WEATHER POLICY

Home Games – If Newton schools are closed, there will be no games at Oak Hill. An e-mail will be sent to all coaches as soon as schools are closed. It is possible that games may still be held at the Boys and Girls Club. An e-mail will be sent two hours before the first games. See the Metrowest rule below regarding the visiting team’s ability to cancel a game in Newton. If this happens, you need to immediately send me an e-mail to Ted Tye. He will inform the referee coordinator. You might want to contact the opposing coach in advance so that you know how to reach each other on Sunday. See the Metrowest website (www.metrowestbball.com) under “Contacts”.

You will need to reschedule the game with Ted after you and the opposing coach have agreed on a time and location. Typically it is best to use your practice slot if feasible. Note that referees can be difficult to get on Tuesdays and Fridays because of school games, so plan ahead. We try to schedule as many back to back games as possible, so I may need to adjust some practice gyms. If you are stuck for a gym location, let me know.

Away Games – It is up to you, not the home coach, to determine if it is safe to travel. Try to make this decision at least two hours before the game. You might want to contact the opposing coach in advance so that you know how to reach each other on Sunday. It is difficult to reschedule games, so if conditions are safe enough to travel, please try to play the game as scheduled. You will need to reschedule through the opposing coach.

Metrowest Inclement Weather Policy – (from Metrowest website)

In the event of inclement weather it is up to the coaches to determine whether or not to postpone the game. Driving safety of the visiting team must be the primary consideration. The visiting coach has the final responsibility for making this determination. In the event the game is postponed the following must be done:

Make determination as early as possible

Cancel referees for the game. Call your town coordinator to find out who to call (Note: different towns use different sources for referees.)

Reschedule contest for mutually agreeable time

Reschedule referees

Home team should cancel and reschedule gym time.

Inclement Weather
The City's emergency weather hotline number is 617-559-9020. This number will indicate whether or not schools are open for games and practices. If in doubt, please contact the individual gym coordinator or (if you can’t reach him/her) the head custodian at the school.
IMPORTANT: Click Handouts/Emails to read policies and procedures related to inclement weather.
