2009 Mojor All Stars: New West lost one run in the semi final

07/16: New Westminster lost to Trout Lake 7-6 in the semi final in a see-saw game which could have gone either way. The team put in a great effort and although they were disappointed with the result, should be proud of how well they came together as a team.

Trout Lake was leading 3:0 the 1st innings. New Westminster answered back 3 runs in the 3rd innings and took the 4:3 lead, including 2-run homer from Kirk Menezes. In the bottom 4th, Trout Lake scored 3 runs on 2 New West errors and put both players on scoring positions with one out. Their next batter hit a sharp line drive down to left. Ryan Horton, New West 3rd baseman, jumped up and grabbed the ball in the air then doubled off the runner at 3rd base. Facing the Trout Lake closer at top 6th, New West Ray Bedry hit 2-run single to left and tied the game 6:6. The game looked like going to extra inning. Trout Lake scored the winning run on New West infield error with two out at bottom 6th.

07/14: New Westminster lost to Hasting 23:0. They will play Trout Lake in the semi final on Thursday, July 16.

07/12: New Westminster lost to Hastings 7:2 in the second final game. Hastings had only 12 runners on base, comparing with 14 from New Westminster. Starting pitcher Daniel Li just needed 6 pitches to finish the first inning with three up three down. He pitched 5.2 innings, 76 pitches, and fielded the last out on closer Markus Zacharuk’s third pitch. Reece Davies, Leelan Bond, Axel Bernoe, James Northway, Markus Zacharuk, Owen Napieralski caught total 8 fly balls in the air. Leelan Bond was 3 for 3 at bat.

07/09: New Westminster beat Trout Lake 23:1 after 4 innings in the D6 All Star semifinal.  New West had 18 hits and held their opponent hitless again in the tournament. The final game is on Saturday July 11 at 10am. New West will face either Hastings or South Vancouver. Since New West beat both of them in the round robin, New West will be the champion if they win on Saturday. If New West loss, the 2nd final game will be on Sunday July 12 at 6pm.

07/08: New Westminster beat Hastings 12:11 after 8 innings of play over two days. Both Hastings 8th and 9th batter reached on bases to open the 8th inning. Daniel Li, New West 2nd baseman, caught the line drive from Hastings No1 hitter. Markus Zacharuk, New West short stop, fielded the No2 hitters ground ball up the middle, touched 2nd base then threw to Emilio Salas at 1st. What a beautiful double play !!  Reece Davies led off for New West’s half of the inning with a triple on the first pitch. Hastings intentionally walked the next two batters. With bases loaded and nobody out, Axel Bernoe worked the pitcher up to a full count. The Hastings pitcher delivered the last pitch - BALL FOUR – GAME OVER !!!  Finally the marathon game ended on the second day. Owen Napieralski earned the win with some clutch pitching.

07/07: New Westminster and Hastings tied 11:11 after 7 innings. The game was suspended due to darkness and will continue on July 8 at 6:30pm Game tied at 1 after first inning. Hastings scored 6 runs in top 2nd and took the 7:1 lead. New Westminster answered with 4 runs each in next 2 innings and led 9:7. After the scoreless top 3rd, Hasting scored another 3 runs in top 4th, re-took the lead 10:9. Once again, New westminster answered with 1 run each in next two innings. In the top 6th, New Westminster was leading 11:10 with two outs. They just missed the game winning tag out at home plate and let Hastings tie the game.
