Welcome to the 2012 18u NFWB Cobra's Website where you can find an updated Roster, Schedule/Results, and Statistics.  We are a competitive travel team that plays our home games at White Lake Lakeland High School and competes in the MATBL (18u Division) along with participating in highly competitive tournaments each weekend.

 The NFWB Cobras (26-11-2) went 6-1 at the 18u Pastime National Championships finishing tied for 5th place out of a total 100 teams.  In pool play the Cobras defeated the St. Louis Sting 1-0, Indiana Irish Gold 11-3, The Hitmen 6-2, and IBA Storm 7-1.  They would advance to the playoff round as the #4 overall seed and defeat the Cincy Stix 1-0 and Illinois Redbirds 3-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.  The Cobras run ended there at Butler University with a 5-1 defeat to the two time defending champion Ohio Warhawks. 

The 18u NFWB Cobras will finish the season at the Pastime 18u National Championships in Indianapolis.   

 NFWB went 4-1 at the 18u CABA National Championship, with the only loss coming in the championship game to the Taylor Storm 3-1.  NFWB's four victories came 5-3 over Ann Arbor Legion, 6-3 over the Blue Water Storm, 5-4 over Taylor Storm, and 7-5 over the Oakland Bulldogs. 

The Cobras won their  pool at the Kzoo Classic, defeating the Ontario Terriers 9-6, losing to the Great Lakes Bears 2-1, then defeating the East York Bulldogs twice, 11-3 and 11-1.  The Cobras lost in the quarterfinal to be Indiana Chargers 2-0 to bow out early in the playoff round on the tournament.

Game 2:  Friday July 6 at 3:45 p.m. vs. Great Lakes Bears @ Western Michigan University

Game 3:  Friday July 6 at 6:00 p.m. vs. East York Bulldogs 18u @ Portage North

Game 4: Saturday July 7 at 3:45/6:00 p.m. vs. TBA @ Schoolcraft

NFWB (13-7-2) went 5-1 at the USSSA Firecracker, finishing in 2nd place out of 20 teams.  The Cobras defeated Brooklyn Legion 12-3, W.M. Maroons 8-0, ATH Stampede 10-4, and the Mississauga Tigers 17-9 to win their pool.  The Cobras then defeated the Michigan Hawks 3-1 in the semi finals at EMU, behind a CG, 11 strikeout performance from Justin Goike.  NFWB would fall in the finals 4-0, only being able to muster one hit against the Taylor Storm in the championship game.  Sean Beyer, Nick Glowacki, Nick Linnen, Matt Glowacki, and Goike received the pitching wins for the Cobras in the tournament while Cole Lubin hit 2 HR's and Mack Ivory added one HR to the offensive attack. 

NFWB would finish the 18u Pastime WS qualifier with a record of 3 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.  On Sunday of the tournament, NFWB picked up two wins, 9-1 over Michigan Elite Black and 5-4 over the Michigan Red Sox.  Zach Lankton (Aurora (IL)) pitched a CG victory over Michigan Elite Black in game one, backed by solo HR's from Alex Taylor and Cole Lubin, each their 1st of the summer season.  In Game 2, Sean Beyer would pick up the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief (1 R, 0 ER), and Nick Linnen would get the save, recording the final two outs of the game.  The Cobras will be back in action with MATBL play Monday @ Northville HS vs. the Michigan Blue Knights at 6 p.m.  Nick Linnen will start the game on the mound for the Cobras. 

NFWB (6-4-1) got off to a good start in the Pastime Ann Arbor WS qualifier with an 8-4 win over the Motor City Hit Dogs.  Sean Beyer would pick up his first win of the season on the mound for the Cobras going 4 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, on 3 hits, and striking out 1.  Nick Glowacki would come in and pick up the save, pitching the last 3 innings, while giving up 2 R (1 ER), and striking out 5 batters.  The Cobras were led offensiviely by Cole Lubin who went 3-4, scoring two runs with 2 RBI.  Brett Ramirez was 3-3 with 3 RBI and Alex Taylor and Mack Ivory added a pair of doubles to the offensive attack as well. The Cobras next take on the Academy Stars at 6:00 p.m. Friday night at Chelsea HS JV field.

This coming weekend the Cobras will participate in the Pastime Tournaments 18u World Series Qualifier in Ann Arbor. The pool play schedule is as follows:

1) 1:30 p.m. Thursday vs. Motor City Hit Dogs (Dexter HS)

2) 6:00 p.m. Friday vs. Academy Stars (NY) (Chelsea HS JV Field)

3) 3:45 p.m. Saturday vs. A. Green (Location TBA)

NFWB (5-3-1) finished the USSSA GL Elite tournament with a 2-2 record, pairing a couple of wins in between two 3 run losses.  The Cobras started the tournament by dropping a close game to the Ann Arbor Travelers 6-3, before picking up victories over the MVP Mustangs (12-0) and the Michigan Twisters (7-4).  With a chance to play in the playoffs on Sunday on the line the Cobras couldn't get the bats going and dropped a 3-0 game to Hitters Edge who was the eventual bracket champion.  Nick Linnen (2-0) picked up a win over the MVP Mustangs by throwing 5 shutout innings while striking out 10 batters.  Nick Glowacki (Hope College) would throw a CG to pick up a win against the Michigan Twisters and get his 1st win of the summer season.  Sean Beyer (0-1) had a tough luck loss against Hitters Edge in the tourney finale, not being able to get any offensive support.  The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday at Macomb Community College against the Michigan Braves. 

