The club started in 1971 and has garnered more than 100 Kansas Kids State medals

including more than ten individual champions. The most successful of these

wrestlers is Zach Roberson, a National Freestyle Champion, NCAA Champion,

and Three Time NCAA All-American. Zach currently coaches at Cornell University.

In each of the last three years the club has placed in the top 25 out of more than 175

teams competing in the Kansas Kids State Tournament. Although the club strives to

build champions, the primary goal is to give each child who wrestles for the club

the best opportunity to grow as an individual through the demanding rigors

of the world’s oldest sport.

The club provides three different levels of wrestling - Advanced, for experienced

wrestlers, Novice for children in Kindergarten or older in their first year of  wrestling,

and Mini-Railer, an abbreviated month long clinic for children 4-6 years of age.

The club meets each week in their facility located at 400 South Main, Newton. The

practice facility was once the auditorium for Washington Elementary School.

The club season for Advanced and Novice wrestlers starts in late November and ends

in late March. The club participates in both local and National level tournaments

throughout the season.

In addition to the normal practice schedule during the year, the club takes an annual

field trip to watch a college wrestling dual, sponsors wrestling clinics, and attends

summer wrestling camps. The club members may also participate

with the Kansas Twister’s Wrestling Club in a summer wrestling program from April

to June in which the wrestlers get an opportunity to learn the Olympic styles of

wrestling - freestyle and the Greco-Roman.
