulldogs). On a positive note for North Henry Youth Baseball, the 4 NH teams playing 13/14 fall baseball at MYA finished first through fourth in the league and were collectively undefeated vs MYA teams. North Henry will certainly be the most competitive 13/14 park in the county for spring 2006 when you look beyond each parks number one team and see how they all shake out for the first 1-4 teams.
Thanks all for a fun fall season. We look forward to fielding our new roster and a new name/look for spring 2006. More news on that to come as we take a 2 month break before hitting the gym and cages in January.
CONGRATS TO ALL 13/14 N HENRY TEAMS ON YOUR POST SEASON EFFORTS
While much had been said about how the 13/14 N Henry County Select Interleague had gone for spring of 2005, no one can now doubt that N Henry teams played some of the best AABC baseball around Metro Atlanta this year. Beyond that, Henry Co Select teams had the best representation in AABC state competition this year.
Congratulations to the N Henry Bulldogs, who were the AABC 13U state runner-ups after a great season. Also, of the 7 total N Henry baseball teams in 13/14, 3 others (13u A's, 13u Padres, and 14u Sidewinders) advanced to state competition. Also, hats off the the league champion Fairview Rangers, who advanced to state competition.
Thanks all for your outstanding efforts and we will look forward to another outstanding league next season for 13/14 in N Henry County Select.
ATHLETICS FINISH 2ND AT NORTH HENRY
The Athletics finished the season in second place, bested only by the outstanding effort of the undefeated North Henry Padres. After an early season upset by another N Henry team, the boys stayed focused on taking care of what factors they could, and waited for the schedule to play out in its entirety. The refocusing effort by the players and coaches allowed them to finish second, even with 2 losses in recreational play. Congratulations on your great season boys. Hard work and hanging in there will always pay off. Be ready to work hard as we prepare for post season play. Trophies will be presented at our next N Henry game. GO A's!
A'S SET TO ADVANCE TO 14U STATE PLAY - REPRESENTING SHARPSBURG DISTRICT
The A's began the 14u district event with a bang, shutting out the 14u FV Yankees in a 8-0 contest and defeating the 14u Brown's Mill Scorpions 7-3. The great start allowed the A's to coast through to a state invitation, even with the offense going flat and mounting injuries. This week was really about toughness, as the A's had sustained several key injuries in the weeks prior. Considering we were the only 13u team in the event, and that we were the walking wounded before the first pitch of the event, this was a great team effort. I haven't mentioned many names this year, but hats off to Kirk Cross and Eric Rogers for hanging in there and basically alternating to get us through the week.
THANKS to Mr Ronnie Tankersley and the AABC for an enjoyable district program and for selecting quality sites for 14U in 2005. THANKS to the Sharpsburg tournament director and the field crew for their outstanding effort in maintaining a great playing surface. THANKS to all of the A's players and their families for making the trek to Sharpsburg each day and making this possible.
We will take some much needed time off to rest bodies and enjoy other activities during the holiday before taking a little BP and heading to the next round at Locust Grove. Great job A's!!!

AABC DISTRICT EVENT - 2004
The North Henry As AABC tournament has concluded, with the As losing a 1-0 contest to the North Henry Tigers in the Cascade district championship. This was a great event, with the As getting to play 6 games in 7 days, outscoring their opponents 51-17 on the week, and seeing some great defensive outings on the field and on the mound.
With our bats being where we needed the most work during the season, a highlight is that the As hit a combined 12 home runs in the event. The players contributing the HR total were Colin (5), DaCota, Levi (3), Willie, and Matthew (2, his first 2 ever and in the same contest in consecutive at bats!). Many other hits were spread around the field and there was a good job done by all in the pitch selection.
The As were able to pitch 6 kids on the week, with the boys giving up only 14 earned runs in 34 innings and racking up 47 Ks. Rogers, Cross, and Atkinson dominated their innings on the hill. The outfield made play after play to take away the long hits against the short fence. The infield worked very well together as they have all season.
In the end, after all of the emotion of the early Friday contest and the fatigue of playing through our bracket for 7 days, it came to an end when we had no answers to an outstanding outing by an outstanding pitcher when it was all on the line.
While no one likes to lose, all good things must come to and end, and the event was a great conclusion to a memorable season. There will be more info to come regarding our end of the year event and upcoming seasons. Thanks boys for providing us all with some great memories in the 2004 post season! GO As
ATHLETICS FINISH FALL BASEBALL AT MYA
The fall season has concluded, with the A's tying for 2nd place at MYA. Hats off to a great 14U Reds team for an outstanding fall campaign. Thanks players and parents for a fun fall season. GO A's!
POST SEASON BATTING AVERAGES
Batting averages for post season play are listed below. They do not include the Saturday championship game vs. Riverdale since your statistician washed the stats for that day in that evening's laundry! The team average for districts was an astonishing .633,led by an .889 effort by Jeremy Hooper and an .875 contribution by Eric Gailes. The team average for sub-states was an indication of how things went. It dropped to a season low of .382 during the week we were eliminated. David Dingess led the offense that week batting .833,while Jake Parker batted .714.
A special note about the bench play in tournaments. Blake Cardell batted .500 in 7 at bats and really showed great improvement in the final weeks. Ricardo had an awesome .667 in 9 at bats, also an outstanding effort. Willie Longo had an on-base average of .500 during the tournament, also a great contribution to our success in districts. Great job boys, you are all the best in North Henry!