The Cobras moved to (3-1-1, 2-0 MATBL) with a league victory over the Detroit Drive, 6-3 at Lakeland HS.  Zack Lankton picked up the win in relief, throwing 3 scoreless innings, while striking out 5 batters.  Noah Reiter (Heidelberg U) picked up the save striking out all 3 batters he faced in the 9th inning.  Offensively Noah Reiter, Scott Mathews, Alex Taylor, Brett Ramirez, and Nick Linnen all picked up two hits a piece to pace the offense. 

In the first tournament of the season (USSSA GL Challenge) the undermanned Cobras (players still in HS playoffs) went 1-1-1, defeating Detroit RBI 9-0, playing to a 7-7 tie vs. the Michigan Jets, and falling in defeat to the Michigan Bulls 8-4. 

The NFWB Cobras started off their 18u season with a 17-5 MATBL victory over the Michigan Bulls.  Nick Linnen (1-0) was the starting pitcher and threw 5 no-hit scoreless innnings, striking out 7 and walking 2 for the win.  Noah Reiter (Ferndale HS/Heidelberg) had two hits, including a double from the leadoff position for the Cobras, while Cole Lubin (WL Northern) also contributed two hits and reached base four times. 

Congratulations to all of our high school players who won district championships this past weekend!  Justin Goike and Justin Barnes (Saline HS), Alex Taylor and Sean Beyer (Rochester Adams), Scott Mathews (Northville), Matt and Nick Glowacki (Goodrich), and Zach Lankton (Wayne Memorial).

July 31 - The NFWB Cobras finished season with a 29-10-2 record after a 3-0-1 finish at the South Oakland A's Tournament which was cut short (no championship rounds) due to heavy rain on Thursday and Friday.  Game 1 of the tournament saw the Cobras tie the South Oakland A's Yellow 4-4.  NFWB was down 4-1 in the bottom of the 7th when Cole Lubin hit a bases clearing double with two outs to tie the game.  In game 2, the Cobras defeated the Michigan Jets 7-4 behind a 5-inning relief effort from 2012 RHP Matt Glowacki.  Glowacki gave up only 1 ER and would receive the victory.  In game 3, the Cobras defeated the 16u South Oakland A's 11-5.  2012 LHP Zach Lankton picked up the victory with 5 innings of work, while 2011 RHP/IF Nick Linnen would pick up the save coming in the 6th inning and closing out the win.  After previously twice losing to the 17u South Oakland A's Green team at the CABA National Championship, the Cobras got revenge and finished their season on a winning note, pulling out an 11-9 come from behind victory.  The Cobras were down 5-0 early, but the bats got hot in the third inning and put up 11 runs in the last four innings of the game.  2012 OF/RHP Noah Reiter picked up the win in relief and Matt Glowacki would pick up the save, recording the final 3 outs. 

July 24 - MADONNA INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!! The 17u NFWB Cobras completed a four game winning streak to close out the Madonna Invitational with a 8-0 victory over the Michigan Jets.  2012 RHP Nick Glowacki (Goodrich) pitched all 5 innings of the mercy shortened victory after pitching the final four innings against the Red Sox yesterday.  In total in the two days, Glowacki pitched 9 scoreless innings, struck out 8, walked none, and scattered 5 hits.  Offensively the Cobras put up four runs in the fourth inning and 3 more in the fifth.  2011 C Trevor Troupe (Mott CC) was 3-3 including a triple, 2011 OF Alex Kinch was 2-3, and 2011 3B Nick Tomski was 2-4 with 3 RBI to lead the Cobra offense.  The tournament victory was their second overall this season, adding to the 18u Collegiate Clash Championship they won at Adrian College.

July 23 - NFWB 17u (25-10-1) advances to the Championship of the Madonna Invitational after winning two games on Saturday.  In game 1 the Cobras defeated the Macomb County Rays 5-3 after a four run rally in the final inning highlighted by Nick Linnen's go ahead single with the bases loaded.  Linnen would also pick up his 8th victory of the summer by pitching the final out of the previous inning.  2012 OF's Will Schwartz, Noah Reiter, and Cole Lubin helped catapult the offense as well.  In game 2 the Cobras defeated the 17u Michigan Red Sox 7-2 behind the relief pitching effort of 2012 RHP Nick Glowacki (Goodrich).  Nick struck out seven and gave up only one hit in four scoreless innings to pick up the victory and send the Cobras to the championship game.  The Cobras put up seven runs in the first two innings with Nick Tomski, Alex Taylor, and Trevor Troupe reaching base twice each in the first two innings to lead the attack.  The Cobras will get a rematch with the Michigan Jets in the championship game on Sunday at Madonna University.  First pitch is 11:00 a.m.

July 22 - NFWB improved to (23-8-1) with a 12-0 victory over the Michigan Marauders in the second day of the Madonna Invitational.  The win puts the Cobras at 1-1 in the tournament after dropping the opener to the Michigan Jets on Thursday.  In the win over the Marauders, RHP Mitchell Gatt (Hillsdale) threw 4 shutout innings, striking out 5, and giving up only one hit.  At the plate, 2012 OF Will Schwartz (3 hits, 3 RBI), 2011 OF/RHP Alex Kinch (3 hits, 2 RBI), and Nick Tomski (2 hits, 2 walks, 3 runs) led the offense in the mercy shortened victory.

July 12 - NFWB lost to South Oakland A's Green 6-1 in the semi-finals of the 18u CABA National Championship.  It was a 1-1 game going into the bottom of the fifth when South Oakland strung together hit after hit and put up a 5 spot that would seal the game.  The Cobras will be back in action with a non-league game Tuesday, July 19th vs. South Oakland A's Yellow at 6 p.m. @ Lakeland High School. 

