Newton East Little League: Summer Program

Paper registrations are available for those wishing to be placed on the waiting list. In order to keep roster sizes reasonable, players will be assigned to teams on a space available only basis. To obtain a paper registration, please email info@newtoneastll.org.
Team assignments have been announced. Games begin on Monday, July 6. If you have not heard your team assignment, please contact Jodi Detjen or Kevin Slayne.

Summer Program Information
N.E.L.L. is committed to providing opportunities for kids to continue enjoying the game and developing their baseball skills throughout the summer season.

The Newton Summer Baseball League will operate two summer intramural programs. These are instructional leagues with relaxed competition. All kids who wish to participate in this will be eligible. In late June there will be skills evaluation sessions to assure that the teams are as balanced as possible. Cost of both programs is $95.

The 7, 8 and 9 year old League is an all-Newton program directed by the Newton West Little League. The program is for players who have played farm or minor league baseball in the spring and who would like to get more experience with players pitching under relaxed competition and rules (generally AA Level). Ten-year-old players may participate if they are new to baseball or have been recommended by their Spring coach to play in this league. This league is for any NON-TRAVEL league player who wishes to continue playing through July and into the middle of August (for 2009, the league runs from July 6 through August 14). This is a relaxed league for improving and having fun. As such we have no playoffs, just baseball. All games are on weeknights (Mondays - Thursdays only). Practicing is at the coaches discretion.
Divisions: For 2009, there will be 2 divisions for this summer intramural program: (1) a "lower" division for younger players that is coach-pitch; and (2) an "upper" division that is a more competitive, kid-pitch league. Typically, all 7 year olds will be placed in the "lower" division and all 9 year olds will be placed in the "upper" division. 8 year olds are placed based on performance during the player evaluations or their spring coach's written evaluation.
Player Evaluations: In order to form balanced teams, we will hold player evaluations at Franklin School on Monday, June 22 (rain date: Tuesday, June 23). Times are staggered, with 7-year-olds at 5:45 PM, 8-year-olds at 6:30, and 9-year-olds at 7:00.
Registration is online this year at www.newtonwestll.org. Please realize that because we try to balance the teams as best possible we cannot generally honor requests for kids to be together. If you have any questions please refer to our FAQ or send an email to info@newtonwestll.org. Travel Players: If a child registers and later gets selected to a travel team, we will apply the registration fee to the travel team. You will not lose any money. We will make all notifications via email. Be sure you provide a valid email address when you register and notify us if it changes. Do to abuses of the system, we cannot place any child on a team until the child is registered . No exceptions will be made.

10-12 League – This is an all-Newton program directed by Newton East Little League. Teams consist of Major Division players from all 5 of the Newton Little Leagues, who may or may not be playing on a Summer Travel or Williamsport team. Minor Division (AAA) players who are likely to be eligible for the Major Division next spring are also included in this program. Some 9-year-olds may also participate if they are likely to be Major Division eligible and at the commissioners discretion. Games are played weekday (Monday - Thursday) nights only from July 6 through August 14.

A player evaluation will be held on Saturday, June 20, 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Jay Gordon Field off of Homer St.(see "Fields" in the left margin for directions). Summer Travel Teams: In addition to the 2 intramural leagues above, Newton East has 2 summer travel teams (12 and under; and 11 and under) competing in the Surburban Youth Baseball League (SYBL) this year. Games are typically played on weeknights against teams from surrounding towns. There may be some games on weekends as well as some tournaments on weekends. Tryouts will be held on the same day as summer evaluations. The fee is the same as the non-travel program and those that do not make a travel team will be placed on one of the non-travel teams.
SYBL players must have played in the Spring 2009 Newton East Majors or AAA divisions or play in another Newton Little League which doesn't have a summer SYBL team.