PIRATES SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE
The Pirate's ship ran ashore Thursday as they were defeated 16-8 by the Shiloh Braves. The team never seemed to have their hearts into this tournament but that does nothing to tarnish the great season that the entire team had. The Pirates finished 1st in North Henry and 2nd in district tournaments, earned a solid reputation as a hitting team, and gave family and friends many exciting and memorable moments.
The final game featured solid pitching and spurts of good defensive play. The offense was led by David Dingess and Jake Parker, both with 3 hits on the evening. The team can now look forward to a party and trophy presentation in the near future. Boys, you've done a great job! GO PIRATES!
PIRATES GET HIGH RANKING FROM GEORGIA YOUTH BASEBALL COUNCIL
The GYBC,which is comprised of 100 independently voting coaches from around the state, ranked the Stockbridge Pirates as 3rd in the state after district tounaments saying "They flat out hit the cover off the ball".
This is a great complement to the boys for all of their hard work this year. Regardless of our post season outcome, the boys have certainly exhibited style and sportsmanship this year in earning a reputation as winners on and off the field. Click on the title line of this article to see current rankings and keep up the good work boys! GO PIRATES!
PIRATES ADVANCE TO SUB-STATE TOURNAMENT PLAY
The Pirates took second place in the North Henry district tournament and will now advance to sub-state action in Fayetteville.
The Stockbridge Padres and Cardinals also advanced to sub-state play,an indication of just how competitive North Henry has become. The boys did a great job and have accomplished so much this year. The Pirates are certainly a team to be reckoned with as we continue to improve and have fun. Also, please join us in welcoming Eric from the Indians, who we picked up for the next round of tournament play.GO PIRATES!
PIRATES DROP FIRST GAME OF SUB-STATES
The Pirates got behind early to the Old National Dodgers, tied the game at the end of regulation, and were unable to hold on in the extra inning. The Dodgers certainly had the best pitcher we had seen all year and the hitting we have become accustomed to was non-existent in the early stages of the game.
The Pirate defense played very well at times, and the team did rally to make the game very close at the end. David Dingess was 100% at the plate on the day with 2 hits and 2 walks to lead the rally. The final score was 10-9. The Pirates will now attempt to fight their way out of the losers bracket beginning Thursday night at 8 PM.
PIRATES LOSE HEARTBREAKER TO THE RIVERDALE RANGERS
The Riverdale Rangers came back from a 15-2 deficit to defeat the Pirates Friday night. This was an emotional loss for the boys, but the Pirates did what they do best as they continued to pound the ball as they have the whole tournament.
LJ Palagano led all batters with 3 hits and Kirk Cross hit his 2nd home run of the year.
There where 14 other hits and 10 walks in the effort by the offense. Kirk Cross was outstanding on the mound, holding the powerful Riverdale line up to 2 runs in 3 innings.
The next game is Saturday at 10 AM. GO PIRATES!
PIRATES DEFEAT NORTH CLAYTON A's 15-8
The Pirates won their second straight district game Thursday night against the North Clayton A's by a score of 15-8. The Pirates offense was relentless again, with 11 hits and 6 walks during the game. Jimmy Scheu led all batters by going 3 for 3 on the night. Jeremy Hooper had a big two run homer over the centerfield fence to put us up 9-8 and we never looked back.
Three pitchers combined for the win on the mound and the defense played well even when no calls seemed to go our way. The Pirates will now face the winner of the late Riverdale/Forest Park game on Friday night at 9 PM at North Henry. GO PIRATES!
PIRATES SHUT OUT BLUE JAYS 8-0
The Pirates started tournament play by shutting out the Locust Grove Blue Jays 8-0. Kirk Cross and Ricardo Perez worked together to get the shut out in one of our best outings on the mound this year. The defense played well behind them to seal the fate of the Blue Jays.
Offensively, the Pirates did what they do best by racking up 11 hits and 8 walks in three innings at the plate. Five players had 2 hits (Jake,Jimmy,David,Kirk, and Jeremy)and 3 players got on base every at bat (Jake,Eric, and Jimmy). The Pirates will work on manufacturing a few more runs since we did leave 8 men on base in 3 innings at the plate.
This win was one of our best efforts of the year boys so keep doing your best. The Pirates will now face the North Clayton A's at 6 PM Thursday night. Warm ups will begin promptly at 5 so come ready to play ball. GO PIRATES!
PIRATES SET TO HOST DISTRICT TOURNAMENTS AT COCHRAN PARK
The Pirates have elected to stay in Stockbridge and host the district tournament in North Henry. The team is set to face Locust Grove at 8 PM on Tuesday,June 27.
The level of competition in the North Henry tournament is expected to be high as several 1st place teams have elected to travel to our park. This site will be updated with scores and highlights when the games begin. GO PIRATES!