July 11 - In the quarterfinals of the 18u CABA National Championship, the #3 seed NFWB Cobras (21-8-1) defeated the #6 seed Taylor Storm for the second time in this tournament, this time coming on a 9-0 victory.  Mitchell Gatt (Hillsdale) pitched all four innings in the mercy shortened contest, striking out five, giving up two hits, and walking two.  In the first inning the Cobras got an RBI single from 2012 OF Will Schwartz, a 2 RBI triple from 2012 OF Cole Lubin, and an RBI double from 2012 IF/RHP Matt Glowacki to take a 4-0 lead.  The Cobras would add 5 runs over the next two innings, 3 coming on 2012 SS Alex Taylor's RBI's.  The Cobras await their semi-final matchup, although it is anticipated that a matchup with the South Oakland A's Green (defeated NFWB 7-4 earlier in tournament) is upcoming.

July 10 - At the 18u CABA National Championship in St. Clair Shores, MI, the 17u NFWB Cobras (20-8-1) finished pool play with a 3-1 record and will receive a bye in the single-elimination playoff starting Monday.  The Cobras are awaiting their final seed, opponent, and game time as pool play finishes at Kyte Monroe Sunday afternoon.  During pool play, the Cobras defeated the Taylor Storm in game 1, 2-1, behind a stellar pitching performance from 2011 RHP Nick Linnen.  Linnen pitched a complete game, striking out ten and only walking one.  A suicide squeeze by Nick Tomski scoring Noah Reiter in the 5th inning was the difference in the game.  In game 2, the Cobras dropped a 7-4 contest to the South Oakland A's Green team, although they did battle back from a 3-0 deficit in the 5th inning to tie it on a Nick Tomski two RBI double.  In game 3, 2012 LHP Zach Lankton would pitch a complete game shutout against the Macomb Hurricanes.  Lankton struck out 7, scattered four hits, and walked four in the shutout win.  Offensively 2012 SS Alex Taylor led the way with a 3-3 day at the plate, including 2 doubles, 3 RBI, and a walk.  Nick Tomski also added two hits, including a double, and two runs scored.  In game 4, the Cobras would dispose of the SCS Mariners 11-2.  Noah Reiter picked up the win on the mound pitching a scoreless 3 innings, while Nick Tomski closed it out with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.  2012 OF/RHP Will Schwartz, 2011 C Trevor Troupe, and 2012 IF/RHP Matt Glowacki had 3 RBI a piece in the victory.   

July 7 - Congratulations to 2012 SS Alex Taylor on being named to the All-Oakland County Baseball team for the 2011 High School Season.  Taylor batted .419 with 10 HR, 42 RBI, a .486 on-base percentage, and an .872 slugging percentage for Rochester Adams.  http://www.miprepzone.com/oakland/results.asp?ID=5179.

July 6 - NFWB (17-7-1) split a MATBL doubleheader with MSA on Wednesday, losing the first game 2-0 and winning the second game 7-4.  Mitchell Gatt (Hillsdale) got the loss in game 1 despite pitching well.  He went all 7 innings, giving up six hits, two walks, striking out 3 and allowing only 2 earned runs.  Nick Tomski would pick up the win on the mound in game 2, going 4 1/3 innnings in relief, giving up 3 hits, walking none, striking out 1, and only giving up one earned run.

July 3 - COLLEGIATE CLASH CHAMPIONS!!!  The 17u NFWB Cobras (16-6-1) won the 18u Collegiate Clash at Adrian College after defeating the Traverse City 131s 3-1 (8 innings) in a semi-final and the Tecumseh Thunder 4-0 in the championship game.  2012 RHP Matt Glowacki would start and go five innings, striking out six, while giving up just one run in the championship game.  2012 RHP Nick Glowacki would pick up the win in relief pitching a perfect final three innings, giving up no runs and striking out two.  The Cobras scored two runs in the top of the 8th to pick up the victory.  In the Championship 2011 RHP Nick Linnen threw five scoreless innings to pick up his fifth win of the year (and second of the tournament) while striking out five.  2012 RHP Nick Glowacki would pick up his 2nd save of the day pitching the final two innings and striking out three.  2011 3B Nick Tomski had two hits and an RBI, 2012 OF/P Cole Lubin two hits and two RBI, and 2012 2B Jake Rosen had an RBI on a squeeze play to lead the Cobras offensively in the championship. 

July 2 - NFWB (14-6-1) will advance to the semi-finals of the Collegiate Clash after clinching pool A on Saturday with a 12-0 win over the Guelph Royals.  The Cobras went 4-0 against teams in their pool and lost their crossover game vs. Underwood Orr 8-1 to advance to the semi-finals at Adrian College at 2 p.m. on Sunday vs. the winner of the A Green 16u vs. 131s game on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Hillsdale College.  2012 RHP Nick Glowacki picked up the win in the pool clinching victory of Guelph with 3 scoreless innings in the 4 inning mercy.  2012 OF/LHP Cole Lubin would throw a scoreless fourth inning to close out the game.  2012 SS Alex Taylor delivered the big blow in the game with a bases clearing double in the second inning while Matt Glowacki scored 3 runs, Nick Tomski and Nick Glowacki added 2 RBI each, and Nick Linnen was 2-2 with a double, RBI, and 2 runs scored in the victory. 

July 1 - In the 18u Collegiate Clash the NFWB Cobras (13-5-1) have gotten out to a 3-0 start in pool play with two wins on Thursday and one win on Friday.  On Thursday the Cobras defeated the Detroit Metro Stars 9-3 and the 18u Michigan Red Sox (Sackett) 6-3.  On Friday at Adrian College the Cobras were able to swing themselves out of an early deficit and come back to defeat the Chesterfield Raptors 11-6.  In game one, Mitchell Gatt picked up the win with 4 scoreless innings on the mound.  In game two, Matt Glowacki picked up the win going 6 2/3 innings before Nick Linnen picked up the save getting the last out.  In game 3 Nick Linnen would pick up the win, pitching the last inning and a third, striking out three of the four batters he faced.  Individual stats for the game are available by clicking on the individual games in the schedules tab.  The Cobras will be back in action for two games tomorrow, the first at 11 a.m. against Underwood Orr @ Adrian High School and the second at 3 p.m. against the Guelph Royals @ Jackson Community College.

