Northeast Florida Girls Softball: Welcome

Registration is now open for the SPRING 2016 Season
Welcome to the official website for the Northeast Florida Girls Softball league (NFGS). We exist for the sole purpose of providing an opportunity for young ladies ages 4-18 to learn how to play softball, both as a skill sport and a team sport. We serve the Beaches and Southside communities primarily but we accept registrations from any girls that are interested.  We encourage parents to become involved in their daughters development and fun as coaches, team parents, scorekeepers, etc.  We play 2 seasons, one in Spring and one in Fall.  Currently we  have 6U,8U,10U,12U, and 16U age group teams in the league. Any parent who wishes to become involved, please contact one of the league officers. I will promise you that you'll get more out of it than any effort you put into it. Contact the league,  sign the guestbook or email and we will get back to you ASAP.

John Baxter
In Memory of NFGS Co-Founder John Baxter

“Coach” John Joseph Baxter passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, doing what he loved: spending time on the ball field. Son of the late Gertrude Sulpice Baxter, John was born on September 21, 1947, in Washington, D.C.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Betsy Ferguson Baxter. He previously was married to Sandi Baxter, the mother of his children, Laura Shea Helbling (Howard Helbling) and John Andrew Baxter (Bahar Salimova). John also is survived by his brothers Thomas Baxter, Michael Hillman, Edward Hillman, and Frederick Albert; stepsons Brandon Payne Gill and Eric Quenton Gill; and grandchildren Nathan Howard Helbling, Heather Shea Helbling, Sean Eytan Baxter, Ronen Alon Baxter and Bryce Magnus Correa.

John grew up in Arlington, VA, and graduated from Washington & Lee High School before serving in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner’s Mate in the Vietnam War. He worked as a Police Officer in Washington, D.C., then for the Fairfax County Virginia Water Authority. John owned and operated The Sports Junction, a sporting goods store in Burke, VA, for many years.  John recently retired from the City of Jacksonville Beach after more than twenty years of service.

John’s greatest love, after family and his precious grandchildren, was softball. He is a co-founder of Northeast Florida Girls Softball (NFGS), and was widely known in the community for his love of and dedication to girls’ fast pitch softball. John cherished the many relationships made over the years through the softball community, most of whom have remained lifelong friends.

We dedicate the Fall 2014 Season to Coach John....Let's PLAY BALL

Friday, November 13

We can all forget a water bottle or other trash on the bleachers from time to time but we should make an effort to keep our ballpark looking sharp. If we would all just pick up one piece of trash on our way out of the park, Wingate and Gonzales Park would continue to be a great recreational area for the players and families.