Regular Season Batting Averages-Final Calculation
Final batting averages for Pirate players (regular season)are listed below. The Pirates continued to be successful at the plate, with the team average finishing the season at its team best of .495! Please remember that this team has,in my opinion, the best batting order in the league. If you did not lead this team in batting it does not indicate you were not all outstanding when compared to the rest of the league! All but 2 players are hitting better than .386,and those two have come through at some important moments this season. You all contributed to the Pirate offense in different ways through batting, base running, and RBIs. Individual stats are as follows:
Eric Gailes .773
Jake Parker .714
Jimmy Scheu .630
David Dingess .621
Jeremy Hooper .581
Ricardo Perez .474

Willie Longo .278
Blake Cardell .105
Pirates Defeat Rockies 9-6,Finish Season Ranked First
The Stockbridge Pirates finished a great regular season by coming back from a 5 run deficit to defeat the Rockies 9-6. After their worst start this season, the Pirates found what it took to finish off the Rockies and end the regular season as North Henry's park champions with a 13-1 record.
Jake,Willie,Ricardo, and Eric were 100% at the plate and the defense, while making the most errors this year, managed to look really good at times. It wasn't pretty but the league title was well deserved by this hard working group of boys, who were rewarded immediately following the game with the first place trophies by North Henry's Director of Baseball,Doug Campbell.

Pirates Defeat McDonough Mariners 9-6
In scrimmage action against the #1 (and undefeated) McDonough Mariners, the Pirates came back to win the game after getting behind by 4 runs. The 9-6 victory was an important measurement of how the team looks going into post-season play. Although we had a slow and half-hearted start to this game, the boys once again displayed their desire to win when they fell behind and pulled out this one in the end. GO PIRATES!
Pirates Defeat Padres 4-3
The Pirates defeated the Padres 4-3 in six innings on Thursday night to improve their record to 12-1. The fight to keep their first place title did not come without a challenge as the Padres, who were thrown back into the race due to our disappointing loss to the Cardinals, brought a great team that was also hoping for the league title.
The Pirate offense was led by Eric Gailes, Willie Longo, and Ricardo Perez who had 2 hits each. The defensive effort was led by the outfield and a great game behind the plate by Willie Longo. The boys came into this game prepared to do their best and win the title. They have worked very hard this year and have demonstrated an outstanding team effort. Boys, your friends and families are proud of you all. Lets rock the Rockies! GO PIRATES!