June 24 - The 17u NFWB Cobras (10-5-1) closed out the Great Black Swamp Classic with two victories at the University of Toledo on Friday over the Michigan Bulls and Lookout Baseball, respectively.  In game 1, NFWB defeated the 18u Michigan Bulls 3-2 scoring on a passed ball in the bottom of the 7th inning.  2012 RHP Nick Glowacki (Goodrich) pitched the first six innings for the Cobras.  2011 RHP Nick Linnen would pick up the win for the Cobras pitching a 1-2-3 top of the 7th before the Cobras scored the winning run in the bottom half of the inning.  In game 2, NFWB defeated Lookout Baseball 3-1 behind a strong start by 2012 LHP Zach Lankton (Wayne Memorial) who went 4 2/3 scoreless innings before giving way to Linnen who would pitch the final 2 1/3 innings, striking out four, and earning the save in game 2. 

June 23 - NFWB (8-5-1) dropped a couple of hard fought games on day 1 of the Great Black Swamp Classic.  In game 1 the Cobras battled back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game at 4 all, before dropping a 5-4 decision to the 18u Kalamazoo Maroons.  Mitchell Gatt took the loss for the Cobras scattering 5 hits over 6 and 2/3 innings.  Walks were the deciding factor though, as Gatt walked six, four of which came around to score.  Trevor Troupe got the Cobras back in the game with a 2-run double, his 19th and 20th RBI's of the season.  In game 2, a 4-1 loss to the 18u Cincinnati Spikes, Troupe scored Noah Reiter with a double down the line in the first inning to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead.  The third inning was the Cobras demise though, as three fielding errors led to four unearned runs.  Matt Glowacki threw all six innings for the Cobras, giving up three hits, walking five, and striking out four.  NFWB will be back in action on Friday at the University of Toledo at 9 a.m. vs. the 18u Michigan Bulls and again at Elmwood HS at 3 p.m. vs. Lookout Baseball.  

June 22 - The Cobras will head to the Great Black Swamp Classic to compete against some of the best teams in the Midwest this coming weekend.  The schedule is posted on this website as well as the Black Swamp website (http://www.blackswampsports.org/schedule.html)

June 22 - Congratulations to 2012 SS Alex Taylor (Rochester Adams) and 2012 RHP/2B Matt Glowacki (Goodrich) who received All-State Honors from the MHSAA this past week.  Taylor was selected 1st Team All-State in Division 1 as an infielder.  Glowacki was selected 2nd Team All-State in Division 2 as a pitcher.  (http://www.mhsbca.org/All%20state%20teams/2011allstate.htm)

June 21 - NFWB (8-3-1) got back on the winning track with a couple of MATBL wins over MSA-Livingston at Howell HS.  The Cobras won the two games 16-1 and 14-2, respectively.  2011 C Trevor Troupe had a monster day at the plate in game 1, going 4-4 with a 2B and a 2-run HR.  Troupe ended game 1 with six RBI.  Nick Linnen picked up the win in relief, striking out four in 2 innings of work while also going 3-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored.  2012 LHP Zach Lankton also provided two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to start the game.  Nick Tomski picked up the win on the mound in game 2, going 2 innings and striking out 1.  Nine different Cobras contributed hits in the victory. 

June 18 - The Cobras (6-3-1) would finish up the USSSA Great Lakes Elite tournament with a 2-2-1 overall record.  They would tie the eventual champions, Windsor Selects (6-0-1), in a 2-2 game that went 9 innings.  Mitchell Gatt (Hillsdale College) was the story as he threw all 9 innings, giving up only six hits, one walk, one earned run, and striking out four.  The Cobras would go onto the lose the next game 7-5 to the Metro Detroit Athletics before dropping a game to the 18u A Green squad on Saturday at Madonna 13-3. 

June 16 -  On day 1 of the 18u USSSA Great Lakes Elite tournament the 17u NFWB Cobras (6-1) would pick up two wins.  In game one, NFWB defeated the 18u G.R. Flames 7-4 behind a 7-inning complete game performance by Nick Linnen.  Linnen gave up 6 hits, one walk, and struck out five in route to his first win of the season.  2012 OF's Cole Lubin and Noah Reiter had 2 hits each in the victory.  In game two, 2012 LHP Zach Lankton (2-0) picked up his second consecutive win on the season going all four innings in a mercy shortened 10-0 victory over Brooklyn Legion.  Lankton would give up only two hits and struck out three in the victory.  2011 C Trevor Troupe (undecided) was 3-3 with 3 RBI in the win while 2012 MIF/RHP Nick Glowacki (Goodrich) also was 3-3, scoring 3 times and knocking in two runs.   The Cobras are back in action Friday with two games @ Wayne State, 11:15 a.m. vs. 18u Windsor Selects and 3:45 p.m. vs. the Metro Detroit Athletics. 

June 15 - In their first MATBL game NFWB (5-1) defeated the 18u Michigan Braves 8-2 @ Lakeland HS.  2012 RHP/MIF Matt Glowacki (Goodrich) started and pitched 2 2/3 innings of one run ball.  2011 RHP/3B Nick Tomski (2-0) would collect the win though, going 2 1/3 perfect innings with 4 k's.  Offensively the Cobras were led by leadoff batter 2012 CF Noah Reiter (Ferndale), who went 2-3 with a BB and an RBI.

