OVERVIEW

Newton Girls Softball is committed to the development of athletic capability and sportsmanship by focusing on teaching the fundamentals of softball in an environment that supports ALL skill sets. We foster positive self-esteem, team spirit and individual growth through personal achievement and as a team member.

Registration is open to all girls in grades 1-8 who live in Newton or attend Newton public school through the METCO program.

GAME SCHEDULE
We aim for a seven week season starting on the last Sunday of April or first Sunday in May. No games are held during Memorial Day weekend.

  • Grade 1/2: 2 games per week. Sundays @ 1:00 p.m. and Tuesdays @ 5:45 p.m.
  • Grade 3: 2 games per week. Sundays @ 1:00 p.m. and Tuesdays @ 5:45 p.m.
  • Grade 4/5: 2 games per week. Sundays @ 3:00 p.m. and Thursdays @ 5:45 p.m.
  • Grade 6/8: 2 games per week. Sundays @ 5:00 p.m. and Wednesdays @ 5:45 p.m.
  • All Grades: Saturday afternoon is reserved for any game that needs to be rescheduled due to poor weather conditions.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Practices typically start around 5:00 pm. – 6:00 p.m. and are dependent upon the work schedule of the volunteer coaches. Days are selected by the coach after consulting with their team to determine which day(s) present the fewest conflicts. All teams will practice at least once per week (grade 1/2 practices are optional). Teams in the older grades are encouraged to practice twice per week.

ATTENDANCE

Softball is a team sport and part of being a good teammate is attendance, therefore we expect players to attend at least 75% of the games and practices. If you are considering another activity that also requires your attendance on one of your game days, please be fair to yourself and others by selecting only one of activity this spring.

PLAYING FIELD LOCATIONS

NGSoftball uses local softball fields, all located in Newton. Team schedules with field names will be posted on our site just prior to the start of the current season.

Click Field Locations for driving directions to the fields.

Click Spring Schedule for a listing of game-day schedule by grade, including field locations. Current season will be posted by the last week of April. Until then the previous year's schedule will be posted. Please use as a guideline only, changes may need to be made from year to year.

CLINICS

Pre-season clinics are held on Saturday afternoons in April for all registered NGSoftball players. Players work on their skills and get a chance to meet their teammates. This has proven a popular way to get the league started when field conditions can be questionable. Players and coaches are encouraged to attend; each grade division receives one hour per Saturday.

Softball skills clinics are also run before and during the spring season based upon space, instructor availability, and player interest. Dates and location are posted on this web site. Enrolled players will receive a reminder email from the league. ALL CLINICS ARE OPTIONAL.

Beginner, intermediate, and advanced pitching clinics are held on Sunday evenings at the Newton YMCA during the fall and winter.
