Welcome
5Balls
Welcome to the official website for the Northeast Florida Girls Softball league (NFGS). We exist for the sole purpose of providing an opportunity for young ladies ages 4-18 to learn how to play softball, both as a skill sport and a team sport. We serve the Beaches and Southside communities primarily but we accept registrations from any girls that are interested.  We encourage parents to become involved in their daughters development and fun as coaches, team parents, scorekeepers, etc.  We provide a great house league season in the Spring and Fall.  Currently we  have 6U,8U,10U,12U,14U and 16U age group teams in the league. Any parent who wishes to become involved, please contact one of the league officers. I will promise you that you'll get more out of it than any effort you put into it. CONTACT THE LEAGUE AT 247-NFGS, sign the guestbook or email nfgsoftball@yahoo.com and we will get back to you ASAP.

We are here for the girls

As we embark on a new season, the coaches and league officials would like to remind everyone that we are here for the girls.   In the spirit of this, we would like to remind everyone of the following:

  • No smoking in or around the dugouts or bleachers.   We ask that you go to the parking lot to smoke
  • No alcohol at the park
  • Refrain from profanity
  • Practice good sportsmanship at all times.    We need to remember that it's not the winning or losing that is important; but exercise, life lessons and friendships that the players are gaining.
  • Support the players...on both sides of the field
  • Pick-up all trash before leaving the parks.  Gonzales and Wingate are our parks and we want to keep them clean for our players and families as well as our guests.
  • No unattended players in the dog park
  • Report any violations to a member of the Board

Most importantly - Have fun!   A successful season is not measured by wins and losses, but by the number of players that return to the game.

TSUNAMI GOLD Headed to Miami!!

The TSUNAMI Gold 95 team will be traveling south to compete in the "Rising Stars College Exposure Tournament" on October 23-25. The NFGS 14U Team will be competing with some of the best High School age teams in the country, over 100 from outside Florida. The teams in TSUNAMI's bracket are The New Jersey Breakers, Clearwater Lady Bombers, Central Florida Sting, Miami Mini Canes and The Rochester Lady Lions. They will play one game on Friday nite, three games on Saturday and one game on Sunday morning. *****UPDATE****** The NFGS TSUNAMI 95 Gold team won 4 games and tied 1 game. They beat the Clearwater Bombers 9-1, the Miami Mini Canes 7-5, the Rochester Lady Lions 6-3, the New Jersey Breakers 10-0 and tied the Central Florida Sting 2-2. These were all 18U teams that TSUNAMI played. All players were required to wear wristbands that were color coded to identify your class and the color for TSUNAMI was green, which meant that we were H.S. freshman even though only 4 of our players are freshman, the rest being 8th graders (there was no color for younger than freshmen). We were the youngest team in the tournament by far. Most of the rest of the teams(197 of them) were made made up of juniors (yellow) and seniors (pink) and many black wristbands which meant they have already committed to a school. One of the many highlights of the weekend was watching a game between the Gold Coast Hurricanes and the Shamrocks from Vienna, Virginia that the Shamrocks won. These two organizations are the only ones in the East to ever win the 18U Gold National ASA Championship. Even though our girls are too young to sign, they were exposed to many college coaches during the tournament and started to make a name for NFGS TSUNAMI. There was also a former NFGS player sighting. Mo Peters, who started playing for NFGS before her family moved was the 2nd baseman for the Vienna Shamrocks.

SAFETY FIRST!!!

It's easy to get lax on safety during the season so this is just a reminder of one aspect that has been brought to our attention: Be sure and have runners wearing their helmets when running "throw down" and "pickle" drills during practice. I'm sure there are other safety issues that need to be addressed and we will be happy to do so if they are brought to our attention.

LETS KEEP OUR PARK CLEAN!!

We can all forget a water bottle or other trash on the bleachers from time to time but we should make an effort to keep our ballpark looking sharp. If we would all just pick up one piece of trash on our way out of the park, Wingate and Gonzales Park would continue to be a great recreational area for the players and families.

We have a new website for our team  "tsunamigold95.com". We are constantly updating it with information about the team and schedules for the current season. We invite you to check it out and give us any suggestions to make it better.