The schedule for the Great Lakes Elite Tournament this coming weekend has been released and is located here: (http://www.michusssa.com/files/Great_Lakes_Elite.pdf).  There is one change for the Cobras (3-1) as they will not play at 9 a.m. on Thursday at EMU.  Instead, they will play that game vs. Brooklyn Legion at 6 p.m. on Thursday @ EMU as many of the Cobras will be taking their last final exams on that morning.  NFWB also has a league game against the 18u Michigan Braves at Lakeland HS on Wednesday, June 15th at 6 p.m. 

June 12 - The 17u NFWB Cobras started off their season with a 3-1 showing in the 18u USSSA Great Lakes Challenge this weekend.  NFWB went 3-0 in pool play to earn the #2 seed going into the semi-final round.  On Saturday the Cobras defeated the Hitters Edge 7-1 and the Fenton Tigers 10-1.  Nick Tomski had two hits and Alex Taylor had a triple to lead the Cobras past the Hitters Edge while Zack Lankton's (1-0) strong pitching performance (5 IP, 1 ER) and Alex Taylor's 2 hits and 3 RBI carried the Cobras past the Tigers in Game 2.  On Sunday morning the Cobras defeated the Grand Rapids Flames 15-1 behind 4 strong innings from Cole Lubin (1-0) and offensive contributions by everyone.  2012 SS Alex Taylor (4 RBI) and 2012 OF Cole Lubin (3 RBI) were both 3-3 while 2012 2B/RHP Matt Glowacki added a first inning Grand Slam, the Cobras first home run of the season.  The semi-final game vs. the Ann Arbor Travelers found the Cobras shorthanded on pitching due to High School Regionals and would end up losing the game 14-3.  2011 catcher Trevor Troupe was a bright spot on offense against the Travelers, as he was 2-2 with a solo home run, a double, and a walk in 3 plate appearances.  2012 OF Noah Reiter also added two hits in the loss. 

June 11 - Congratulations to 2011 RHP Mitchell Gatt (Hillsdale College) as his high school team, Novi Detroit Catholic Central, won their Division 1 regional.  Gatt threw a Complete Game in the Regional Championship to defeat Birmingham Brother Rice 7-4.  Catholic Central will play Portage Central on Tuesday in a Division 1 Quarterfinal.  In other high school action including NFWB players, Goodrich lost to Mt. Pleasant 3-0 in a regional semi-final while Ferndale upset Dearborn Divine Child in a regional semi-final 5-4, before losing 3-0 to Dearborn Heights Annapolis in the regional final at Madonna University. 

June 7 - While 7 players will be competing in MHSAA regional tournament games on Saturday, the 17u NFWB Cobras season may still open in the 18u Great Lakes Challenge June 11-12 depending on player availability.  The tournament pool play schedule is out and is as follows.

  •      Game 2 (June 11) - 3:00 p.m. vs. Fenton Tigers @ Canton High School

  •      Semifinals will be played at Wayne State University and Canton HS @ 2 p.m.
  •      Championship will be played at Wayne State University @ 5 p.m.

June 4 - Congratulations to the seven Cobra players who earned District Championships this weekend!  These players included Mitchell Gatt from Novi Detroit Catholic Central, Will Schwartz and Nick Linnen from Birmingham Brother Rice, Matt and Nick Glowacki from Goodrich, and Noah Reiter and Josh Allen from Ferndale.  Good luck to all of these players in their respective regional tournaments on Sunday! 

May 31 - Junior SS Alex Taylor (Rochester Adams) continued his torrid hitting by leading Rochester Adams (13-13-1) to a 12-9 upset victory over rival Lake Orion (25-7) in a pre-district game on Tuesday at Lake Orion.  Taylor hit his 9th and 10th home runs of the season, both solo shots, to lead the Highlanders to victory.  The win advances Adams to a re-match against cross-town rival Stoney Creek in a district semi-final at Lake Orion Saturday June 4th. http://www.miprepzone.com/oakland/results.asp?ID=4949.

May 30 - Congratulations to High School Rivals and NFWB teammates Mitch Gatt (Catholic Central/Hillsdale College) and Will Schwartz (Brother Rice) for their selection to the CHSL All-League team for the 2011 baseball season.  Gatt is a senior RHP/OF for Catholic Central and Schwartz is a junior OF for Brother Rice.

May 21 - NFWB and Ferndale High School teammates Josh Allen (2011 OF) and Noah Reiter (2012 OF) led Ferndale to a 13-11 win over Niles-Brandywine in the Coldwater Invite.  Reiter went 2-3 with a walk and 3 RBI while Allen went 3-4 with 4 RBI.  Both players capped big innings for the Eagles with bases clearing opposite field triples. 

May 19 - 2012 2B/SS Jake Rosen hit a bases clearing triple driving in all 3 runs in a Cranbrook 3-2 win over Linden.  On May 17, Rosen also went 5 for 6 in a doubleheader against Orchard Lake St. Mary's.  In his last 5 games, Jake is 13 for 24 and has an on base percentage of .667.

 May 13 - 2012 SS Alex Taylor hit his 7th and 8th HR's of the Season on back to back days for Rochester Adams.  The 7th came in a 9-6 loss to Stoney Creek while the 8th HR (and 4 RBI) of the season came in a 9-8 loss to Troy Athens. 

May 12 - In a doubleheader sweep of Waterford Kettering, Walled Lake Northern 2012 C/OF Ted Lilly went 2-3, RBI, and 4 SB in game 1 for the Knights.  Teammate Cole Lubin went 2-2 in the game 2 win.

