We had a busy schedule for our wrestlers this past weekend.  For results from the SCMC Varstity Tournament and the PV Jr. Hornets Tourney, check out the NEWS tab.  Great photos from the SCMC have been posted by Lou Braxton.

 

Please refer to the calendar for weigh-in sites and times for this weekend.  We have SCMC JV-Novice tournament on Sunday.  We also have the Grade School Varsity and JV tournament on Saturday.

Please Note the following dates:

  • February 17th (Wednesday) will be picture day.  Pictures will be taken at the HS starting at 6pm.  Any wrestler not wrestling in the NJ States or other tounaments will be asked to hand in their singlets after pictures.  So please bring  change of clothes.
  • March 28th (Sunday) will be the team banquet.  It will be at the Andover Township fire house (near Sheridan's).  The Banquet willl be at 2pm.  The fee will be $25 per family (cash only).  Please conact Yvette Costa for question and payment.

On Saturday, March 6th, Newton Youth Football will be holding their annual Beefsteak event.  This is a great event every year with good food and excellent entertainment.  Many of our wrestlers also participate in football, so be sure to buy your tickets and support Youth Football.

NEWTON WRESTLING GENERAL INFO:

Head Coach-Trevor Braxton

The Newton Elementary Wrestling is a competitive wrestling program that strives to do everything possible to enable our wrestlers to have a safe and enjoyable experience while learning the sport of wrestling.
The Newton Elementary Wrestling program is a youth program based at Newton High School in Newton, NJ. We typically have between 40-75 boys and girls, whom live in the sending districts of Newton, Andover and Green Twp. Our team wrestles it's home matches at the Merriam Ave. School and practices are held at the Newton High School wrestling room. We wrestle in the Sussex County Mat Club League and the New Jersey Grade School League while also participating in Varsity Team, JV/Novice and Open tournaments, including the USA Wrestling NJ State Championship Tournaments. We have active and participating coaches in our program, which ensures that all wrestlers receive quality supervision and instruction. We divide the wrestlers into 3 groups based on age and experience. The Varsity and JV are grades 2nd-8th and the Clinic is grades K-1st.

The program is funded by the Newton Board of Education which allows us to have no registration fee. We are also supported by the sending Districts of Newton, Andover and Green Township and the Newton Elementary Wrestling Booster Club.

Please note that the Tournaments added to the News Page are meant to be helpful for those that wish to attend and are not necessarily events sponsored, supported, or coached by the Newton Elementary Wrestling program. Only Events that are on the schedule pages are official Newton Elementary Wrestling events. If coaches will be at tournaments, to help coach Newton wrestlers, it will be noted clearly in the tournament announcement.
