The Buzz is back from the U of Alabama B.E.S.T. baseball wood bat event. The fellas went 0-4 on the weekend but hit well with wood and were able to salvage the weekend and have a good time off the field.
The 18U Chain Savannah team bested the Buzz 7-1 Friday night at 6p in 7 innings. 17U Chain Black beat the Buzz by a run Saturday after an error-plagued 1st inning even while the Buzz had turned out several more hits in the contest. Marist HS beat the Buzz by a run after a 5 minute delayed call reversal at the plate during a discussion about another baserunner negated the tying run on a well executed bunt and added a 2nd out with a runner at 3rd...truly bizarre. The final game was a 2 run loss to 17U Chain Gold in our last game of the event Sunday.
The Buzz will forego any travel this weekend and skip the GA Southern event, entering the Triple Crown Summer Sizzler instead in the Atlanta area.

BUZZ FINISHES FIRST-SOUTH ATLANTA SHOWCASE WARMUP
The GA Buzz had a productive weekend in the South Atlanta Showcase Warmup event at Woodland HS May 30-31, going 4-1 and taking the event in a 10 inning marathon final contest. Game 1 paired the Buzz with the Shiloh Outlaws, where Levi Haines threw 63 pitches in a 8-0 shutout to start the day.
Game 2 paired the Buzz with an outstanding Chapel Hill Reds squad whose effective pitching staff limited the Buzz to 4 runs and gave them the 6-4 win. Zach Anderson pitched well but our bats didnt do enough to get him a W in this one.
Game 3 was an elimination game with local team the McDonough Miners which was blown open after a slow start for a 8-2 win and a Buzz berth into the semi-final game with the Newton Co Lugnuts. Brice Merritt was outstanding on the mound to hold the Miners until our bats came around.
Against the Lugnuts, the Buzz plated 10 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 15-0 three inning win, giving the Buzz's young righty Dustin Ware his first shutout of the season.
The final paring was the Buzz and a fundamental Macon Tigers squad who had played great ball throughout the event. The Buzz made the call to bat continuously with their 13 man on-hand roster and slowly adjusted to some good offspeed pitching to tie the game up 4-4 in the final inning of regulation play. Tyler Padgett and Drew Griswell hit a few bombs to keep us around. It took 3 innings to finish off the game in the 10th with some good team at-bats and great relief pitching by Bobby Woodall.
The Buzz will practice and scrimmage the OTC Bearcats Thursday night at ELCA before heading to Middle GA College in Cochran for some great competition and some quality exposure for Buzz athletes. Go Buzz!

The event came to an end for the Buzz in the form of a 10-0 loss to the 17U E Cobb Rebels in the rain and mud. THE BUZZ WRAPS UP PLAY FOR FALL OF 2008
The Buzz has completed the 22 game 17U fall campaign with a 14-8 record, a .636 winning percentage, and plated 184 runs (an average of 8.36 runs per game). Pitching and D were very good and team speed was another plus.
This voyage into 18U play was an important step in readying for the summer of 2009, when most of the team will be rising SRs. The level of competition will continue to improve as well as we work toward showcasing Buzz talent for coaches at the next level next summer. The Buzz is shoring up the roster for an outstanding showcase campaign in 2009. We will look forward to being on the field together again after school baseball ends next May. GO BUZZ!