May 10 - 2012 OF/P Noah Reiter picked up the victory on the mound for Ferndale High School on Tuesday with 6 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, and 14 k's.  The 14 strikeouts were a career high for Reiter as he picked up his second pitching victory of the season up in the 10-1 win over Hazel Park. 

May 7 - 2011 RHP Mitchell Gatt (Catholic Central/Hillsdale) threw a complete victory over Brother Rice in a 4-1 victory for the Shamrocks. 

May 2 -- 2011 OF/P Josh Allen from Ferndale has been on an absolute tear the last four games for the Eagles.  On Wednesday May 2, in a crucial 3-2 walk-off win versus rival Berkley, Allen went 3-4 and had a walkoff hit to end the game in extra innings.  In the last 4 games Josh is hitting .625 (10-16) with 4 doubles, 8 runs scored, and 6 RBI.  In the first game of this streak Allen also received the pitching victory, going 4 innings and striking out 7 in a 16-5 win over Pontiac. http://www.miprepzone.com/oakland/results.asp?ID=4728

 May 1 -- Walled Lake Northern 8-10, Farmington Hills Harrison 2-1 — At Commerce, Ted Lilley went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Dalton Cozart went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Alex Chow went 2-for-2 with a double in the first game for Northern (5-6). In the second game, Brady Schafer went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Lilley had two runs and an RBI and Cole Lubin went 2-for-4 with a double for Northern (5-6).

April 29 -- 2011 Pitcher Nick Linnen (2-0) threw 4 scoreless innings against Dearborn Divine Child with 3 k's to lead Brother Rice to a 10-1 win.

April 22 --- Junior SS Alex Taylor hit his 4th HR of the season in only the 8th game for Rochester Adams (4-4, 1-2 OAA Red) as they defeated Auburn Hills Avondale 8-3. 

April 21 --- Junior Cole Lubin's 3-run HR in the 3rd inning was not enough for the Walled Lake Northern Knights (2-3) as they drop a 13-12 thriller to Birmingham Detroit Country Day.

NFWB (33-11) finished the 2010 season finishing 2nd in the 16U CABA National Championship in St. Clair Shores, MI.  The Cobras would fall in the final 7-6 to East Coast Michigan Baseball.  NFWB fell to a 7-0 deficit but would scratch one run across in the 5th and five more runs in the 6th inning to cut the deficit to one.  Noah Reiter would lead the offense reaching base 3 times and knocking in two runs.  Nick Tomski pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, surrendering only one run keeping the Cobras in the game.  To advance to the Championship, the Cobras defeated Allen Park Post 409 5-3 behind the pitching of Mitchell Gatt who would pick up his 4th win of the season with a complete game victory in which he struck out 6.  Gatt would not allow a run until the 7th inning and also led the offense reaching base three times with 2 hits and a walk.

The Cobras cruised through the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals at the 16u CABA Nat'l Championship on Tuesday @ Kyte Monroe defeating Husky Baseball 10-1 and the Allen Park Jags 6-1.  Against Husky Baseball Nick Linnen would pick up his 7th win of the season and would be helped out by 3 NFWB Home Runs, one each by Cole Lubin, Travis Rodery, and Linnen.  In the quarterfinal vs. the Jags, Tim Wilson (8-2) would once again shut down opposing hitters, striking out 8 and allowing only one run in the complete game victory which would be his team leading 8th of the season.

NFWB (30-10) finished 4-0 in pool play and received the #2 seed (out of 20 teams) in advancing to the round of 16 at the 16u CABA National Championship in St. Clair Shores, MI.  The Cobras started off Monday night with a 6-1 victory over Allen Park Post 409.  Steve Caldwell pitched 6 innings to pick up the victory for the Cobras.  In the nightcap, Nick Tomski pitched 3 innings and Cole Lubin 2 in shutting down the high powered Bloomfield Sting in a 11-3 mercy shortened victory.  Nolan Gluchowski would hit his team leading 4th home run of the season in the victory and numerous Cobras would contribute to the offensive outburst.

The Cobras (28-10) got off to a 2-0 start in the 16u CABA National Championship with a 2-0 victory over South Oakland (Lelli) and a 3-1 win over the Coughlin Cubs.  In the win over South Oakland, Timmy Wilson (Lakeland) would pick up his team high 7th win, going 6 innings, giving up 1 hit, and striking out 7.  Nick Linnen (Brother Rice)would pick up his first save of the season striking out the final two batters of the game with the bases loaded.  Wilson also collected two hits for the Cobras in the win.  Game 2 vs. Coughlin Cubs saw Linnen start and earn his 6th victory of the season going 5 innings of shutout baseball, giving up only 2 hits and striking out 5.  Nick Tomski (2-2, BB) led offensively and defensively for the Cobras with a sparkling defensive stop in the first halting a Cub rally.  Steve Caldwell also had a big base hit leading to the 1st Cobras run.  NFWB has the day off Sunday but will be back in action for their final two pool play games Monday Night at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. vs. Allen Park Post 409 and the Bloomfield Sting, respectively.  All games are held at Kyte Monroe.

Friday's game vs. Allen Park Post 409 was rained out and will be made up at 6 p.m. on July 26th (Monday night) prior to the Cobras game with the Bloomfield Sting. 