Cardinals Defeat Pirates 8-6 In Extra Innings
After Kirk Cross pitched the Pirates out of a jam to give the Pirates the time needed to tie the game up at 5,the Cardinals managed to
rally from a 6-5 deficit and end the Pirate
winning streak at 11 by a score of 8-6. This was a valiant effort by the team and a tribute to the Pirate's refusal to lay down and take the loss without a fight. The offense was led by a 3 for 3 effort by Jimmy Scheu, batting in a new spot and standing out by missing a third inning grand slam by only a few feet. Kelsey Moore was outstanding in the defensive effort.
All eyes were on the Pirates,as teams from around the league watched with great interest in the outcome of the game. The Pirates are now tied for first with the Padres, who happen to be next on the schedule. The season will come down to that game later next week. GO PIRATES!
Pirates Defeat Indians 5-3
In our closet game of the season, the Pirates bettered their record to 11-0 by getting past the Indians 5-3 in four innings. The Indians brought one of the league's best defenses and a great line-up on offense to test the undefeated Pirates. Eric led the Pirate offense by getting on base every at bat with 2 hits and a walk. With only 3 games to go in the regular season, the Pirates look toward the Cardinals for the next contest on Saturday. GO PIRATES!!
Pirates Blast Blue Jays 21-5
The Pirates put on a batting show against the Blue Jays on Saturday with 19 hits, including 4 home runs,to take the 21-5 victory. This is the first game in which every player had at least 1 hit,an encouraging sign as we head into several key games in the next 2 weeks. The players have been exhibiting great effort in all aspects of the game and the coaches and parents are very proud of them. Every game now becomes more important as the Pirates play for home feild rights to district tournaments in June. THE STREAK CONTINUES! Go Pirates!
Pirates Dwarf Giants
The Pirates extended their streak to 9 wins by taking the Giants 10-0 in four innings.
Three players got a hit every trip to the plate (Jake,LJ,and Jimmy) and Kirk Cross homered in the 4th. Kirk and LJ pitched the shutout and the defense played very well. Its good to see the boys getting a payoff for all of their hard work. GO PIRATES!
Pirates Rock Rockies 13-9
The Pirates were back in their old form against the Rockies when the offense cranked out 13 hits in three innings. Jeremy Hooper led all batters going 3 for 3,and three other players had 2 hits. After jumping ahead 13-2, the Pirates were able to try some new things out defensively and enjoy the rest of the game.
Pirates Rally to Defeat Jaguars 9-3
In their second outing against the Jaguars this season, the Pirates rallied once again and overcame a 2-1 deficit at the end of the first inning. Although our effort at the beginning could have been more enthusiastic, the boys did respond once again when the pressure mounted. Kirk and David led the offense with 4 hits and 2 walks between them.
We saw some encouraging effort from other players that stepped up to contribute to the rally. The offense had another great game and the Pirates remain undefeated in regular season play.

Pirates Defeat Indians 13-6
The Pirates defeated the Indians 13-6 Saturday night. Jeremy and Eric led the potent Pirate offense to another big victory by hitting every at bat and exhibiting great effort in their base running. When the score got too close for comfort at 8-6,the Pirates came alive to score 5,and the game was stopped with a runner in scoring position and
the Pirates on a roll at the plate.
AMAZING FACTS: The seven run margin of victory against the Indians was our closest game so far this year. The Pirates have trailed their opponent only once in the regular season, down 1-0 to the Jaguars in the first inning before scoring 11 unanswered runs.
Pirate Math - Batting Average Calculation
A few kids had questions about how a batting average is calculated. It is your number of hits divided by your accountable at bats. You determine your accountable at bats by taking the number of trips to the plate that you have made and subtracting the number of walks, times hit by pitches, and sacrifice flys.
Jake is leading all batters after 5 games so lets look at his calculation. He has been to the plate 15 times. He has been walked 6 times (Jake seems to always pick out the best pitches),and he has been hit by 1 pitch. Take
7 unaccountable at bats from his 15 times to the plate and he has 8 accountable at bats.
He has had 7 hits out of those 8 opportunities so divide 7 by 8 and you'll see that he is hitting amazing .875 (keep it up Jake!). Making contact is not a hit, getting on base is. Strikeouts and being thrown out are the only thing that can count against you. This is the only stat we are posting because everyone has the same opportunity every game. Challenge yourself to be a part of this internal competition so that we'll be a better TEAM.
Pirates Defeat Padres 10-1

The drama was at its height when Willie and Ricardo demonstrated their skills to put out two in the Padres last at bat.
