FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the league policy on "playing time"? NFL Flag Football of Rockford is open to all children ages 5 to 14 years old – regardless of skill level. Therefore it is league policy that ALL kids play at least ten plays per half per game. The only exception to this rule would be by the parents request that their child either play less for disciplinary reasons. All players should have an opportunity to play both offense and defense each game – and at different positions during the course of the season. This policy includes the Playoffs and Super Bowl. If excessive practices are missed however, the coach may only be able to put that particular player in on offense or defense only, if he deems the player is not familiar with certain plays that have been worked on during practices.
What do I get with my $80.00 Fee? All participants will receive an Official NFL Flag Football jersey, set of flags, trophy, NFL Certificate, one banquet ticket, field trip to the Chicago Bears Training Camp, 8 games plus playoffs, well maintained safe playing fields. All parents will be given 10 - $2.00 tickets for the 2008 Chicago Bears Getaway Package. Parents may keep the tickets for themselves or sell them and keep the money!! That reduces your fee to $60.00!! NFL Flag Football of Rockford goes above and beyond of what other local and national flag football leagues offer; feel free to search the worldwide web.
Refunds: No refunds will be given out unless prior arrangements are made with the league director. Insurance and charter fees are paid immediately after registration. The NFL and insurance company will not give refunds to local leagues.
PRACTICES: Practices are held in various schools and parks. Coaches are not officially assigned practice days or locations by the league. Coaches can schedule practices on any date or times they so choose, but we recommend that all coaches work as a team on practice dates and locations. Most coaches will hold two practices per week during the season, but will not to exceed three days a week and no longer than two hours maximum at anytime during the season.
SCHEDULES: Once published in late August, schedules are FINAL and cannot be changed. Often coaches will request a simple change in a game time slot in the middle of the season after the schedules have been out. While on paper it seems like nothing major, please keep in mind that if the league accommodates one coach request, it must accommodate ALL coaches’ requests (and the league gets many each season). A simple one game change in schedule involves four teams having their game time moved – and this effects the parents of all of these teams that may have scheduled their Saturdays around an already published league schedule of ours.
RAIN & INCLEMENT WEATHER (GAMES AND PRACTICE): Just like "TACKLE” football, games will be played in the rain unless the fields are too muddy and risk damage or if lightning is present. Parents are responsible to dress their children appropriately when weather is less than optimal. Hats, jackets, and double layers of clothing are recommended if such weather is present. Also, a change of clothes might be wise as well if you are planning to stay for other games during the day. As a rule – the league web site will post details on cancellations early on Saturday mornings the league telephone (815) 987-1986 will have a message stating whether games are cancelled for that Saturday. Parents are encouraged to contact their coach not the league director. Please get at least a home phone number and cell from you coach and team mom. PLAYOFFS: All teams qualify for the playoffs. Playoffs will be single elimination format with multiple playoff rounds (games) being played the same day. There will be playoffs with the Super Bowl for each division.
JERSEYS: All participants will get to keep their official NFL Flag jersey at the conclusion of the season. When you have completed registration and have selected the desired jersey size for the participant, there will be no exchanges on sizes once received. So please make sure to order the correct size when registering your child. NFL Flag jerseys will only be made available to NFL Flag participants and are not for individual purchase. If your child’s team selects a popular NFL team and the jersey inventory is out of your child’s size, your child will be given a larger size. To better understand the jersey sizes please see the chart below.

NFL FLAG FOOTBALL OF ROCKFORD SUPPORTS BOOMER ESIASON FOUNDATION
A portion of each NFL Flag Football of Rockford registration fee is donated to the Boomer Esiason Foundation fpr Cystic Fibrosis. Cystis fibrosis is a fatal genetic disorder that affects over 30,000 Americans. This disease is marked by chronic infections, clogged airways, and digestive and reproductive problems.
In cystic fibrosis patients, problems occur because the mucus in their lungs is very thick and sticky. Instead of serving as a lubricant, it clogs the respiratory system and allows bacteria to grow within it, impairing the body's natural defenses. The thick mucus also obstructs the pancreas, preventing enzymes from reaching the intestines to digest food.
The disease, which is not contagious, usually is diagnosed in early childhood. The most reliable diagnostic test is the "sweat test," aptly named because most cystic fibrosis patients have skin that is salty to the taste. Other common symptoms of CF include chronic cough and difficulty breathing, frequent sinus and respiratory infections, nasal polyps, excessive production of mucus, recurrent pneumonia, frequent foul smelling stools and diarrhea, enlarged fingertips, and sterility in males.
The daily rigors of living with cystic fibrosis is tough both on the children afflicted with the disease and on their families. Fortunately, a combination of therapy and pharmaceuticals can help keep the symptoms under control and enhance the child's quality of life. The long-term treatment process includes: enzymes that help in digestion; high doses of antibiotics during bacterial infections; daily therapy sessions that include special exercises to loosen and promote drainage of the mucus; other types of exercise to strengthen breathing and cardiovascular function; proper nutrition and vitamins; and several inhalation treatments each day to cut through the mucus.