NFWB will compete in the 16u CABA National Championship in St. Clair Shores, MI, this upcoming weekend at Kyte Monroe Park.  The tournament consists of 20 teams and will begin with 4 games of pool play.  The top 16 of the 20 teams after pool play will be seeded and move onto Championship Play which will be single-loss elimination.  4 wins in the championship round will be necessary to crown a 2010 Champion.  The Cobras pool play schedule is as follows and includes 2 games under the lights:

Game 5 in Georgia saw the Cobras facing Almendares (Miami, FL) who were already 3-1 in pool play at the WWBA 16u National Championship.  NFWB (26-10) would defeat Almendares 6-4 behind the pitching of Nick Tomski (Farmington) who provided 4 innings of scoreless relief in picking up his 2nd victory of the season.  Zack Szajner (Lakeland) would go 3-3 with an RBI while Nick Linnen was 2-3 with an RBI leading the offensive charge.  The Cobras would score the go ahead run on a squeeze bunt by Noah Reiter (Ferndale), knocking in Tim Wilson who started off the 4th inning with a walk.  Reiter would add an insurance RBI on a sacrifice fly scoring Szajner in the 6th inning to give the Cobras their 6th and final run in the win.

The Cobras (25-10) got back on the winning track in Georgia with a 15-2 win over the Akadema (IN) Yankees.  Mitchell Gatt (Catholic Central) threw 5 innings to improve his record to 3-1 on the season.  Gatt would give up 4 H, 3 BB, 2 ER, while striking out 5 in the victory.  Offensively, Nick Tomski provided 2 hits and 3 RBI, Steven Caldwell added 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Nick Linnen added 2 RBI in the win.

Game 3 in East Cobb, GA, saw the Cobras (24-10) fall just short against the 16 Chattanooga (TN) Cyclones 7-6 at Southern Polytechnic University.  Mitchell Gatt led the offense reaching base 3 times while Tim Wilson was 2-3 with an RBI in the loss.   

In game 2 in East Cobb, GA, NFWB (24-9) lost to the 15u East Cobb Astros 6-3 in a well played ball game.  Tim Wilson (6-2) took the loss on the mound but pitched well for the Cobras.  The Astros struck for four runs in the 3rd inning, which proved to be the difference in the ballgame.  Wilson struck out 5 and walked none.  Offensively, the Cobras scored their first run off of a double by Mitchell Gatt, who was then knocked in by a single by Zack Szajner.  Noah Reiter (2-2, BB) led off the third inning with an infield hit and later scored when Gatt walked with the bases loaded.  With two outs and the bases still loaded Nolan Gluchowski lined a ball to the fence that was run down by the Astros left fielder.  At this point the Cobras were up 2-0.  Later in the game they added their final round when Gluchowski hit his team leading 3rd Home Run over the left field fence.  The Cobras will be back in action against the 16u Chattanooga Cyclones Wednesday @ 4:30 at Southern Poly.    

Game 1 in East Cobb, GA saw the Cobras (24-8) fall 3-2 to the MBGA Nationals (Georgia).  Cole Lubin (WL Northern) pitched well enough to win (6 IP, 2 ER) but NFWB could not get the bats going in the loss.  They now play Wednesday against the East Cobb Astros 15u team @ 2:30 p.m. at the East Cobb Complex.

Sunday in the Buckeye Elite Showcase the Cobras began Championship Play with a quarterfinal win over the Cincinnati Bats, 12-6.  Mitchell Gatt (Catholic Central) earned the win on the mound and Timmy Wilson (Lakeland) finished with 2 scoreless innings of relief.  Travis Rodery led the offense going 3-3 with 2 BB's (one intentional) and scoring 3 runs.  Mitchell Gatt added 3 hits and 2 RBI while Noah Reiter went 2-3 with 3 RBI.  In the semifinals the Cobras met the Cincy Flames and defeated them 8-4 behind scrappy pitching performances by starter Nick Linnen and relief pitchers Nick Tomski and Travis Rodery.  Tomski (2 1/3 IP, 0 R)would earn his first win of the year in relief and Rodery would collect his 4th save of the year going 1 2/3 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts.  Offensively the Cobras were led by Cole Lubin (WL Northern), Tomski (Farmington), and Zack Szajner (Lakeland) who all pitched in 2 hits a piece.  In the Championship game at Huntington Park (Columbus Clippers AAA) the Cobras were playing their 5th game in two days and would have to settle finishing 2nd out of 64 teams at the Buckeye Elite losing to the Maryland Falcons 7-4.  Reiter, Rodey, and Tomski all had 2 hits each in the championship game while Steven Caldwell, Nick Linnen, and Tomski all provided gutsy pitching performances in the loss.   

On Saturday, the Cobras won their last two pool play games, defeating the Southeast Spartans 11-0 and the Ohio Orioles(Orange) 16-8.  In game one, Timmy Wilson (6-1) threw a 5 inning complete game shutout with 3 strikeouts to earn his 6th win of the season.  In game two, Nick Linnen earned the victory on the mound in relief for the Cobras.  The Cobras overall record runs to 22-6 and they are awaiting word on if they advance to championship play Sunday.  Stay tuned to www.buckeyeelite.com for updates.

NFWB (20-6) started off pool play with an 18-1 mercy-shortened victory over Westerville North.  Steve Caldwell (3-0) pitched the complete game for the victory.  Travis Rodery had 4 hits, Noah Reiter had 3 hits, and Mitchell Gatt (3 RBI), Nick Tomski (3 RBI), Timmy Wilson (3 RBI), and Nick Linnen (2 RBI) each chipped in two hits a piece during the offensive explosion. 

The Cobras stayed undefeated in the MATBL 18u division with a 10-9 win over Bombers Baseball.  NFWB improved to 5-0 in league play and 19-6 overall with the victory.  Noah Reiter picked up the victory with 1 scoreless innning of relief.  Cole Lubin drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th with a sacrifice fly scoring pinch runner Grant Bostwick (North Farmington HS). 

The Cobras ended up finishing 2nd out of 30 teams in the 16u USSSA Firecracker Classic going 4-0 in pool play, beating the Orion Chargers 7-5 in the semi-finals, before falling 4-3 to the S.E.M. Pirates in the Championship game at the University of Michigan.  After Timmy Wilson's No-Hitter to start the tournament, the Cobras were led by solid pitching performances through the rest of the tournament.  Nick Linnen (5 IP No-Hitter, 10 k's), Steve Caldwell (Wyandotte Roosevelt), Cole Lubin (WL Northern), and Timmy Wilson (2-0 in tournament) provided victories on the road to the Championship game.  In Sunday's final, Mitchell Gatt started and threw 5 2/3 IP giving up only 1 ER and striking out 2, giving the Cobras a chance to win.  Travis Rodery provided 3 IP with 0 ER and 1 Save in the tournament as well.

No-Hitter!  Timmy Wilson (4-1)(Lakeland) led the Cobras (14-5, 4-0 MATBL) to a 7-0 victory over the 16u Michigan Red Sox by throwing a no-hitter @ Ypsilanti Lincoln HS Thursday afternoon to start off pool play in the 16u USSSA Firecracker Classic.  Wilson struck out 13, walked none, and allowed only two runners to reach base by error in the 7 inning performance.  Nolan Gluchowski (Catholic Central) led the offense, going 3-3 at the plate with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.  NFWB will be back in action for 2 games Friday @ Ypsilanti Lincoln HS starting at 3:45 p.m.

 The weekend of June 24-27 the 16u Cobras competed in the South Oakland A's 18u wood bat tournament where they came out 4-1 with a second place finish.  The Cobras finished the tournament with four straight wins, 16-3 and 7-6 over the South Oakland A's 16u (Lelli), 14-0 over the South Oakland 16u (Griffin), and 2-0 over the 18u Lakes Area Athletics.  The Cobras lone loss came against the 17u South Oakland A's on the first day of the tournament.  The Cobras pitching staff received three CG victories from Tim Wilson (Lakeland), Steven Caldwell (Wyandotte Roosevelt), and Nick Linnen (Brother Rice) respectively.  In the 5 games the offense was paced by Linnen (6-12, 8 RBI), Noah Reiter (Ferndale)(8-13, 8 R, 7 RBI), Cole Lubin (WL Northern)(8-13, 6 R, 2 RBI).  The Cobras will be back in competition Thursday, July 1st as they take on the 16u Michigan Red Sox at Ypsilanti Lincoln HS to kick off the 2010 USSSA 16u Firecracker Classic.  First pitch is 11:15 a.m.

Tuesday, June 22nd the Cobras moved to 4-0 in the MATBL 18u Division by defeating the Oakland Bulldogs 18u team 15-3.  Zack Szajner (Lakeland) paced the offense scoring 3 times and reaching base 5 times while Noah Reiter (Ferndale) picked up the victory going 2 scoreless innings on the mound.  The Cobras will be back on the diamond Thursday @ Bishop Foley High School against the 17u South Oakland A's.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

During the weekend of June 17-20th the NFWB Cobras competed in the USSSA 17u/18u Battle of the Bats tournament.  The Cobras went 3-2 in pool play before losing in the 17u Championship game 5-1 to the Ohio Warhawks 17u squad.  NFWB 16u started the tournament with a 6-3 win over 18u Brooklyn Legion on Thursday.  The Cobras moved to 2-0 in the tournament by defeating the 18u Michigan Mustangs 9-7 but in the back end of the doubleheader dropped a 4-2 decision to the 18u Lapeer Outlaws.  In game 4 of pool play the Cobras won a mercy-shortened game 9-1 over the 16u MBC Muckdogs behind the complete game pitching performance of Mitchell Gatt (Catholic Central).  Finally, in the 5th game of pool play, NFWB dropped a 11-10 heartbreaker to the 18u Michigan Hawks, who scored 2 runs in the bottom of the last inning for the victory.  The Cobras pool play record was good enough to get them into the 17u Championship game where they met the Ohio Warhawks 17u squad.  The Cobras could not get anything going offensively and would lose 5-1 and would have to settle being the Runner-up in the 17u USSSA Battle of the Bats 2010.

Tuesday, June 15th, the 16u Cobras defeated their big brother program (17u Cobras) by a score of 5-3 @ West Bloomfield High School to improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the MATBL.  Noah Reiter (Ferndale HS) led off the 9th inning with a walk and came around to score on a bunt base hit by Travis Rodery (Wyandotte Roosevelt) and a throwing error.  Rodery claimed his first victory of the season on the mound throwing a perfect final 1 2/3 innings, striking out 3 of the 5 batters he faced.

During the weekend of June 12-13 the Cobras competed in the Great Lakes Challenge (18u) and finished 2-1 in pool play and did not qualify for the playoffs.  On Saturday they defeated the Hitters Edge 2-1 behind a brilliant pitching performance from Timmy Wilson (Lakeland HS).  Wilson surrendered only 1 hit while going the distance and striking out 8, as he improves to 2-0 on the season.  In the second game the Cobras were defeated by the 18u Bulls 8-0. On Sunday morning the Cobras defeated the 18u Michigan Hawks in a mercy shortened contest, 12-3.  Nick Linnen (Brother Rice HS) picked up the win on the mound with 2 innings of scoreless relief. 

 The Cobras started off the 2010 season defeating the Michigan Red Sox 17u twice in MATBL 18u League Play during the week of June 7-11, once at Birmingham Groves HS and once at Lakeland HS.  In the first game, the Cobras scored 2 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 6-4 lead and Travis Rodery (Wyandotte Roosevelt) shut the door striking out all 3 batters he faced for the save.  In the second game, the Cobra bats came alive striking for 8 runs in the first 2 innings en route to a 12-3 Victory.  Timmy Wilson (Lakeland HS) (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Cobras and Rodery paced the offense going 2-2 with 3 RBI.
